Just that! I had such a great run and now I seem to have hit a wall. Do you use the same one every time? Do you ever use pen and paper alongside? It's cheeky I know I'm being unreasonable I'm also just curious!

Raise. Then if none of the letters match, bound.

ClockingOffers · 26/01/2025 14:55

I use AISLE then YOUTH as my first two words a lot of the time although occasionally I'll try a new random word.

Attictroll · 26/01/2025 14:55

Urine
Youth
Ready

ThePoshUns · 26/01/2025 14:57

Arise then cloud.
Or crane then pilot.

Elmo230885 · 26/01/2025 14:58

TEACH and PIOUS are my go to starters, either or both depending on if there are any hits on the first go. Both cover all vowels and some common constonants.

Cloud.

IfOnlyYouWouldListen · 26/01/2025 15:01

I used stare until it came up a few weeks ago. Now using steal. I used to use fault, but again that came up so I chose a new one (and not sure that was particularly good anyway)

Wakeywake · 26/01/2025 15:01

PLEAT

Skandar · 26/01/2025 15:02

I always go NOISE and then CHART - can usually get it in three with those two words, if stuck, I go FLUMP which then usually elimates or gives me enough to get it in 4.

Iudncuewbccgrcb · 26/01/2025 15:02

CANOE and then FRUIT if needed

LawrenceSMarlowforPresident · 26/01/2025 15:03

Lately I’ve been using SLATE. Before that it was STARE.

I also play Wordle in my second language, and there I start with either opera and ocean (in that language). It’s an easier game because only nouns are used, unlike in the English version.

PokerFriedDips · 26/01/2025 15:04

I have 3 start words that encompass the 15 most-common letters with no repetition and almost always get the word on my first actual guess which is line #4 because I usually have at least 4 known letters by then.

I also have a 2-word startoff that just has all vowels and the 5 most common consonants and then I tend to get the word on line 3 about 30% of the time

Which letters? The ones that only get 1 point in scrabble, plus a few of the 2-pointers.

Createausername1970 · 26/01/2025 15:05

I use the same two to start which give me the 4 main vowels, plus the most used letters.

If that isn't enough to get me going, then the third word uses the U and 4 more unused letters.

Usually by that point I have enough to go on, but if not I have a reserve word that uses a few of the less popular letters and has proved useful in the past.

Danceswithweasels · 26/01/2025 15:07

Trash then if it scores 0 melon

Arran2024 · 26/01/2025 15:08

Btw I would recommend the other free NYT word games, especially Spelling Bee and Letterbox.

TheBoysAndTheBallet · 26/01/2025 15:09

It's different every day, I go with the first word I can think of with at least two vowels.

potatoes4all · 26/01/2025 15:10

IRATE, followed by BOUND if there are no matching letters.

7ft1garysson · 26/01/2025 15:12

Heart then pious. Very rare to not get anything from those.

have you ever played duotrigordle?! 32 boards at once, very exciting

WeWillGetThereInTheEnd · 26/01/2025 15:12

We use

Quest

It covers some common letters, and gets qu less common out of the way!

TabloidFootprints · 26/01/2025 15:12

ALIEN followed by SHOUT if no matching letters.
DS uses QUEUE as he says it is too easy and deliberately tries to make it harder.
I use PUPPY for Dont Wordle but I’m not very good at it so I wonder if a different word would be better.

PeterPipper · 26/01/2025 15:13

Audio then if no letters correct, rents.

What is your reserve word can I ask?

sanityisamyth · 26/01/2025 15:14

Horse.

Got 2 vowel, R and S which are common letters and potentially the SH digraph.

ItGhoul · 26/01/2025 15:14

PENIS

Which was especially useful a while back when the answer was SPINE.
