Thought I would start a (hopefully) interesting thread on what fears people have that aren't your 'typical' fears most people get! So forget the dark, spiders and heights!

I have typical fears most people do, for example my biggest one would be bees/wasps but that's quite common, but this one is a strange one (or so other people say!)

I live in Bedfordshire and there are two hangers, called the cardington hangers/sheds that are used for various things, including film sets, and they absolutely terrify me. Google if you're interested, but you'll probably think what's the deal? I can't even explain it myself but having spoken to my partner I think it must be the size of them? I also don't like that they are so isolated and where I live, I'll drive round the corner and I won't see them until they are in my face and it honestly makes my heart race. I avoid them as much as I can. The worst time was when it was foggy and I couldn't see them when I normally would and I felt sick because I knew they were there but couldn't see them. Maybe I need help😂
So what's yours?

AI generated "art". Makes my blood run cold.

and all those AI generated vidoes on Instagram, the one that freaked me out the most was a video of a fashion run way show where all the models were dead rock stars and pop singers. It was a sinister and creepy parade of Freddie Mercury, Bob Marley, Bowie, etc. There are also some horrible ones of cats in sort of human form going through various trials and tribulations that just chill me. They get millions of views!

Nerdynerdynerd · 24/01/2025 23:50

Not being able to see anything in the distance. Was once skiing and couldn't see anything except the snow. No trees, cabins, rocks, nothing but white. Scared the shit out of me.

Really long corridors with no end in sight also creep me out.

Bridges

ghostyslovesheets · 24/01/2025 23:52

Large metal structures in water - like the huge chains at the pier Head or oil rigs - ewww even writing that made me a bit sick in my mouth.

other than that only spiders bother me

Fish. I will scream and run away even if on tv. Have been known to cry.

I’ve never met someone else who’s afraid. So hard to avoid them

Tram tracks - getting foot stuck in one and being run over by a tram
snakes
lifts that are old and creaky and especially if they have a metal gate on them
eels

Bumcake · 24/01/2025 23:54

Giant statues. They make me feel dizzy, and my ears ring.

Shaun Hutson or something like that. I read it as a teenager. It stayed with me. I salt the bastards, my mum taught me to do that. Odd mother daughter bonding time but hey ho.

Oh yes, that was it 👏 It stayed with me too, and I can never get over the awful graphic descriptions of slugs crawling onto people's faces, into their mouths to eat them from the inside out! It was bloody terrifying 😳 I'd not even dare read it now, that is how dreadful it was - no wonder my poor teenage brain was traumatised! 😅

What things are you scared of that seems ridiculous to other people?
42isthemeaning · 24/01/2025 23:54

The Open University logo. It scared me as a child and it still scares me now.

neveradullmoment99 · 24/01/2025 23:56

black birds

Horses7 · 24/01/2025 23:56

Oh yes and driving behind anything that looks like it’s load will slip off and impale me - H actually laughs at this one but will move lanes or overtake. I never drive behind a dodgy load 🤣

maras2 · 24/01/2025 23:57

Empty swimming pools.
I've only seen one IRL but even pictures of them make me feel quite ill, Sad

The sea

calatheamama · 24/01/2025 23:57

The dark when I'm sleeping alone (I know!), touching my eyeballs (no contact lenses for me), touching my belly button (weird, feels like my finger will go straight through my insides), spiders of course

The music was set me on edge too.

Oh it'd be a cold day in hell before I'd read it again!

I seem to recall someone opening a door and a wall of slugs falling out. I'm just hoping that doesn't feed into my dreams tonight.

I'm also scared of them and never knew anyone else who does

😖I can't look at them!

blondeboffin · 25/01/2025 00:02

That's really interesting - maybe you have megalophobia? I did Google them and I see what you mean; there is a creepiness about them

weareallcats · 25/01/2025 00:04

Fgfgfg · 24/01/2025 23:38

Me too. I've mentioned this on a similar thread in the past. One thing that really bothered me was the old Sanex advert with all the swaying bodies. It was very 'holey' and made me incredibly anxious.

God yes, me too. The worst for me is the spores on ferns (don’t look if you haven’t already seen) - the first time I saw them I had a huge reaction, virtually a panic attack. They make me go cold and feel sick. Also lotus seed pods. I don’t mind things like honeycomb though - it really depends and there no rhyme or reason to it.

After watching Final Destination you’d never catch me driving behind a lorry full of logs again.

rewilded · 25/01/2025 00:08

I know someone who died on a motorway from a lorry with steel rods that came off so yes it does happen.

AelinAG · 25/01/2025 00:09

Megalodon. I know they’re extinct but what if they aren’t? The recent research re dating their extinction to overlap with early humans sent me over the edge. Our ancestors looked out into the ocean and saw a shark the size of a Boeing 747.

Oddly enough livvyatans don’t have the same fear for me

CockSpadget · 25/01/2025 00:12

deep sea diving, I’ve never done it but I can’t even watch it on tv, the never ending blackness ahead. Horrifying.
