Cinema Screening for Dogs

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/01/2025 23:20

My local cinema is having cinema screenings where you can take your dog along. So far they have had Wallace and Gromit and The Lion King.

AIBU or has the world gone mad?

I think it's madness. Our local cinema allows dogs at any screening but I've yet to see one. There's no way I'm taking our dog.

I know people with allergies who can't go to the cinema if there are dogs there

HoraceCope · 13/01/2025 07:53

what a ridiculous idea
do they sit on the floor
do they sit on your lap?
they wont relax, you will be in and out,
they will bark and fight over any food

NeedToChangeName · 13/01/2025 07:57

Terrible idea

but cinemas will stop offering this once dogs have been peeing in the dark

I imagine much like a mother and baby screening, you dont go if you dont have a baby

WhatInFreshHell · 13/01/2025 08:01

Dogs don't need to go to the cinema. Absolutely batshit.

VoodooRajin · 13/01/2025 08:02

Peeing or worse!

I think my old boy would have been more interested in the popcorn than the film although the 4DX screenings might have been fun for him. He was rather partial to Spotify’s dog play list though.

Dog play list? 👀

How did I not know about this!

I have just checked and it seems to be all calm and relaxing music. What an amazing heads up, thank you.

Where I live we have the most incredible storms, thunder and lightning that cracks so much it can make me jump sometimes. And my older boy gets pretty anxious.

So going to download some of these.

Iheartmysmart · 13/01/2025 08:34

@isthismylifenow Glad to be of help. My old boy was petrified of fireworks and thunder as well and these playlist used to calm him down. I hope they work for you too.

Goldengirl123 · 13/01/2025 08:37

The world has must definitely gone mad!!!

NormasArse · 13/01/2025 08:39

I parked next to a woman at a drive in cinema in Manchester. She had her dog and a duvet in the car, and ordered a pizza delivery to her window.

I was extremely impressed by her resourcefulness 😁.

In a cinema though? Mine would be jittery because there would be other dogs there that they’d want to say hello to.

Ginmonkeyagain · 13/01/2025 08:44

Euuhhh. Dog smell in the cinema. The reek of popcorn is bad enough.

IsawwhatIsaw · 13/01/2025 08:45

They will not be able to clean the cinema properly, there will be hair / dander / saliva left. Unpleasant for people with allergies, who could get allergic reactions and might now decide this is yet another place they will need to avoid .

PullTheBricksDown · 13/01/2025 08:46

Do you have to book a seat for the dog(s) as well as the human(s)? Or is it buy a ticket and the dog is then expected to sit on the floor? What if they're in the middle of the row and it's a small dog so they can't see? 🤔

I don’t mind dogs at all, but this seems like a bit of a gimmick targeted at people who think dogs are the best things on earth.

I’ve never asked one directly but I think our furry pals would be far happier running about in a park or on a beach with their tongue hanging out rather than sitting in the dark for 2 hours watching 101 Dalmatian's.

Absolutely, not to mention how loud and ear damaging the cinema theatres are.

I love her! What a fabulous idea…

Ylvamoon · 13/01/2025 08:56

I love my dogs but I doubt they will sit through 90- 120 minutes of film with all the other dogs there... 🌭🍿🍦

and it creates a particular problem for people with allergies because I’m not sure that cleaning will be so thorough.

ClareBlue · 13/01/2025 09:01

Can goats that identify as dogs go?

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/01/2025 23:26

Also DS wouldn't be able to go in that cinema without having an allergy attack even a week after the showing! I am sure he's not alone

Do you not take him to cafes? the pub? anywhere else that allows dogs?

I think we know it won’t.
I like dogs, but they make me ill. Not just but of sneezing, but breathing issues if bad.

Well, no. People aren't allergic to babies as far as I know.
Although, I agree that people without babies wouldn't go to a mother and baby screening.
