Cinema Screening for Dogs

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/01/2025 23:20

My local cinema is having cinema screenings where you can take your dog along. So far they have had Wallace and Gromit and The Lion King.

AIBU or has the world gone mad?

But most places allow assistance dogs? Including all public transport and shops...

What don't you understand about some people being so allergic to dogs that they can't be in the same room as one?

Don't be so obtuse. Yes, it will mean that @HighHeelsOnCobblestones and her son would have to leave.

So? We have to leave or not go inside.

However, it’s been over a decade since my son developed this allergy. In all that time, we have never had to leave or not go inside somewhere due to an assistance dog being present. There are simply far fewer of them. Assistance dogs are wonderful for those they help and not a problem for us.

vivainsomnia · 13/01/2025 11:39

I take my dog to many places they e joyed. A cinema? Certainly not!

VoodooRajin · 13/01/2025 12:17

I wouldn't do it, but think its a great idea

This Is from 2018 when Picturehouse had been doing dog friendly screenings for a year so they’ve been going on a while

What fresh kind of hell is this? So sick of this trend of people taking their dogs everywhere.

BlackChunkyBoots · 13/01/2025 13:42

I think it's a lovely idea. I don't have a dog (though wish I did) and think I'd rather take him with me to the cinema with me rather being bored alone at home. Also, if you are allergic to dogs, you can go to a different cinema, though I think allergies to dogs isn't to common. Or if you just don't like dogs, don't go to a doggy screening.

Obviously badly behaved doggies should not be allowed admission.

We cinemas are businesses and if this is earning them money, good for them.

This.
Two in my town have closed in the past year. Cinema is a dying industry (no thanks to Covid and streaming), so anything that gets people through the doors is a bonus.

Agreed. Same is true for pubs, cafes, local shopping centres. Businesses are going to try new things to stay afloat.

Some people on this thread are fuming about one cinema in a location unknown to them.

VandalsTookTheHandlez · 13/01/2025 14:11

All of this peeing up the back of seats and stinking animals. Do some of you lot not train or bathe your dogs then?

Cant think of a scenario where mine would pee up a seat to mark territory indoors, he knows to go outside. All my friends animals are the same too.

Seems to be a MNet world thing where dogs smell really badly and pee and shit everywhere.

Not only that, if someone hates dogs that much, then it is bonkers to go to a dog friendly screening and then complain about it.

There was a thread on here about a lido that allows dogs at the end of the season (before the lido is drained and cleaned). The amount of froth from people was unbelievable. You were not allowed to go if you didn't have a dog with you, yet people who hate dogs were saying how vile it was and unfair on them.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 13/01/2025 14:20

We have a house cat and a house rabbit. We took them both on holiday at Christmas to a rented cottage. I wonder if I can start taking them to the cinema? Our cat probably would not settle but our rabbit loves watching TV with us. So maybe worth a try?

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 13/01/2025 14:27

This is a photo of our rabbit watching TV with us. Does anyone think he would enjoy the cinema?!

Oh goodness @LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood that is one cute rabbit. I think he would very much enjoy the cinema.

Oh, he is adorable!
But I think he would get eaten in a dog friendly screening.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 13/01/2025 14:31

Thank you. I am being a bit silly. I know I can’t really take him. But I’m convinced he would love it. So long as the film is not too loud. His name is Sydney and he is 4 years old. He is really bright. We adore him.

I remember. Lots of wailing about things not being catered to their exact needs whilst simultaneously calling dog owners entitled.

Not Watership Down either! My last dog loved rabbits, our friend has two and a tortoise my dog used to play with.

OnceMoreWithAttitude · 13/01/2025 14:42

LOL at the number of pp who think dog friendly screenings are for dogs to watch films.

Do you imagine baby-friendly screenings are for babies? Or for people on maternity leave to be able to take babies into films they want to see?

Our local Picturehouse advertised a few dog friendly screenings but seems to have dropped the idea.

Good. I don’t want to settle into a cinema seat covered in dog hair and dog smell. (Many owners will of course allow their dog onto the seat)

I saw a ferret on a lead on the tube the other day. Imagine the pandemonium if they took that into a cinema full of terriers.

Arlanymor · 13/01/2025 14:45

This reminds me of The League of Gentlemen and Kenny Harris...

margegunderson · 13/01/2025 14:54

I went to one of these because it was the only way to see the film. Not a doggy person but the beasts were probably better behaved than the usual popcorn scoffing humans

CrushingOnRubies · 13/01/2025 14:58

My dog and I would love this. Rarely go to the cinema because of how long it is and leaving dog for so long. My dog loves watching animals on tv, doesn't make a noise just mesmerised by animals on tv.

Also cinemas like every other luxury past time are struggling due to cost of living. So good on them trying to find new ways to draw in the crowds.

I do realise this mumsnet where dogs should only be walked local area and otherwise kept at home at all times.

WiddlinDiddlin · 13/01/2025 15:01

I am not sure what baffles me more here.

The fact people really cannot grasp that cinemas are doing this in a desperate bid to stay afloat, and cinemas are indeed closing all over the place now you can stream films and watch them at home very soon after release in most cases...

Or that people think cinemas without dogs in them are super clean - although the carpets and fabrics are designed to be resistant and easy to get muck off, anyone who has ever worked in one will tell you theres far worse substances than anything a dog could produce, mashed into those fabrics on a daily basis!

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/01/2025 15:03

Not sure. Can imagine a few problems.

Our cats definitely watch tv, though.

Dog owners are a pita and won't be happy until the entire country is covered in dog shit, dog piss and dog hair, to match their own scruffy homes.

I voted against the idea
But what a truly unpleasant person you are
