Cinema Screening for Dogs

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/01/2025 23:20

My local cinema is having cinema screenings where you can take your dog along. So far they have had Wallace and Gromit and The Lion King.

AIBU or has the world gone mad?

but it is a public place and so people may have dog hairs on their clothes
so can never be totally clear

ChristmasFluff · 13/01/2025 09:13

Our local cinema is dog-friendly in one area. It's advertised as such, so people can choose to avoid it if they have allergies, or take their medication and sit in the 'no dogs allowed' area (which is what I do).

This is probably less problematic than specific doggy screenings, but cinemas do what works for them, and what is most financially viable.

Can goats that identify as dogs go?

Right? Where will it end.

What about a small horse?

Maybe even your parrot?

It seems to have become so out of hand, next there will be claims of discrimination towards other pets.

Do you not take him to cafes? the pub? anywhere else that allows dogs?

That isn't a valid argument.
Other places that allow dogs are usually easier to clean because there are hard surfaces. There would be fewer dogs in those places as well.

And yes, some people do have to avoid anywhere that is dog friendly.

I don't have any allergies, but DD does (investigations ongoing) and the attitude that some people have regarding other people's allergies is disgusting and thoughtless. People don't chose to be allergic to dogs.

dottydodah · 13/01/2025 09:27

Seems to be more and more of a thing now! We went shopping before Christmas.parked in a multi storey car park .There was a beautiful Dalmatian waiting for the lift .He had "enjoyed" a walk round the shops. got in lift with everyone .very good boy .I think he would have preferred the park!

Choccyscofffy · 13/01/2025 09:28

Are dogs allowed to sit on the seats? That would be disgustingly unhygienic, not to mention transfer of fleas.

What if it does a shit? Gross.

HoraceCope · 13/01/2025 09:29

buses dont have hard surfaces or trains where people can freely take their dogs

Lambington · 13/01/2025 09:32

Hard to see how the cinema makes a profit after paying for a professional deep clean of the theatre after each screening.

Why would dogs want to be in a dark loud unfamiliar room with loads of other dogs and no where to pee for 2 hours? Dogs are not people and it isn’t always in their best interest to treat them like humans.

It's a barking mad idea.

Kendodd · 13/01/2025 09:36

We cinemas are businesses and if this is earning them money, good for them.

They won’t will they?
i understand its all about the money…..but as someone said, no one chooses to be allergic and it’s becoming increasingly hard to find places to go. I guess the upside is I'm meeting friends outdoors and walking more…

True, so someone very allergic to dogs would have to avoid travelling in an enclosed space with a dog.

Back in the day when smoking was still allowed in trains there used to be separate carriages for smokers. I don't see why they can't do this for dogs now.

CautiousLurker01 · 13/01/2025 09:40

Am a dog lover/owner… but, no. Leave the pups at home!

It doesn’t (from the film selection) look as though it’s targeted for lonely/aging singletons who don’t like to leave their dogs at home for a few hours, does it? And I’m not sure that the sound system/volume is good for dogs either.

Unlike an alternative thread about excluding dogs from a group walk, I do think it is perfectly reasonable to exclude them here, especially as people who have allergies to dogs would be unlikely to assume/expect there was a risk of exposure in a cinema?

No, snuggle with your dogs in front of the telly or go to the cinema with a human friend…

NameyMcNameyson · 13/01/2025 09:43

YANBU. Dogs should not be in the cinema. Gross.

My son is allergic to dogs. The last time he was in a room with a dog resulted in severe breathing difficulties requiring an ambulance. So no, we do not go to anywhere that allows dogs inside.

GasPanic · 13/01/2025 10:19

My dog would never switch the mobile off long enough for a full movie screening.

Ballyhoballyhoo · 13/01/2025 10:39

World has gone mad! if you can’t leave you dog alone for the duration of a film you have a problem!!!!

But most places allow assistance dogs? Including all public transport and shops...

Sophiasguitar · 13/01/2025 10:46

My dog wouldn’t cope but I don’t begrudge people things just because they don’t work for me.

MintsPi · 13/01/2025 10:58

Why do people always bang on about assistance dogs re allergies? People have the legal right to have assistance dogs so there isn't anything people with allergies can do to stop that (pretty sure they wouldn't want disabled people to lose those rights).

The vast majority of dogs are not assistant dogs. I pass 30 dogs a week easily while walking the school run. I can count on one hand the amount of assistant dogs I see in a year. They are just not comparable.

Neighbours87 · 13/01/2025 11:03

It’s seems like it’s more for the dog owners than the actual dogs.

Ursulla · 13/01/2025 11:07

Dog owners are a pita and won't be happy until the entire country is covered in dog shit, dog piss and dog hair, to match their own scruffy homes.

sleepwouldbenice · 13/01/2025 11:08

Nope! I can relax without my dog!

The only limited place I can see it might work would be small cinemas in rural tourist areas eg lake district where many dog walkers might go. Something for a rainy day.

But in general still no!

caramac04 · 13/01/2025 11:12

I bloody love dogs but would not take mine to the cinema. They’re not lap dogs and would get nothing whatsoever from it. It would spoil the film for me having my attention on the dogs. I wouldn’t go to a dog screening without the dogs.
My dogs are fine to be left at home though.
Edited to put in missing word
