Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

YABU- It’s nice to do things for your partner

YANBU-my hair my choice

My dh has never shaved his pubes tbh I do mine when I can be bothered I told him he's to shave his if he wants a constant bald look but in fairness he's never ever been bothered by it he's fine either way I just won't do it for anyone because they want it

I go bald almost all the time. Only when ingrowing hairs have been a problem I've let it grow a bit.
I've been with girls as well and every single one was shaved - I actually felt embarrassed when I hooked up one unexpectedly around ten years ago and I had a fair bit of bush going on at the time.
I'm an absolute fiend for oral sex and yes It does make it feel better as tongue glides over skin.
My half sister is gay and she says most lesbians she's met under about 40 almost all go bare down there. The issue is never discussed as such but more 'just a thing's. Difficult to explain.
One friend had so bad cysts and ingrown hairs, she has all her body hair Lasered off age 20. She says it's saves so much time it's best time saver she's ever done.

If my dh had a hairy back I'd ask him to wax. Smooth is aesthetically a nicer look.

To you. Not everyone has the same taste as you. I'm not a fan of the tortured male chest look as seen on reality tv.

Can I ask (and I would only ever be able to ask on Mumsnet!) but do all those women who take off all of their pubic hair have neat “innies”? That would explain a lot to me as to why they are comfortable going bare. Or are there any ladies with larger inner labia on show that are also happy to shave it all, and does this get the same reaction, since they cannot possibly look pre-pubescent?

(For the record I’m not quite an “outie” but after childbirth I don’t think it’s pretty enough to go into the world without a bit of cover!)

I have large inner labia.

I think they are gorgeous. I like that I can see them when I'm bare.

I've seen all kinds of labia in porn. I've never felt like large labia isn't pretty.

I think they look and feel sensual.

I think that a beard or moustache filled with food and stale beer/saliva is far grimmer than a well maintained pubic beard

Maybe find men who actually put food into their mouth (not around it), and don’t drool? DH and our sons all have beards but they don’t seem to have the odd issue you describe.

Bless you, Bambooshoot. I get why you might be concerned but you needn't be. If you're doing it for yourself because it's nicer for you then whether your inner labia is tucked inside or poking out, it really won't matter. If you wanted to have waxing (my preference) then find a really good waxing salon, there are many that do only waxing - and they will have seen every type of labia, it's all in a day's work for them and whatever you have is fine, prettiness not a requirement.

It's only on mumsnet that women get criticised for removing their hair. I've not seen this in real life anywhere. It's not really a topic for discussion.

No adult woman can look pre-pubescent, with or without hair. Only the very thick continue to assert that nonsense and are best ignored.

I've been with my Husband nearly 30 years & it's never been an issue for either of us if I've shaved or not. I'd only do it if he asked if he got lost in the bush or couldn't find his way around down there. I really only tidy up down there for holidays so he's pretty much used to a yetti the rest of the time.

Disturbia81 · 08/01/2025 18:08

@Bambooshoot It's quite sad you think of neat tiny ones being pretty, and ones sticking out as not. Think that comment could make others feel like shit when you feel that yourself.
