Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

YABU- It’s nice to do things for your partner

YANBU-my hair my choice

@ARealitycheck "That does not give you the right to tell your daughter, or anyone else what they should do with their body."

And as a man you have no right to be involved in a conversation about women do with their body hair. I have not told anyone what to do with their body hair-I have just said that context is important. It's good to know why we make the decisions we do. But as I said, women's decisions about their bodies are not a matter for men to be involved it.

Read the OP. It isn't a discussion about women only. Also I'd say I'm probably one of the voices of reason in saying, your body, your choice.

Marshbird · 31/12/2024 19:45

Oh the joys of being post menopausal…ladies if you’re lucky ( or unlucky if you like your bush) you’ll find it hard to locate any hairs to shave post menopausally. Not just on vulva, my arms, legs, and underarm . But sadly also thinning on my head hair and my eyebrows. It is all migrating into my nose apparently 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 31/12/2024 19:53

That's so on-brand for a bloke.

But you seem determined to decide why women choose to remove their pubic hair.

You can't know everyone's reasoning or just decide it's for men and because of porn.

JHound · 31/12/2024 20:51

Also the other benefit of getting all my pubic hair ripped out - is not accidentally tugging at hairs when trying to remove a menstrual cup that is not in place properly.

When I leave a wax too long and that happens it is so annoying!

I would say that I think most men would find a bush very sexy

Who cares what "men" think?
Although I think it's weird anyone would think all men like the same thing.

I don't find a full bush sexy.

I like how mine looks bare, and prefer to go down on partners with no hair either.

Other people's opinions male or female won't change my preference.

RainbowSquare · 31/12/2024 20:53

Mary Mary quite contrary, shave your pussy it's too darn hairy.

Out of curiosity if you had a partner that didn’t like to shave and it made them uncomfortable what would you do?

I don’t care. I have the lot waxed off and have done for years and years. It doesn’t make me have an opinion on anyone else’s choice. I am curious about shaving it off though? Is it not horrible stubbly?

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 31/12/2024 21:06

Maybe some people are used to it or shave it super frequently?

My own personal anecdote though - I shaved it as I took a notion. Went hillwalking on a hot day two or three days later. The standout, vivid memory of that day was the extreme itching. It was a busy route so I had to refrain from clawing at my own crotch.
Hours of torture.

Wisenotboring · 31/12/2024 21:14

If anyone who I was intimate enough with to show.my fanny had any expectations beyond cleanliness, my vagina would simply slam.shut and I really would go off them. To answer your question OP, no I have never felt burdened by any pube-based expectations. Stick to what suits you, whatever that is.

I think it probably depends on the hair type - my partner is blonde/reddish and barely any hair as it is, he uses a body trimmer and is absolutely fine.

I could never get away with that, wax is the best option for me too (eventually laser one day as well).

Age sorts it out anyway. Currently sporting the monk look.

I haven't said anything of the sort. But it is a bit of a coincidence that the trend towards hairlessness in our society matches the spread of porn. That is not saying of course that women are consciously or directly influenced by porn-just that porn is why it's become a societal norm. It's worth thinking about, is all.

But as has been said repeatedly porn used to feature lots of body hair! Look at any adult films from years ago and the women are as hairy as the men.

Do you not understand that trends change and evolve?

DearDenimEagle · 01/01/2025 00:33

Shaving below never again. I tried it once for curiosity and it itched like hell..it was a torturous time and I never did it again. Never was asked to by a partner or husband. I won’t go with a guy who shaves. It’s their choice, but I wouldn’t want to be with them. Children are hairless. Adults have hair.
As for following trends..I’m old now, post menopause and I have never followed trends. Never will. I please myself.

You honestly can't say that you think it is cleaner to remove pubic hair without also saying that those who don't are dirtier!

For god sake get a grip.
People on here are ridiculous.
People can feel different things.

She did not say people that dont shave are dirty. She said she shaves because it makes her FEEL cleaner, and its HER preference.

The bush brigade seem extremely touchy about not shaving and consistently slamming those who do. While those who shave are very much pro do what you want and what feels best for you.

Interesting seen as you're all seemingly happy and confident about not shaving.

Loki64 · 01/01/2025 01:53

Porn is full of different preferences.
Theres plenty of porn where women dont shave.

BeDeepKoala · 01/01/2025 03:48

This is very age-specific. The data generally shows that not shaving is mostly a thing among old(er) women, while younger women generally prefer to shave. Its unclear if this is a genuine generational preference, or whether people just become lazy once they start hitting middle age (and probably have less sex, certainly less dating)

Men generally have a preference for shaved, regardless of age (although its stronger in younger men)

See, this is the kind of phrasing that is the issue. Why is the implication that it is "lazy" not to shave?

😁 Yes. I'm not sure younger women are aware but with ageing comes thinning (and greying) of the bush. Personally I've always rocked (and loved) a full bush, which is surprising silky when you never shave 😁 Maybe it's a sensory thing 🤔Sadly now heading for the monk look also. I just always found the bald look too childlike and itchy! Just personal preference isn't it.

I would honestly recommend growing it and enjoying it while you can though, because one day it will be gone for good!

CurlewKate · 01/01/2025 09:37

I'm not "slamming" anybody. Or touchy. I do wonder what you think about women being anxious about seeking medical advice or going into labour because they think they will be judged by HCPs for having hair....

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 01/01/2025 09:41

"The bush brigade seem extremely touchy about not shaving and consistently slamming those who do. While those who shave are very much pro do what you want and what feels best for you."

Are you sure? Because on this thread I've read various posters now saying it's lazy not to shave, and those who don't have lower hygeine standards.
