Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

YABU- It’s nice to do things for your partner

YANBU-my hair my choice

"The bush brigade seem extremely touchy about not shaving and consistently slamming those who do. While those who shave are very much pro do what you want and what feels best for you."

Are you sure? Because on this thread I've read various posters now saying it's lazy not to shave, and those who don't have lower hygeine standards.

That’s the way it’s looked to me too.

You must care what men think by what you’ve just said your partner😂 HAPPY NEW YEAR

helpplease01 · 01/01/2025 10:02

Just don’t! Do men shave off all their pubs? No. It’s patriarchal bull shit. Bring Bush Back

Many do. I like my dh trimmed, he is happy to comply. No one likes pubes.

Do you shave your armpits if yes why?

BIossomtoes · 01/01/2025 10:11

No one likes pubes.

Clearly some people do or nobody would have them.

Do you shave your armpits if yes why?

Not any more because I no longer wear sleeveless tops or dresses. Disgusting, aren’t I?

Londonnight · 01/01/2025 10:15

I'm in my 60's and have never shaved my pubic hair and I have never had any pressure to do so from male partners

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 01/01/2025 10:20

Do you shave your armpits if yes why?

Occasionally only, in summer when I'm wearing sleeveless tops. Reason is purely social pressure.

YesExactlyYes · 01/01/2025 10:24

I don't shave my armpits. Why should I?

No, your choice. Why because you don't wear sleeveless tops though, is it because you actually agree thst body hair isn't particularly attractive nothing to do with porn?

Hunglikeapolevaulter · 01/01/2025 10:31

For me it's because I know how judgey people are, I personally prefer the look and feel of my pits with hair.

See though, here it is again. The implication that natural body hair "isn't particularly attractive".

I don’t wear sleeveless tops any more because I have bingo wings. I used to shave my arm pits when I did wear them because women like you judge you if you don’t. As a pp said, it’s societal pressure, now only two people including myself see my armpits I don’t need to bother.

Well you shouldn't if you choose not to but many if not most women do because they choose to.

Even men have waxes nowadays this really isn't a mean patriarchal issue it is an aesthetic one.

I wonder if folk iron their clothes. I mean there's no need, it isn't dirty or unhygienic not to it just, y'know, looks better.

What? Body hair is attractive to loads of people. Lots of women like hair on a man, lots of men like hair on a woman. Shave or don’t shave but not everyone shares your particular idea of beauty ideals.

Privacynotguaranteed · 01/01/2025 10:49

The bush brigade seem extremely touchy

🤣 Sorry had to laugh at this, yes I do indeed like touching mine, like I said it's a sensory/comfort thing 🤣

HoppingPavlova · 01/01/2025 10:56

No idea there is such an expectation/strong preference. No one ever said that to me? When I had periods (have had Mirena for good 20 years, so none) I used to trim the hair so it got less manky with periods, as I only used pads after giving birth to my first. That was just a close trim around the relevant area though, not all over, or a shave. And I didn’t bother prior to my first at all and no one ever said anything?

I'm not "slamming" anybody. Or touchy. I do wonder what you think about women being anxious about seeking medical advice or going into labour because they think they will be judged by HCPs for having hair....

Drs and nurses have seen it all. They would not give 2 hoots about the choices of a patient regarding body hair removal. Anyone allegedly anxious about this only needs a very brief chat with their hcp to allay any possible anxieties.

Startingagainandagain · 01/01/2025 11:11

I don't shave. My body my choice.

If a man 'expects' you to shave your pubic hair, dump him.

It is disturbing how something that has its origins in porn is now seen as an 'expectation'...

I shave my armpits only because I know other people will judge me as unclean, dirty, smelly, and I will get looks and comments.

only because of other people. I admit it. I don’t want to be self conscious of other people’s judgement when I reach for a tin of beans.

look what happens to celebs- people still remember Julia Roberts.

i was in a kids playground once and there were a bunch of children around 8-10 years old. They were commenting on a toddler’s body hair - ew it’s disgusting, I’d be shaving that, etc. the toddler was south asian or similar and had a small amount of dark downy hair in the small of her back you could see when he t-shirt lifted up.

you see threads on here where women want to shave their young children’s arm or leg hair very early, purely to avoid being teased at school. Kids are clearly learning from somewhere that body hair is unclean on girls.

anyone who says removing body hair is a free choice made from free will is kidding themselves.

I don’t care. I have the lot waxed off and have done for years and years. It doesn’t make me have an opinion on anyone else’s choice. I am curious about shaving it off though? Is it not horrible stubbly?

Not really. I shave every day/every other day and it's no worse than shaving my legs or armpits and takes about a minute. Having said that, I've been using an IPL for the past few months as I'm lazy and one day hope to not shave at all anymore. I hate the sensation of hair - arms, armpits, legs, pubes - it all comes off. I prefer the feel of smooth skin.

Lanzarotelady · 01/01/2025 11:49

Pressure from whom? Who exactly are you discussing it with?

All hair? Or just body hair? Does hating the sensation of hair and preferring smooth skin extend to your head?

funny that is doesn’t when it’s not socially acceptable for women to lack head hair, yet it’s definitely personal preference to remove hair.

I prefer to remove coarse hair as I don't like the feel of it, is that okay with you?
