Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

YABU- It’s nice to do things for your partner

YANBU-my hair my choice

Ok but this is what you said:

Only thing dh hates is it all took off. He says it just looks wrong.

Which is very different to your update.

It's really not. He has his opinion that's up to him. No where did I say he forces or dictates that opinion on to me

I prefer shaved on men and women and most people I've dated have shaved as well.

I also keep it bald through waxing, shaving, and creams. I also have a crystal I use in between that removes hair.

I'm not a pedophile but I prefer going down on someone showered and bald, especially when it comes to women. I'm currently in a same sex relationship who prefers the same. It's not a deal breaker, but we both prefer hairless.

I think Vulvas are gorgeous and I've yet to see a grown woman with a vulva like a child's. Labia grows during puberty. I have large labia minora and look nothing like a child.

I have dated one man who preferred hair. Not my cup of tea but I did grow it out for him.

I didn't see it as a huge issue since he was the one spending time down there. It didn't seem like an issue to do what he preferred.

He shaved for me, I didn't shave for him. It worked. Lol

I know people tend to see this as a feminist issue but I don't. If someone is spending an hour down there I'll happily take their preferences into consideration.

Also for the younger generation of teens/20 year olds my niece and her friends don't shave their arm pits or legs but still shave their pubic hair. Make of that what you will.

Can I ask about the Crystal? Never heard of this but just googled it and first one that came up is by a brand called Lux Skin, is this what you have? Would you recommend?

I was raped regularly from the age of about 8 - so tend to have an adverse reaction to paedophilia.

But let it go if you're fine with it.

Sorry you experienced that traumatic experience. But I do think to jump to the conclusion a person has sinister motives, just because they have a preference for removing pubes is a bit of an over-reaction.

Gloriia · 30/12/2024 18:42

As we keep saying it is very odd that people keep bringing children into this discussion.

Adult trimmed/shaven genital areas bear no resemblance to children and people should stop making this connection.

Well said. Some people really need to have a look at how their minds work.

That isn't what anybody said, is it? It's the persistent reference to 'childlike' that is getting people's backs up. Having a preference isn't a problem for anyone.

DroopyEyelids · 30/12/2024 19:46

I thought this was a 00s trend. I didn’t realise anyone still did this. For me it’s a tidy bikini line for swimming half the year only.

The person I was replying clearly seems to see a connection between shaving and paedophilia. That is what is in the quoted text.

Sorry that happened to you but I am obviously fine with it. My partner and I are not paedophiles because we remove body hair. Pretty sure there is zero correlation in the wider population too. You shouldn't be accusing people of it.

I guess men try to turn themselves into boys by shaving their faces. And women who don't like men with beards are pedophiles. 🤔

Fair enough. It is though the constant message of "... if you remove your pubic hair you're wanting to look like a child"... whether it's the poster saying it or their witless partners. It's all through the thread and it's hugely annoying.

If I've misunderstood you, ARealitycheck then I apologise for that.

Yep, probably. And my partner looks like a 10 year old boy rather than a middle aged man with shaved balls.

Fine with what?

Paedophilia?

Please clarify, as I don't want to report you if that's not actually what you're accusing me of?

Marine30 · 30/12/2024 20:16

I keep it neat and tidy (but not bald) but that’s because I like it that way. Friction is a thing - nature’s clever like that.

RadioCountdown · 30/12/2024 20:19

Destiny123 · 29/12/2024 22:18

Anaesthetist so see about 5 naked people most days. Most people don't shave

That’s helpful to know.

Shudahaddogs · 30/12/2024 20:19

The fact that they are even near.. you have done well, iam an icon, take me as I am.

Greeneyegirl · 30/12/2024 20:20

Been with DH since 17 and I used to shave as a teen because I thought I should, he wasn't bothered and it was scratchy to go down on. Now I do the edge and undercarriage with hair removal cream and keep the rest trim. Most of the time. And that's for me, he's not bothered either way

Angrymum22 · 30/12/2024 20:27

If it’s any consolation when you hit menopause it starts to disappear naturally so you no longer have to bother shaving or waxing.
Never had anyone object to pubic hair although DH thought it would be “fun” to shave me. When I suggested we both shaved he went off the idea.
Maybe grow it out before it’s too late just so you can compare with and without.

Cocopops22 · 30/12/2024 20:33

I let mine grow and occasionally trim down and trim the sides haha 😆 but I’ve never minded ..I now leave my armpit hair but I am single and don’t mind this .. but as for down there the bfs I have had all prefer natural hair , I also think it’s quite child like to be completely bald also unless you’re going to wax I wouldn’t be shaving every week it leaves bumps and makes it sooo itchy I prefer natural all the way xx

Vynalbob · 30/12/2024 20:48

At best it's probably due to an overdose of porn but asking (or worse pressurising) a partner to go bald is very off. Personally too prepubescent.

Loveperiod · 30/12/2024 20:51

Not sure if it’s a cultural thing but I believe majority of black people(that I have come across) find it actually unhygienic keeping your hair down below

I’m black. None of the females in my family shave and wouldn’t.

It’s not unhygienic though.

Culture aside, people aren’t shaving because they “find it unhygienic”, they are shaving because they have perceived it as unhygienic.

it’s the opposite, in fact as removing pubic hair increases infection rates and other issues.

the only thing that can make the genital area cleaner or more hygienic is washing it.

CurlewKate · 30/12/2024 21:27

The porn influenced drive for removing pubic hair is shocking and women should resist it. All part of the narrative that women's bodies are hairy, leaky, smelly and defective and need to be improved. An awful lessons for our daughters.

Maray1967 · 30/12/2024 21:29

nonbinaryfinery · 29/12/2024 21:51

Pubic hair exists for a reason. Removing it means you're more prone to infections and other nasties.

I don't date anymore, but when I was, I trimmed a bit, but wouldn't ever shave it off. It's supposed to be there.

My view too. I think DH would be astonished if I shaved it all off. And the stubble would surely be awful? !!

NotEatingApples · 30/12/2024 21:29

marmia1234 · 30/12/2024 00:55

The difference is the pubic area is a sexual characteristic, mens chins are generally not.Nor are their heads.
I find it odd that all of the ."I just do it for myself because I like it crowd " arrived at the exact time as internet porn. We'd all been carrying on happily for years with our floofy bushes, with maybe a bit of a trim and a shave at the sides so they didn't poke out from your bikini; and then suddenly " no I hate it all. It's unbearable". But it's definitely for me not the guy I'm dating who watches a bit too much PornHub. Weird coincidence.
Oh and it does make you look like a plucked chicken and pre-pubescent. Try and tell yourself it doen't but your wrong.

I agree. They're so amusing. Silly, silly women 😅😅
