To think very few actors can act drunk convincingly?

Just that really, especially on soaps. They just don’t seem to be able to do it convincingly. Can anyone act drunk convincingly without actually getting drunk?

OP posts:
OldTinHat · 16/12/2024 04:22

Agree!!

OldTinHat · 16/12/2024 04:24

I've seen Sh!t Faced Shakespeare a few times, and they're absolutely not. Great concept, but they can't pull it off imo.

Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell) seems to play drunk extremely well, can’t deny it

You’re right though it’s a very rare talent

the80sweregreat · 16/12/2024 04:29

Linda and Phil actors on Eastenders have done a good job of it !

EauNeu · 16/12/2024 05:18

Best drunk acting ever: Jeanette krankie in dinner ladies as petula gordino"s friend even they turn up pissed together at the Christmas party

ColinOfficeTrolley · 16/12/2024 05:23

Steve McFadden does a great job. I am willing him to get back on it atm. Love ally/crackhead Phil.

And there was a scene in mare of eastown with Kate Winslet - In which the actor did some amazing drunk acting.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 16/12/2024 05:24

Stephen Graham. In a Shane Meadows film the The Virtues. But Stephen Graham is an incredible actor in everything.

CalicoPusscat · 16/12/2024 06:58

Oh c'mon ever seen With Withnail & I?? Richard E. Grant best drunk ever! IRL he can't drink alcohol as he can't process it

CleanShirt · 16/12/2024 07:02

Martin Clunes and Neil Morrissey did it wonderfully in Men Behaving Badly.

I was going to say this!

Stephen Graham in The Virtues is incredible.

CheeseTime · 16/12/2024 07:11

Agree. I can’t bear watching Johnny Depp as drunk Captain Sparrow. So irritating.

bryceQ · 16/12/2024 07:14

Moira with the fruit wine in schitts creek!! 😂

I was going to say that! I guess he has observed a lot of drunk people over the years.

Saucery · 16/12/2024 07:18

Michael Caine described it as not acting drunk, but trying to act as if you are extremely sober (or something along those lines).

RumpleDumple · 16/12/2024 07:19

Emily Blunt in Girl on the Train. Very understated but excellent because of that

Yes 🤣

SidekickSylvia · 16/12/2024 07:20

I loved Moira's drunk acting in Schitt's Creek, but she was delightfully bonkers anyway.

The worst drunk acting I've seen was Daphne's brother in Frasier. Complete ham.

Saucery · 16/12/2024 07:21

Hugh Jackman in The Prestige acted drunk quite well.
Nicholas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas - heartbreakingly so.

Especially when they went to the rave and Martin Clunes barffed on the camera. That episode was so funny.

I heard someone say that in an interview recently. They were being praised for their drunk acting, I think despite them not ever drinking alcohol in real life, and said this advice.

It's annoying me that I can't remember who it was now.
