To think very few actors can act drunk convincingly?

Just that really, especially on soaps. They just don’t seem to be able to do it convincingly. Can anyone act drunk convincingly without actually getting drunk?

Michael Caine in Educating Rita.

Emily Blunt in Girl on the Train. Very understated but excellent because of that

Is that good? I was thinking about watching it

kittyfayne · 16/12/2024 07:29

Best drunk acting ever is Conleth Hill in Car Share.

Best drunk Smurf acting ever too. By a country mile 😆

The actor who played Peter Barlow on corrie was very good a few years ago.

I heard someone say that in an interview recently. They were being praised for their drunk acting, I think despite them not ever drinking alcohol in real life, and said this advice.

It's annoying me that I can't remember who it was now.

Richard e grant? He must be the world’s most famous drunk who doesn’t drink.

I loved Moira's drunk acting in Schitt's Creek, but she was delightfully bonkers anyway.

The worst drunk acting I've seen was Daphne's brother in Frasier. Complete ham.

That bloody guy, I hated him so much. And why was he cockney when she was northern? Did Americans think it was the same accent?

tsmainsqueeze · 16/12/2024 07:35

Sue's 'dad' in Rita sue and Bob too.

ElfAndSafetyBored · 16/12/2024 07:37

Gary Oldman in Friends? 🤣

I hated him and her mother. They dragged down every scene they were in.

Father Jack Hackett? What a character. Feck!

Just about to say that! Willie Ross…best drunk ever!

susiedaisy1912 · 16/12/2024 07:47

@HelpMeGetThrough

Especially when they went to the rave and Martin Clunes barffed on the camera. That episode was so funny.

Yep I still remember that episode 😁

Oh c'mon ever seen With Withnail & I?? Richard E. Grant best drunk ever! IRL he can't drink alcohol as he can't process it

Opened the thread specifically to say this!

ClaireEclair · 16/12/2024 07:49

Tom Burke (Strike) is convincing. And Jennifer Aniston was too in Friends. She had to do it twice! When she decided she was over Ross and then in Vegas when she got drunk with Ross after he drew on her face. Her “I’m good baby, how you doin?” to Joey was hilarious!

Grin To be fair, there's probably not much competition for the best drunk Smurf acting award, but yes, he would get it. I loved that episode. Loved the whole series, actually.

Aintnobodygottime · 16/12/2024 07:50

We were rewatching Gavin and Stacey last night and commented on how well done the hen night drunkeness is done. ‘The thing is, when all’s said and done…’.

Babycatsarenice · 16/12/2024 07:51

Her out of Bridesmaids on the flight.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/12/2024 07:51

The director of Withnail and I, Bruce Robinson, made Richard E. Grant get drunk before filming started so he would know what it was like. Can't imagine that was medically approved, but it did the trick!

TheYeaSayer · 16/12/2024 07:57

Ha! I also just opened the thread to say Richard E Grant in Withnail and I!

LozzaChops101 · 16/12/2024 08:01

I rewatched Last Tango in Halifax recently, and Ronnie Ancona was the worst drunk I’ve ever seen on screen!

Bubblesgun · 16/12/2024 08:01

Madd Mikkelsen in Another Round - excellent film and acting especially drunk

Bubblesgun · 16/12/2024 08:07

no alcohol was served

I thought Paul Kaye and Tanya Franks in Pulling did it very well

Jostuki · 16/12/2024 08:17

I'd you want to see great acting by someone portraying a drunk then this is a masterpiece -
