XL bully shot

Local XL bully shot today. The owner is saying on social media that the dog was harmless but I've seen it go for a a small child before. Why are these dogs 'harmless" until they injure or kill

what is, I feel, a valid logical position on the debate

But it's not valid or logical because even if all dogs had the same propensity to attack; the dogs with the most weight, bite power, largest mouths & most tenacity - would be the most likely to kill or inflict serious injuries.

If the owner was going to be prosecuted for anything relating to it, you've just ensured they can't be guaranteed a fair trial, as any jury member could have seen the photo and read your claims.

Well done.

If they plead Not Guilty, any trial would be at least two years away, and may not even come up in front of a jury - it may be a summary charge. Even if it is a jury trial, the chances of a member having (a) read this thread, (b) specifically remembered it, and (c) been sufficiently affected for it to change their verdict, are minuscule.

Aw, so you were being unkind XL bully to me ☹️
I gave you benefit of the doubt, but then you go and put yourself down.

yawn

C'mon you can do better than that. PPs have called me a fucking idiot, chavtastic. Be more creative

mrsrabbit3 · 07/12/2024 22:47

It isn't rocket science is it.

A 150lb dog made up of pure muscle with a massive head and jaws. A dubious DNA trail of inbreeding and messed up genetics linking back to one infamous savage dog. And a demographic of owners who are at best thick/irresponsible and at worst deliberately using these animals as weapons...

I mean what could possibly go wrong?

ScorpioRising83 · 07/12/2024 19:58

I've met tiny terriers that have scared me more than most of the XL bullies I've met.

It's not the breed it's the owners. XLBs are popular with roadmen for defensive purposes.

Not an XL, but the best dogs I've ever met were staffies.

Sorry, but it is the breed. They were purposely and selectively bred to be aggressive. And as such, unfortunately they all too often attract the worst type of owner, anti social types who use the dogs as intimidating accessories.

Nope. I think my response is spot on. Ta.

You're right the attacks don't always mean death. Sometimes they are "just" injured.

Here are pictures of a 12 year old in Wales injured by an XL Bully whose parents wanted her injuries to be seen to publicise the danger of these dogs.

It is extremely graphic. Don't click if you don't want to see it.

As I said previously, I was mauled as a small child by a fairly large dog which wasn't a demonised breed.

You don't need to show me these videos, I've personal experience of my face hanging off after being attacked by a dog.

Any dog, especially a large one, poses a risk. Especially if the owners are eejits who don't know how to handle it

saltysandysea · 07/12/2024 22:51

Owners will always state their precious fur baby was completely entitled to attack people and it was just friendly in its own special way.

XL bullys are getting the attention as they do kill people but any dog which attacks must be treated with zero tolerance. That includes other pets, livestock on farms and also that deer which was killed by an out of control spaniel as well. Yes, the dogs are poorly trained and handled but with some black and white consequences it might make owners consider their actions a bit more carefully.

whoosh I haven't "put myself down" but yeah I would love to see you business plan on this matter ....
Dear local MP you know those XL bully dogs well I've got an idea for a dog zoo....
There you go I've started it for you .

You're not really paying attention to "bullies", but you're quoting words from their post (or words you think you read in their post) and putting laughing emojis next to it?

Link to some evidence for your hyperbole and I will read it carefully.

Insult me and I will just skim it.

Stupidest comment of the night.

'It'S nOt ThE dOG iT's ThE oWnEr' doesn't apply when you're dealing with a breed who have been bred to be utterly psychotic. If you can't see the difference between XLB and a staffie then you are beyond help.

No need to be nasty, especially when you are wrong:

  • Staffies were actually bred for bull baiting, and some will attack other dogs, horses without provocation.
  • The Xl bully, however, was bred to have a more even better temperament than it's ancestors, the American bully. Bred as a companion dog, not for fighting at all. But the XL are bred for size (Americans do seem to have a thing about size) . It is the British owners that have done this.
  • Alsatians and Dobermanns are bred to fight wolves, Rottweillers are bred to protect cattle, but I do not see any of this hype around them.
Sometimes it is just about OUR reaction too - unprovoked attack? Not always - if you swing a handbag at any dog, it is very likely to attack for example. A screaming child jumping on a sleeping dog is asking for trouble. It is then that size and weight comes in to play.

Having said all of that, I do agree there is no reason in a modern urban, domestic, setting to have a dog of any great size.

Exactly. So inbred, so strong and savage. When they turn they are unstoppable. Just not worth the risk.

OakTree16 · 07/12/2024 20:10

It really is the breed though.

My DS friends parents have just got one. He won’t be going to their house anymore. They have a baby as well, just ridiculous. Comments on their fb posts like “welcome to the bully club”. 🤢

Report to the police - it's illegal to "get one" now. Is it puppy or adult?

Name calling is unnecessary

StrawberryDream24 · 07/12/2024 23:10

I know which dog I would have felt safer around.

But that's not what I asked.

I asked, if you were attacked, would you prefer to be arranged by the small mouthed, low psi bite, small bodied dog ..or the heavy, large bodied, large mouthed, high psi bite dog?
