What needs to be invented that hasn’t been yet?

We need car radio that we can pause. There was a quiz on the radio earlier and I waited ages for the answer but eventually had to go to a meeting. I wish I could pause it and start where I’d turned the engine off. Same as a rewind for when you start the car at the end of a song you love.

What else needs to be invented?

Yes an invention to stop periods altogether, in the safest way , for women who don't want any periods

I know it doesn’t work for everyone but I don’t have periods on the mirena coil. Got it at 22 and it honestly changed my life. I have only had two breaks from it to have DC.

An ironing machine you just hang things up in and press a button and they come out perfectly pressed without further human intervention.

A bracket on the wall to hang up your hairdryer so you have both hands free (to style your hair or out on make-up or play on your phone or whatever).

I have a hook on the side wall of the chimney breast in my bedroom for this exact purpose! Hair dryer hangs upside down, head height. I just twizzle position as required.

Mine is a robot vac for stairs.

In the same way you can have a mixer tap that you can flick from hot to cold, I’d like a shower that can start with soapy water or shampoo, then when you’re ready you flick it to plain water to rinse. I saw it once in a sci-fi programme.

And I think other things I’d want are already invented, they’re just not cost effective for society or for me personally.

I’d love a library van to visit weekly that you could choose or order books from.

A supermarket van that you can climb aboard and pick stuff up, that would be a daily visit.

A small coffee van like they sometimes have at festivals, that would simply drive up and down my road hourly.

A tablet that would be perfectly nutritionally balanced for the odd occasion when you can’t be bothered to cook or eat.

A pill to take instead of having to put on sun cream

Ohhh! That would be good!

So... you want someone to invent BBC Sounds?

A pain-free mammogram machine. Having your breasts squeezed between 2 plastic blocks is agony

One language for all of Europe to learn, so everyone can communicate.

While also keeping their own languages.

What, like Esperanto? I learned it as a child, but never met anyone else who knew it. If you knew a bit of Latin and French, it was quite easy to understand.

Lycopene in tomatoes stops you burning in the sun. I am a red head with pale skin, I eat tomato paste for two weeks before going on vacation. I never burn

Oh I'm in Spain this week. I'm walking round it.
In the city I'm in there are a million traffic lights.

You you get to walk for two minutes, then you have to wait for five minutes as cars go past, then walk, then wait again at the next lights. It takes ages to walk anywhere.

I thought "why don't they invent smaller pedestrian footbridges that go up and over thes roads That way, no one at all would have to stand waiting at traffic lights for ages"

Have you been to Vegas, they have escalators that go up over and down the other side over roads there.

A machine I walk into after showering and come out of 5 mins later with a perfect blow dry, dressed in a great outfit and perfectly made up. I have been fantasising about it since my 20s. A much more sophisticated and comprehensive version of the make up gun that Homer shoots in Marge's face in the Simpsons.

Front doors that open with a retina scan, so I’m not faffing with keys, handbag, work bag, shopping, etc.

No I haven't been!

Oh my God that's my dream, sounds amazing.

That's what I want in Europe!

A miniature book scaffold that holds heavy books up sideways so you can read them lying down in bed.

So you want someone to invent... English?

Yes! I always think it's stupid to need a key to open doors. They are so easily lost, and if you lose your keys, you're fucked. You have no other way to get in.

You should be able to set up an app on your phone with a password that you can then swipe on the front door.

I know in the USA, some of the houses open with codes, not keys

Pinkruler · 12/11/2024 21:37

Agree with pp re the teleporter idea.

My though is that teleportation will be quite difficult to invent but that it would be good if , when you're on the phone with someone, they could somehow experience the surroundings that you're in.

Other ideas - small portable microwave.

Greenfinch7 · 12/11/2024 21:37

A way to match people with friends, fellow parents, partners, and mentors all of whom are actually compatible and local.

Alifemadelessordinary · 12/11/2024 21:38

A drive through convenience store where I don't have to get DD out of the car just to buy a loaf of bread or pint of milk.

So you want someone to invent... English?

What do you mean.

All of Europe - don't speak English do they!

I'm here in Spain right now, and none of the Spanish people near me here, speak English.

What, like Esperanto? I learned it as a child, but never met anyone else who knew it. If you knew a bit of Latin and French, it was quite easy to understand.

I saw a report on tv once about a couple (both European) who met in an Esperanto social club somewhere. They dated, married, had kids and were pensioners, but they still didn’t speak each others native languages, they (and their children) communicated in Esperanto.

More variety of period products.

I often thought that a natural sponge type product would be more comfortable to wear than a pad.

You can get sea sponge tampons
