What needs to be invented that hasn’t been yet?

We need car radio that we can pause. There was a quiz on the radio earlier and I waited ages for the answer but eventually had to go to a meeting. I wish I could pause it and start where I’d turned the engine off. Same as a rewind for when you start the car at the end of a song you love.

What else needs to be invented?

@AnchorWHAT yes but more local! Everyday trains at all locations, instead of people, cars!
Don't you be stealing my Dragons Den idea now! 🤣

Self driving cars that you pay an annual fee or prepayment for like an UBER - arrive at my house ltake me to work, drop me outside the door then off it goes to drive other customers so less faffing about parking / breakdowns/ running out of fuel, etc - no having to de ice either!

Do it at home smear tests

Apparently smear tests are self administered in the USA now which is great.

Yes I agree that English is used in businesses througjout Europe. The peolle who apply for those kind of roles in Germany , Spain and France need to be able to speak English, as it is a good language for Business.

But there is still no language that everyone in Europe can understand. A lot of people can't even communicate with each other.

It's a bit strange in this day and age. That so many people in Europe can't even communicate with each other at all.

I don't think we should force an existing language, English, on people, as they wouldnt like that.

Europe should come up with a new language and get everyone to learn it from a young age. They came up with the concept with Espranto, but then they didn't do much with it.

Edited

There used to be one understood by most of Europe and some places beyond.

it was called Latin.

Shame they did away with it. Though granted it was only accessible to the nobs.

A device that randomly reads poetry which is perfectly attuned to your mood - maybe only once or twice a day (but of course it would detect when you needed to hear something)

And after playing, it would tell you what it was and the poet.

If I ever go on desert island discs, that is my luxury item.

They wouldn't be able to get into the app because it would be password protected....OBVIOUSLY!* I have my bank card in my Google wallet on my phone. If I lose my phone, no one can access my bank card on the phone.....as it is password protected.*

It's NOT obviously! DS had his phone stolen from his hand at knifepoint in London last week. It was password protected and all his Apple stuff had facial recognition. Within 30 mins of his phone being stolen not only had they accessed all the cards in his wallet but also accessed his password protected bank accounts and tried to spend over 3k. Thankfully the banks were fab and he got it all back but it took over a week to sort out and numerous hours of going to banks or on the phone.

Do not get complacent with your phones!

I've seen a few posters now saying they'd love to be able to load their cars onto trains that run on tracks, and be able to do long journeys much more quickly/ safely/ using less fuel/ not having to concentrate on driving for hours..

This actually used to exist. We used it a few times to get from Scotland to London. It was really useful! Sadly this service was stopped completely in 1995.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motorail_(British_Rail)

There used to be a simlar network across many European countries, but I think the only such trains still running are the ones from Dusseldorf to Innsbruck or Villach (both in Austria), and one that runs occasionally from the latter to Edrine in Turkey.

Not quite the same, but there is the Poetry Phrmacy and Dispensary:

Lycopene in tomatoes stops you burning in the sun. I am a red head with pale skin, I eat tomato paste for two weeks before going on vacation. I never burn

That sounds great! Any recommendations on the tomato paste amounts?!

A device that I can stand in that showers me,washes my hair and dries me,with no input from me. I have osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis plus fibromyalgia and find the daily chore of showering quite exhausting at times. This would be an absolute god-send. And of course,it would be self-cleaning after use!

Auburngal · 19/11/2024 21:49

A robot that cooks anything you have in the kitchen. Then washes up.

Teleportation to anywhere you want to go.

A magic tap where you call it like Alexa and it produces any drink you want - alcoholic and non alcoholic.

A self cleaning home

I’ve often joke with my children that we should have a ‘School Run Catapult’. Every morning we launch the kids from the roof. The school have their catching net waiting.
Removes all parking / traffic problems with just an hour or so every morning of organised chaos in the sky 😂

😂😂😂 Love this!

Can you open a phone with a retina scan now?

No but you can open doors with facial recognition now so pretty much.

JohnTheRevelator · 19/11/2024 22:03

Just thought of another one. An umbrella that hovers above your head. I have mobility issues and use a walking stick,so if I have a bag of shopping or my shoppy trolley in the other hand,I can't use an umbrella. I've lost count of the times that people say to me in dismay when it's raining 'Oh no, haven't you brought an umbrella?'. I reply ' I've only got one pair of hands'.

They exist…umbrella hats!
