What needs to be invented that hasn’t been yet?

We need car radio that we can pause. There was a quiz on the radio earlier and I waited ages for the answer but eventually had to go to a meeting. I wish I could pause it and start where I’d turned the engine off. Same as a rewind for when you start the car at the end of a song you love.

What else needs to be invented?

Earplugs that actually block out all sound. I've tried so many and none work for my husband's incessant snoring.

Or maybe someone could invent quiet men.

Auburngal · 20/11/2024 10:16

An app where you open it and emits a STFU or stop screaming to loud, moaning people and screaming kids.

Illjusthavethebreadsticks · 27/11/2024 17:01

A crumpet toaster

Just thought of another one. An umbrella that hovers above your head. I have mobility issues and use a walking stick,so if I have a bag of shopping or my shoppy trolley in the other hand,I can't use an umbrella. I've lost count of the times that people say to me in dismay when it's raining 'Oh no, haven't you brought an umbrella?'. I reply ' I've only got one pair of hands'.

It's not glamorous but my granny and her pals all wore rain mates, basically a plastic see through headscarf to protect their hairdo's in the rain. Maybe they're due a modern redesign!

MadKittenWoman · 27/11/2024 17:25

A pill to reverse grey hair.

More variety of period products.

I often thought that a natural sponge type product would be more comfortable to wear than a pad.

A supermarket van that you can climb aboard and pick stuff up, that would be a daily visit.

We used to have these too, up to the early 70s at least.
We had a mobile shop come down our road a couple of times a week

We had this, and the Corona man that sold raspberryade!

One language for all of Europe to learn, so everyone can communicate.

While also keeping their own languages.

There is / was one Esperanto

Front doors that open with a retina scan, so I’m not faffing with keys, handbag, work bag, shopping, etc.

These exist.

Do it at home smear tests

A sensible business management team to sort the NHS out the shocking chaos is ridiculous. I feel from speaking to staff and my recent experience in the last year it’s more to do with bad planning mismanagement doesn’t matter how much money they throw at it if the management and procedures don’t change, it’s gonna stay fucked.

Auburngal · 27/11/2024 18:36

@Mrsgreen100 Tell me about that

Plus someone with medical knowhow needs to schedule the theatres and other treatment rooms.

Last week I had an appointment for further removal of a basel cell carcinoma (slow growing cancer) near eye, after biopsy revealed the bcc. Was scheduled to have in the treatment room. My procedure is too complex to be done there. Had to be done in an operating theatre. Very kindly rescheduled it for yesterday, though that meant last on the list.

Another thing for something to be reinvented whilst on the subject of the NHS - the car park to the Leicester Royal Infirmary. Last week, I noticed that the top level of the multistorey car park was 80% empty and some spaces on the floor below. It took my DF an hour and 20 mins to drive a third of a mile from the turn off from the main road to the sole car park entrance. The problem is the bottleneck at the entrance. I do feel sorry for anyone who lives with no PT, can't use PT but not qualify for hospital transport or needs to have regular treatment. My DF was about 7 cars from the entrance when I rang him and got to car 4 cars to go. He was able to avoid driving into the car park.

The two other hospitals in the city have two entrances and no issues with parking.

We used to have three buses an hour going past LRI and now its hourly. The other bus, get off the nearest bus stop and its one of those walks you think it takes 10 mins but in reality - its 25-30 mins. We are looking what buses are going past LRI and park on a side street in future visits.

Something that makes changing the duvet cover easier.

Yes!

Willsnbills · 19/11/2024 22:01

No but you can open doors with facial recognition now so pretty much.

That would be no good for me. Half the time my phone says my face is not recognised 🤔🤔

It already exists. It is called esperanto

Compulsory truth implants for politicians. If you want to be one, you have to have this implant implanted and will be unable to lie to the electorate. Full transparency.

Garlicpest · 02/12/2024 01:07

I'm voting for that one, @dontcryformeargentina!

Me three. It won't happen though because against their human rights or whatever. As would be slipping sodium amytal into their morning coffee.

dayslikethese1 · 02/12/2024 03:42

Alcohol free wine and prosecco that actually tastes like the real deal. Also they should sell the alcohol versions in half size bottles.

dayslikethese1 · 02/12/2024 03:44

Oh and a universal bar/restaurant app so you don't need to have a million different ones.

An app when I press it silences all phones, tablets etc. They won’t work again unless EarPods, headphones etc are connected.

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/12/2024 12:04

A temporary stairlift that doesn’t have to be fitted. A chair with robot legs that can climb stairs, maybe?

Have I just invented it 😁

ScottBakula · 03/12/2024 10:04

That would be really good for people with temporary mobility issues like a broken leg .
I'd back your invention !
