Sickening how none of the neighbours reported it. They should hang their heads in shame.

100% shame on them!!! Wish I’d not read the article it’s gonna haunt me…I know it’s controversial but surely we should hang child torturers and murderers ….it beggars belief what they did 😔

I did wonder if neighbours heard the slaps and screaming and on a continous basis . why the hell.didnt they report it??

She was scared.
Had been threatened.

The 3 bastards are to blame.

Yes of course the abusers are to blame.

But people keep saying that if children are at school ( i.e. not home educated) abuse can easily be uncovered. But as you said it doesn't always work like that.

School didn't report it either, despite her being covered in bruises.

That's what I thought. The could hear what was going on. Why would you not report it?

My son's school always rings me if he's got a scratch or bruise( self inflicted).so wonder why the school didn't pick up on it but either way it's absolutely terrible that poor little girl .. theys just no need.

For those asking about siblings, this was reported 9 months ago. Could have changed since then of course

The older brother and half-siblings of the 10-year-old schoolgirl Sara Sharif, who was found dead at the home of her father and stepmother in August, have been made wards of court in this country.
Despite efforts by Surrey county council to secure their return to the UK, all five children, aged one to 13, remain in Pakistan where they were taken by their father, Urfan Sharif, and the mother of the younger four siblings, Beinash Batool, the day before Sara’s body was discovered by police on 10 August.

I hope so. Surely they could have taken them back here when they flew the parents back over

I wondered this too. So teachers saw bruises but the articles don’t mention anything about a social services follow up! Did it not happen. How can any teacher not report it

The thing is, in this instance, I don't for one second she was taken out of school to be home schooled. I believe she was taken out of school for the abuse to be hidden from the authorities and to be the house slave. Why is everyone saying she was home-schooled?

I suspect that’s what the parents told the school.
So no one checks on the kids then.

They’re too worried that a child might be in Disney world and fining them to check for actual abuse.

hattie43 · 15/10/2024 17:20

It's just so horrific. What sort of people torture to death their own children . I read what happened to this little girl in the paper today and on a rare occasion wish we had the death penalty. There's no redemption for such evil people .

I'm off here now. But I swear, I have intervened, made myself look stupid on several occasions and would do so over and over again.

Recently I saw a girl of about 10 in nightwear runing around outside a place which houses people from a reugee back ground. I poked my nose in and also Reported in by email, no reply.

Can you phone your local council safe guarding board? Say you emailed and didn’t have a reply.

Yes they did. They reported her bruises to social services.
Sadly, because they did the right thing, the father removed her from school so that they couldn't make further referrals.

My son's school always rings me if he's got a scratch or bruise( self inflicted).so wonder why the school didn't pick up on it but either way it's absolutely terrible that poor little girl .. theys just no need.

She was withdrawn from school on 17 April 2023 and homeschooled after teachers reported seeing her with bruises on three occasions. On 10 March 2023, the second incident, Sara’s teacher, Helen Simmons, asked the schoolgirl about the two distinct bruises on her chin and right eye.
Emlyn Jones said: “Sara acted coy and tried to hide them. Miss Simmons observed that Sara would often pull her hijab to hide her face if she did not want to speak or was being told off. Sara gave multiple conflicting stories as to how she got the bruises.”
The teacher sought advice and it was agreed that a referral to social services was needed, the prosecutor added. The teacher noticed another bruise on 28 March and questioned Batool, who claimed it had been caused by a pen. Sara was withdrawn from school less than three weeks later.

From the Guardian

Harriet42 · 15/10/2024 17:29

When you report such matters as a teacher, you have no means of feedback as to what actions have been taken. This is all in the name of confidentiality.
Something needs to change in our society. We are failing our children on a desperate level.

But how could that have been the end of it. Surely removing a child from school after being reported to SS should be a major red flag requiring thorough and swift investigation including the home being searched. I'm very private and dislike unnecessary government intervention, but I would welcome SS having the power to search homes if there had been multiple reports or a report from a professional like teacher, GP etc.

Jukeboxjive · 15/10/2024 17:31

But reporting bruises and immediate withdrawal should have been red flags immediately surley??

Just when you think you have read it the worst thing something like that this comes along.

I honesty don't know why as a society we should be paying for these people to live in prisons and pay money like baby p mum to have them come back out together the community.

It's really done think for such cases we need to the death penalty.

Ie specialist prisons and for Arthur's killers snd Daniel and baby p where are they get extra harsh punishment.

Jukeboxjive · 15/10/2024 17:33

@DalRiata totally agree.

It's mind blowing how still, with all the power or the Internet etc and sharing information instantly these things repeatedly fall through the cracks.

Of course social services should have followed that up. But my post was answering the several posters who seem to think that the school and the teachers did nothing.

The moment that Sara was removed from the school, the teaching staff were helpless, and social services should have been round to the house to check on her.

Jukeboxjive · 15/10/2024 17:46

The teacher "questions" batoul again should teachers question a possibly abusive parent? Is that their remit or perhaps time to called the police.

The NHS has a massive investment so that there is a centralised system. All notes etc about a patient on one system.

No such funding for SS. Many different systems are used. If it’s the case that a child has moved from another area for example, notes SHOULD be transferred between authorities but it doesn’t always happen quickly enough. Information sharing between different agencies doesn’t happen like it should.

Peonies007 · 15/10/2024 17:47

I live a few streets away. She was spotted with bruises at school at several occassions as far as a year prior. I presume SS was notified by a school as she was 'known to the services'. She started wearing hijab, presumably to cover bruises and then she was deregistered from school in April.
Obviously this should have raised numerous concerns (previous bruises, hijab, possible arranged marriage etc).
Surrey CC are quite thorough with EHE process (we home educate), but would seem the SS didn't investigate the concerns.
It happened during school holiday, so she wouldn't have been at school anyway.
Poor girl.

Jukeboxjive · 15/10/2024 17:47

3 times in all few weeks they saw bruises the child could not explain.

Police surely?? If you see two people beating each other up in the street do you call the police or refer them somewhere.

Any educator should call the police
