Pizza Hut Buffet

Posting here to hopefully get some quick answers.

So I will be going to Pizza Hut for the buffet, at the weekend with my child for one of her friend's parties.
There's a few of us going, and I've had a look online and at weekends it is 15.99 per adult and 10.99 for children !
I am absolutely not going to eat 15.99 worth of pizza! And I doubt my child will eat £11 worth.
Would I be unreasonable to just pay for my child and maybe have a slice of pizza or 2?
I know they charge different per head to stop this. But how do they police this ??
It's not a huge deal, but I would definitely like to know before I go, and like to know if other people do this or not ?
Thanks !

I think just don't go for the buffet if you don't want to eat that much. Order something off the menu for the two of you to share. Buffets are designed to be "all you can eat", they are a rip off if you don't want much!

I don't see the problem OP. The party is for the children so not all adults will want to eat. If your daughter had the buffet option and picked 5 slices of pizza but her eyes were too big for her belly and she only ate 4 then you'd eat the 5th rather than it going in the bin surely? Same thing.

It's not.

But it's not £15.99 for two slices of pizza, the money is paying for the rental, upkeep of the property, staff wages to make food and clean up, the cutlery, the tables and chairs, menus, marketing, insurance, electricity, WiFi and all the hundreds of other things. That's how eating out works!

When you want to get political with it, yes. But there's no breakdown of this on the menu is there ? Because the average person doesn't think of all of these things factored into the price tag of their meal, when eating out

Get the kid the buffet and just order something small for yourself. A personal pizza, or whatever else they do now.
You don't want to get shamed for pinching food off your children's plate in pizza hut. If you can't afford a kids meal plus a small meal of your own then you should just get a drink and let the kids enjoy the food. It's not like pizza hut pizzas are that great.

AllHisCaterpillarFriends · 14/10/2024 18:30

If this is Pizza Hut HQ drumming up business then it has worked. I want a pizza hut!

I know the definition of stealing very well and this definitely is not it. So what's your definition. Because it is stealing in mine

tonyhawks23 · 14/10/2024 18:30

The average person knows pizza doesn't magic up.theres huge costs involved and if everyone cheated the system they'd go bankrupt and the rest of us who likes it there would be very sad.

Steal pizza ?? Jesus Christ 😂

Taking something you haven’t paid for is stealing
It’s charged per person, not per amount of food. You won’t have paid for yourself to eat it, so you haven’t paid.
Unbelievable you can’t see that it is stealing

Could you just buy the buffet food then take home slices you don't eat? That way you might not feel so ripped off?

It’s all you can eat, not all you can fit in your handbag.

OP the buffet type places are only usually good value if you’re a hungry person who can eat loads. If you’re going to only eat a bit, don’t do the buffet. Might be worth suggesting to the group, if there are several small kids, that you order a few pizzas between you instead?

Well that's what I'd have thought, but according to most on here that's an absolutely ludicrous thought, and I'm a cheeky criminal for even thinking of it.

But they’re not even charging you £15.99 for a couple of slices of pizza. The price is for “eat as much as you like”. Why are you making it a commercial business’s fault that you don’t want to eat that much?

tonyhawks23 · 14/10/2024 18:31

Also you can just order of the menu, just choose something small/different than the buffet, there's no need to have the buffet!

@dreamer24

I genuinely doubt they will give leftover boxes to people doing the buffet!

They do. We have before.
No way would an all you can eat buffet give you boxes to take food home.

That would put them out of business. 1 person goes in and eats and then takes home enough 'leftovers' to feed their whole family.

That's not how all you can eat works

IAKnowyou · 14/10/2024 18:32

@LittleMousewithcloggson I think you'd have a heart attack if I told you that I have scanned 2 cards as one in Tesco before 🫣

Speak to the other adults attending and pick 3 pizzas, order them in medium size and everyone share. Will probably work out cheaper and if there is any left over you can take it home.

OP some of the comments on this post are wild 🤣🤣 of course it’s not stealing!! People getting unreasonably annoyed by a simple question.
I know the definition of stealing very well and this definitely is not it.
So in the OP’s example, she would pay for her child to eat then would eat a slice or two from her child’s plate…. Unless I’m mistaken?
she would’ve already paid for that pizza so who would she be stealing it from? would it also be stealing if she paid only for her child, her child could only eat half the pizza so OP finished it off?
Come on, let’s not be silly. It may be a flagrant disregard for the rules of Pizza Hut…. But stealing it most certainly is not.

OP I would just buy a pizza to share and bin off the buffet, seems you’ll be getting watched by tons of Pizza Hut spies😳

It is stealing.
She hasn't paid for any actual pizza.
She's paid for her child to access the pizza buffet.
She hasn't paid for herself to access the pizza buffet.
If people could just pay for one person to access the buffet and then all eat from that one person's plate then they'd all be stealing too.

SpiggingBelgium · 14/10/2024 18:18

How do they police this ? Do they have a staff member to watch each table ?? 😆

No - but they will come around and take your order. What are you going to do; sit there whistling and hope the waiter doesn’t notice you and ask what you’re eating? I’m sure most waiting staff are capable of counting how many people are at a table.

Many places allow you to order using the app at the table, which you scan on your phone. Then you go and collect from the buffet. So sometimes there's no interaction with staff required.

tonyhawks23 · 14/10/2024 18:34

The staff give you your bowls/cups etc

Yes, the average person does.

SpiggingBelgium · 14/10/2024 18:34

You think they'd ask everyone to leave?

No; they’d cower in the corner, too embarrassed to say anything, and then post on MN later saying “AIBU to think this woman should have paid?”

🙄🙄🙄

Most places that do buffets have a strict no taking home policy. Haven’t been to Pizza Hut for years, but they always used to say this.

Oh I assure you, they indeed DID give me a box to take home what I couldn't eat 🤷‍♀️
Believe it or don't, it's doesn't affect my day 🤣

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 14/10/2024 18:34

Of course you can’t just eat “a slice or two” of someone else’s paid for buffet, that’s a per head “all you can eat” situation.

They have priced their pizza at what they think an adult will eat and what a child will eat. They think the amount the average adult will eat is worth £15.99, people are paying to, so that’s what it’s worth.

Do you not think that if this was allowed, everyone would do it? “Oh my child/ husband/ friend’s having the buffet but I’ll just have a slice or two” - that’s pizza guy giving away a slice or two for free, unless you imagine your dd or whoever it might be will deliberately eat a slice or two less than they actually want.

Itisjustmyopinion · 14/10/2024 18:35

Why are you bothering with the buffet? If there are only 4 adults and the same number of children or a few more then surely a few large pizzas and some sides would cover everyone?
