Anyone else just wish these xl bullies would disappear?

I know I’m not the only one and don’t think I am being unreasonable tbh but didn’t know where else to post this.

In the past week or so there have been five serious attacks in the UK but what we have plastered all over the news is the police apologising to a deluded xl bully owner, when he’s the one who failed to do as he’s told.
What kind of message does that send?

The other day armed police were called to Stockport because of a dangerous dog and three people were injured. There’s only one little article about it in the Star. When did this ever used to happen in this country? It’s not normal.

I just don’t see why normal, decent people should have to live in fear of these scumbags and their dangerous dogs. Nothing is being done, how can something be banned if there are exemptions?
When the dogs do attack, the owners get months in prison which is the equivalent to a slap on the wrist.

It’s like being in possession of something worse than a loaded gun or a lion. Nobody’s allowed pepper spray though - you can get 4 years in prison just for carrying it apparently.
If they at least increased the jail time maybe that would deter people from owning these dangerous dogs.

@JazzyJelly You're probably right, but they are very intelligent and obedient dogs

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 14:41

(I guess not that time though)

HidingHereForTomorrow · 14/10/2024 14:43

What I find pathetic about the ‘It’s the dog, not the owner’ issue is how they ignore the dogs instincts that have been bred into them. A collie pup will herd, a pointer pup will point from 3 months old, a greyhound will run down small prey.. which is why they are often muzzled, not through aggression. Although there will always be exceptions to the breed. Yet suddenly XLs behaviours who have been bred from blood sport dogs are given the out of it being the owners fault. I’m not talking about Staffies, or American bulldogs. Just these XLs that have appeared in the last 10 years, and if you don’t know the pedigree of your dog, then more fool you.

HidingHereForTomorrow · 14/10/2024 14:45

It’s the owner not the dog 🙄

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 14:46

I don't care for staffie's either. They scare me. I only once or twice got close up to one, and one of those times I got a soft bite. I felt like it wanted to eat me

Clarovo · 14/10/2024 14:51

This is getting boring (explaining to halfwits not the discussing of the problem).

XL BULLIES SHOULDN'T EXIST!!!!!!

They are derived from Pitbulls.

Pitbulls were banned in the 90s

Therefore XL bullies exist because of illegal breeding.

THEY ONLY EXIST BECAUSE OF ILLEGAL PRACTICE.

Therefore they should all be at least neutered but preferably culled.

We are all getting sick of hearing about children, adults and animals being mauled and killed by these monsters and we shouldn't have to be hearing about it because they SHOULDN'T FUCKING EXIST!!!!!

All you people who have bought one, regardless of how soppy you think Jaws is, have contributed to the problem of illegal breeding of dangerous dogs. Well done, 5 stars to you.

You are incredibly rude. It is possible to commincate with class to get your point across rather than attacking someone who clearly loves their dog.

well when someone makes stupid claims I will call it out if it offends then so be it

I have no issue at all calling someone stupid who owns an xl bully especially when they have children (maybe adult child, one hopes) and claim to have done lots of research beforehand

and point proved over and over again about how stupid people are in regards to dangerous dogs by a number of posters on here

the real issue is very soon another family shall be grieving due to one of these dogs mauling a family member to death, the parents may have been stupid enough to have one as a pet or it could be the responsible owner or the neighbour or a stranger walking down the road. The point is another child or adult will die very soon because a stupid person thought their xl bully wouldn't attack and kill but they do and at an alarming rate

and yes there are other breeds that have killed too I feel them same about those breeds to but this breed is particularly strong and too often vicious just why put others at risk its selfish and stupid

We can't just kill them though

itwasnevermine · 14/10/2024 14:55

@ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName they're little more than weapons though. Clearly the current laws aren't working so stronger ones need to be introduced

For another post, it seems that the children are aged three, eight and 14.

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 14:57

I agree but they are living beings too

Of course it isn't. 🙄🙄🙄

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 15:02

It would be ideal if the government would rehome them with professional trainers or something till they die out

horseHorseHorse · 14/10/2024 15:03

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 14:54

Of course we can.

HidingHereForTomorrow · 14/10/2024 15:03

I agree that they are, but they should not have been bred to begin with, and then they were imported to the UK, see ‘Killer Kimbo’. I dare say that if one of your family members were mauled (Heaven forbid) you would change your mind.

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 15:03

I saw a big cane corso though at the park and it was just as scary. No muzzle. It's head was massive. I was running, but I walked past that dog very slowly

HidingHereForTomorrow · 14/10/2024 15:04

horseHorseHorse · 14/10/2024 15:02

I was trying to correct my mishap in the first sentence of my post.

Just put them all to sleep, why prolong the misery

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 15:08

It's a complicated ethical problem, but there's no "Just" about it in killing an animal like a cat or a dog

HRTQueen · 14/10/2024 15:08

Of course the government can order all to be pts

of course some will be hidden and continue to breed and people will fight against it but at times governments need to take drastic actions

will vets want to comply maybe a number will not want to but if paid well enough I am sure some will change their mind

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 15:10

Maybe going forward people should need a license to breed dogs

horseHorseHorse · 14/10/2024 15:11

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 15:08

It's a complicated ethical problem, but there's no "Just" about it in killing an animal like a cat or a dog

And yet we kill thousands of animals every day. Including dogs and cats.

I'm fully on the side of if the dog that came after me and my pony had got me on the floor I'd have been badly hurt if not killed. As it was, my pony's boots were badly damaged and a huge chunk out of his tail.

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 14/10/2024 15:13

I don't agree with killing animals at all, @horseHorseHorse but cats and dogs are more sentient than cattle and birds, and it isn't fair to kill a living being "Just in case" It does need handled better though, we can't have these maulings and deaths continuing

makes me shudder to think about this

Sharontheodopolodous · 14/10/2024 15:21

I work in retail and have got to know a lot of people (I love chatting!)

I have one lady who comes in with her 3 kids (aged 8/5/3) and she has 3 of these dogs (she takes them regularly to the park to meet up with other owners)

She swears up and down that they are 'soppy, loves kids and its the owner, not the dog'

She leaves the kids alone with them all the time while she's off cooking or going for a pee

Nice lady but thick as mince-its only a matter of time before she has two kids

Or even worse-none
