To ask if you believe in time slips?

I'm on the fence about woo things, however I do like reading stories.

There are lots of stories about time slip experiences, with the most well known being Bold Street, Liverpool. The stories I find interesting are when more than one person (from the 'present' time) sees the 'past' at the same time. In that case it can't be a hallucination - they're either both colluding liars or they really did see 'something'.

Has anyone had any such experiences? I suppose if such a thing exists, we could 'slip' an hour or a day into the past and not even realise.

Something I've never seen explained about out-of-body experiences: your "soul" or whatever detaches from your physical body, so you can look down and observe yourself sleeping. Some have reported flying around hospitals, describing what they saw in other rooms. A few say they travelled far outside the place where they were sleeping and have described the things they saw.

So how are they seeing these things? Their eyes are in their body, which is still in bed, and visual perceptions are processed by the brain - also still in bed.

@Starbright885, I think your friend's dad was bullshitting her. Dads do that 😀

@Garlicbest Ooooh yeah, Astral Projection. That's a whole other thread! 😄

I literally just finished an ebook about the Bold Street time slip!!

No. They make for interesting stories though.

Yes.

I don't think we understand anywhere near as much about time and the universe as we like to think we do.

This. A lot of people here stating it’s rubbish but then a hundred years ago imagine explaining everything we have now. If we are able to manipulate time in future then why would this not be possible? Doesn’t take much of a understanding of physics to understand it’s not impossible.

I think it's much more possible that humans will be able to fully change sex than we'll, be able to manipulate time. Outside of our miniscule planet we can't really influence the universe at all.

@Biggirlnow what was story called?

I can't remember! It was was in a book of short stories I read 30 years ago but it's stayed with me! I wish I knew!

User14March · 13/10/2024 14:53

@Cityandmakeup physicists have said, I believe, it may be possible theoretically, to go forward in time but not backwards.

As someone with an MSc in Physics... No. It's bonkers.

ginasevern · 13/10/2024 15:59

I've had several incidents that could be perceived as a time slip but I know they really aren't. When I was around 14 years old I went for a Sunday drive with my mum and dad. After driving through countryside for some while we found a ruined Roman villa. It wasn't fenced off and there was no ticket booth, in fact it was deserted. We got out and had a good look around. Over the ensuing years we talked about the villa and tried to find it again. We never did, even though we retraced our steps and knew the area quite well.

On another occasion in a fairly well known castle in Northern Italy my mother and I were spell bound by a particular fresco. We talked about it over the years and, when we returned 10 years later, we made a beeline for that room but there was no painting - not even a trace of it. As it was a fresco it would be pretty hard to remove without leaving some evidence. We asked the custodians of the castle who had been there for 30 odd years and they had no knowledge of what we described.

I believe these are examples of collective "misremembering" (for want of a better word). On each occasion we had created a false history. Now, I firmly believe the Roman villa and the Italian fresco existed. They were not figments of our imaginations! But we saw them in different places and not on the days we thought we'd seen them - if that makes sense. Although I would have sworn under oath otherwise. The brain is far more complex than we know.

only due to our current understanding, there are many things in the galaxies we are yet to understand and study, As Quark can confirm

exactly, try to explain air planes, wifi, talking machines or computers, and various other inventions, they would say its the devil etc

Re: Titanic disaster, not a ‘time slip’, but some very odd ‘final destination’ type fates befell some surviving passengers.

Hi, can you expand?

User14March · 13/10/2024 18:25

@Squirrel01 true, although backwards time travel almost impossible for reasons given upthread.

@Andylion will do my best.

3hrMax · 13/10/2024 19:50

Worth flagging, though, that those survivors who subsequently had "untimely deaths" were only about 8-9% of the total survivors and includes a lot of suicides (so possibly attributable to PTSD or similar) as well as some wartime deaths and deaths from illnesses that were bigger killers back then, so I don't think there's anything "Final Destination" about it.

Firefly1987 · 13/10/2024 19:53

CurlewKate · 13/10/2024 07:07

@Firefly1987 "I wish it was true along with fairies, angels etc. but I think this planet is far too boring for anything like that to be possible. The mundane is all we have"

The mundane? Music, literature, art, rainbows, daffodils, giant sequoia, waterfalls, love, poetry, Mount Fuji, wine, cake, flying, cats, sunsets, whales, elephants, buttered toast, penicillin....., mundane?????

All those things are nice and everything but they're not magical are they. Things like literature and art are often based around fantasy and going into another world. JK Rowling's books wouldn't be all that exciting if they were bound by only what can happen in reality.

User14March · 13/10/2024 20:27

@3hrMax yes, ‘final destination’ poss overblown re: my earlier claim, but a run of unusual bad luck might be a better way of putting it. Beyond bad experience attributable IMO. Will expand when I can.

It is possible that I experienced an audio timeslip when staying at old fisherman’s cottage in a village by the sea . My family were filming a video tour in total silence. There was no one else around.

When we returned home an old man’s voice was talking over the video in a strong regional accent- the words were incomprehensible to our modern ears. It sounded like olde language and he was numbling. We could make out odd words. We all listened to it and couldn’t explain it. Really freaky!

Those saying there is no evidence… well I have mobile phone video evidence of a potential time slip - that a few people have watched and agree it sounds like an audio timeslip (no idea if that is a thing). Everyone can hear the voice as described in my previous post and were really freaked out by it.

But there’s no way I would share the footage outside the family for investigation as it’s not worth the potential hassle/scrutiny. Very few people want to share this kind of stuff for fear of ridicule. There may well be a rational explanation but based on the creepy voice, I would never stay in that house again.

One thing that makes me think there’s something woo going on is the fact that it’s in a very popular holiday spot and it’s not listed on any sites where you can leave reviews. It was quite cheap and they could be charging a lot more.

This is just confirmation bias though. Bad luck is not evenly distributed and everyone in this group of survivors had just as much chance as anyone else of experiencing double bad luck. They may also have had more risk of bad luck associated with their wealth and status.

For example, I’ve never flown in a helicopter or private plane because I’m not rich, but these modes of air travel are significantly more risky compared to jumbo jets. Same goes for rich people pursuits I can’t afford to participate in (skiing, horse riding etc).

Andylion · 13/10/2024 21:30

@3hrMax @User14March I see. Thanks. I had to google the “final destination” thing.

I don't personally subscribe to any "woo" stuff but, even if that was a supernatural occurrence, it doesn't sound like a time slip.

Interesting… what is the definition of a time slip? I thought it was two time periods crossing over? So we heard a snapshot of a man talking for a few seconds from the past?

Not that I’m convinced that is what it was. I heard it but can’t explain it.

It generally refers to a someone travelling backwards (or forwards) in time, so that they find themselves in the same place but during a different time period. Yours sounds more like a ghost story, or "stone tapes".

GellerYeller · 13/10/2024 21:52

We were in Liverpool in the summer, and saw loads of mods and people in very dressy 60s’ gear as we left Slater Street, heading onto Bold Street. So many that warranted comment. I assumed there was a convention or event of some kind. It was a Sunday lunchtime. Have we been in a time slip and not realised?!!
To clarify, I’ve no belief in these things really!
