To go to a rave at 40...

Just that really, I've been invited to a rave with some old friends from university. I'm thinking I'm just going to look like an absolute tool arent I?

Part of me is really excited - I've not been to one since my 20s and it's so far out of my usual weekend plans but heck, you only live once right?

Aibu to go, is it a young person's game or can I still enjoy some good psytrance and a dance at 40?

I bet you won’t be the oldest by a long way!

Go and have the most amazing time! 💃🕺💃 (no raver emojis)

Littleme2023 · 11/10/2024 19:16

DO IT!!!!!!!

Begsthequestion · 11/10/2024 19:17

I guarantee you won't be the only over 40 there! And you'll be with people your age. And if it's psytrance then there'll likely be a comfy chill out room for when you oldies are done dancing 😁

Ponoka7 · 11/10/2024 19:17

Of course you can still enjoy it. You haven't got long before peri menopause hits, make the most of these years.

UserNameOfShame · 11/10/2024 19:18

I didn't even know raves were still a thing!
Go for it OP no one will notice or care about your age I'm sure.

Steppered · 11/10/2024 19:18

Plenty of us old skool ravers still raving, get out and do it! We out-rave the youngsters!

SallyWD · 11/10/2024 19:19

My brother goes to raves and he's nearly 50. He's nowhere near the oldest. You have to remember that rave music exploded in the early 90s. There are many ravers around that are now in their 40s and 50s.

DaveWatts · 11/10/2024 19:19

God I'd love to go to a psytrance rave, and I'm 41 - only thing stopping me is that I'm 8 months pregnant, otherwise I'd be right there with you 😆

SquatWeightaMinute · 11/10/2024 19:20

I’m 38 and go raving a few times a year. I am far from the oldest there so you will be fine. Have a great time!

Squigglewigglediggle · 11/10/2024 19:21

Agh thank you, you've all made me feel slightly less ridiculous about going! I hadn't really considered the old skool raver crowd now being closer to my age!

I'm definitely going to give it a go! Hope the community rave feel is still what I remember it to be.

My friend is currently at Sasha and Digweed @Roundhouse.

I joined him at one of their gigs earlier this year. We walked back to the hotel while the sun was coming up.

I'm older than you.

Do it. Do it. Do it.

Lovemusic82 · 11/10/2024 19:25

I have a friend in his 50’s that goes to raves….most of the people there are over 40, we grow up going to raves, young people aren’t as interested. Go and enjoy yourself.

Grepes · 11/10/2024 19:25

I thought raves were mostly over 40s these days!!

UmbrellaEllaEllaElla · 11/10/2024 19:26

Why wouldn't you go? You're 40 - not dead!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 11/10/2024 19:26

Can I come? I'm almost 50 Grin

malificent7 · 11/10/2024 19:27

Im off to dance to some techno tonight...age 46 and perimenopausal!

I know the organisers and djs are pretty youthful still so in y head I just assumed a younger crowd. What everyone has said totally makes sense and I'm feeling a lot less self conscious.

Compared with clubs, raves tend to have a much more varied crowd. Old school ravers are a different breed in the best possible way and I assure you will be respected by the younger ones simply for being there.

EngineStartStop · 11/10/2024 19:34

You won’t be the oldest by a long chalk. In fact, a wide range of people and a general acceptance of everyone is one of the great plus points of rave culture.

TheDandyLion · 11/10/2024 19:35

Give over, the best ravers are usually the over 40s. They did it properly first time round back in the late 1900s 😂, they know how to party.

MoodEnhancer · 11/10/2024 19:40

I’m older than you and going raving in a few weeks - with a group of friends who are all older than me. Don’t worry, there are loads of us old skool ravers out there!

Are those in peri not allowed in?? Or is it something else that stops you going due to peri? I need to know!

Monvelo · 11/10/2024 19:44

Amazing! I'm jealous! Last time I went to something I swore I'd book.the physio in advance next time though 😂

Bit jealous, I love Sacha's music. Never seen him play though (that I remember 😁)

You'll have a great time OP! But the "supplements" are shite nowadays
