To go to a rave at 40...

Just that really, I've been invited to a rave with some old friends from university. I'm thinking I'm just going to look like an absolute tool arent I?

Part of me is really excited - I've not been to one since my 20s and it's so far out of my usual weekend plans but heck, you only live once right?

Aibu to go, is it a young person's game or can I still enjoy some good psytrance and a dance at 40?

I’m going here soon and CAN NOT WAIT!
Last time I went I’d say most are mid 40’s+
The atmosphere was amazing 😄

That looks amazing fun. Sadly it's too far for me to travel.

I really wanna find some people going to this! There's going to be 5,000 of us aged-ravers there, most of us with our adult kids... I'm taking my 23yr old daughter! 🤣

Ooooh...my friend lives near Milton Keynes. I'm up at his that weekend. It looks rather interesting...

AutumnalCosiness · 12/10/2024 17:34

How is this even a question?

I went to The Sanctuary for New Years eve one year, best night I had (other than Ministry of Sound at the Dome) even if the music wasn't always to my taste that night.

I did New Years at the Sanctuary once and even though we were there around 9 pm we didn't get until after midnight due to chaotic ticketing and the New Years at the Dome it flooded 😅

Wouldn't of missed it though

As they say: 'You don't stop raving when you get old, you get old because you stop raving.'

Ah, so that’s my problem.

Ha! Love this think it might be my problem. Couldn't listen to rave music for years because it made me feel so gutted not to be raving. Best times

Well as I said above I'm 59 and of course I've got less energy and the odd health concern but you made it sound like menopause was the END , it definitely isn't!

It can be the end of shagging without Lube and not as often as you used to. It's the end if drinking like you used to. It's the end of not feeling a all-nighter. So if anyone is thinking should I? yes, you should, because you aren't promised tomorrow.

PeachyKeane · 12/10/2024 19:13

Went to this last year, was absolutely brilliant. Danced from 4pm until 2am ( I am 54) got tickets for this year's event. Loads of people my age there all having a brilliant time.

To go to a rave at 40...
Disturbia81 · 13/10/2024 18:01

@Ponoka7 I've always shagged with lube and been hungover for days after a night out, so nothing has changed so far 😆

ShinyPebble32 · 12/11/2024 16:02

Just came across this thread, how did your night out go OP? Hope you had a good one!

If anyone is up for turning this thread into a Mumsnet ravers chat then I’d be up for it! 😃

I’m 40 next year and still going out as much as possible, always looking for new raving mates as they are getting rarer at this age! I went to Defected in Malta this year and it was magical, planning to do the Croatia one next year. House music all life long!

PeachyKeane · 12/11/2024 16:06

I'm an old original raver. 54 now so there at the birth. Used to be the Hacienda, now there's a once a year reunion which is in Manchester in December and is fab. Also love my festivals although haven't ventured abroad for one yet as still have school age children.

TwistedWonder · 12/11/2024 16:08

I’m 58 - me and my friends are regular ravers though it’s much more of a day rave culture nowadays.

At 40 you’d be at the younger end of the spectrum - there plenty in their 60’s still going strong

TizerorFizz · 12/11/2024 16:12

So did you all go to the Tony Hayter events?

RMNandthensome · 12/11/2024 17:02

HornyHornersPinger · 11/10/2024 20:40

Is it 1 of the Sanctuary Forever events on the 2nd and 9th of November? If so I'm going to the 1st one on the 2nd and I've just turned 44... 😄

I went to the Sanctuary Forever reunion on the 2nd too, brilliant time, everyone was well in their older years, average age 40-60 years.

Fab time, go for it and have a rave up, always a better atmosphere than any club ive ever been too also.

Can one if you crazy ravers explain what you actually mean my raving. Does it have to be chaotic hedonism in a field or a warehouse? Or are you going somewhere with 10 quid entry, a stamp on your hand and aircon. I need to know what I am missing out on.

I was never brave/flush/quite old enough to go to an actual "Rave" but think of the act of going to any music venue, having a few glasses of Dutch courage then dancing till my feet give in as "raving" Grin. I use the word in a depreciating kind of way

Crushed23 · 14/11/2025 20:30

Resurrecting this thread to hear about your latest raves!

I went to a festival in Orlando last weekend which had an amazing line-up. Flew home Monday and still very much recovering 😅

MoodEnhancer · 16/11/2025 12:04

Oooh, I see this thread was resurrected a couple of days ago. Yesterday, 5 friends and I - all in our mid to late 40s - went to a day rave at Fabric. Loads of D’n’B djs from the 90s so most of the people were our age. It was such a happy crowd! We danced all day! And it all finished by 10pm, so we could get home at a reasonable time. Perfect.

Raves are for 40-50 somethings :)

Onefortheroad25 · 16/11/2025 12:09

Go!
DH & I went to one in the middle of the night at a festival a couple of years ago. We are mid 40’s. Best fun we’d had in years. Still talk about it. We would be into our music and particularly love 90’s dance music. Can’t wait to go to another one. Enjoy!

HelpMeGetThrough · 16/11/2025 12:14

Anyone remember the Men Behaving Badly episode where they went to a rave? 🤣

You need to behave like that OP!!

heartofsunshine · 16/11/2025 12:20

I went to a rave in the summer and I am 50, and disabled. Loads of oldies there and the young did not mind a jot. I was complimented on my trainers endlessly and even given a cheese and pickle sandwich at 2am when I was flagging (by a well prepared young woman with a back pack).
It was the best night in years and I am back for more on NYE.
Just do what you want, live your life, it's short, you're here, now, go and take it.

ilovepixie · 16/11/2025 12:55

My partner and I did the big clubs in Ibiza in 2019. He was 56 1 was 51. We didn’t look or feel out of place. Go for it. Music has no boundaries. It’s just all people whatever age, size, colour enjoying the beat.

BluntAzureDreamer · 16/11/2025 13:09

Ah I'm so late to this thread, but yes yes YES, do it! I'm 46 now, I had an amazing time in the 90s and 00s and still absolutely live for the tunes. Clubbing is such a mixed crowd, everyone there for the music, you'll be fine. Sidenote - I remember when I used to go out in the 90s there was always that one 'old' guy on the dancefloor.. makes me laugh to think these guys were probably about 40 and I'm now 'that' person 🤣 although they were an anomaly then, now most people at any decent night are int heir 40s because we did it all first time round 🙌🏼

StrawberrySquash · 16/11/2025 13:11

Raving's basically the Charleston these days. The young people are all at home knitting.

BluntAzureDreamer · 16/11/2025 13:11

I think we need a Mumsnet ravers subgroup - LOVE how many of us there are! And I thought Mumsnet was all middle class tweed and pearls 😜😂

FatalCattraction · 16/11/2025 13:15

@OfcourseitsaNCWow, that takes me back to my youth, saw the both back in the day but not together. I don’t know a soul who would go with me though. 🙁
