To go to a rave at 40...

Just that really, I've been invited to a rave with some old friends from university. I'm thinking I'm just going to look like an absolute tool arent I?

Part of me is really excited - I've not been to one since my 20s and it's so far out of my usual weekend plans but heck, you only live once right?

Aibu to go, is it a young person's game or can I still enjoy some good psytrance and a dance at 40?

Do it!!! I'm 41 and still go. Young at heart. Enjoy! X

19lottie82 · 11/10/2024 20:01

I’m going an “I love acid” night next weekend and I fully expect it to be mainly over 30s (I’m 42 btw)

BobbyBiscuits · 11/10/2024 20:16

I doubt anyone at a psytrance rave would accuse you of looking like a tool! Make sure you brush up on your fire poi technique. And find some clothing with mushrooms printed on it?
I've seen people from two to eighty at outdoor trance raves/festivals before so just enjoy it. It's not really a very poseur type scene at all.

KendraTheVampyrSlayer · 11/10/2024 20:25

I went to Cream Classics 5 years ago (at 41), and again last year at 45. I fucking loved it! 💃

teatimefortiger · 11/10/2024 20:37

Go! I'm jealous!

Motherrr · 11/10/2024 20:39

Do it and fuck what anyone else thinks! God im 37 and love a rave and its scaring me that you think 40 is too old as that will be me soon! Just go for it and enjoyyyy

HornyHornersPinger · 11/10/2024 20:40

Is it 1 of the Sanctuary Forever events on the 2nd and 9th of November? If so I'm going to the 1st one on the 2nd and I've just turned 44... 😄

stanleypops66 · 11/10/2024 21:32

Do it. I've been to Ibiza closing parties and I'm over 40.

Lunabetty · 11/10/2024 21:47

Go and enjoy yourself !!

Time40 · 11/10/2024 22:05

Do it. (If it's an all-nighter, be prepared for very sore feet the day after ... I find the painful feet are the only bad thing about raving over 40.)

19lottie82 · 11/10/2024 22:17

A photo I took of my mates at an outdoor rave in the summer, Im 42 and they are 44, 45 and 52! We all Love clubbing and wouldn’t even think twice about it?

UserNameOfShame · 11/10/2024 19:18

I didn't even know raves were still a thing!
Go for it OP no one will notice or care about your age I'm sure.

You make menopause sound like a death sentence! 😳

Justalittlenaughty · 11/10/2024 22:20

Ponoka7 · 11/10/2024 19:17

Of course you can still enjoy it. You haven't got long before peri menopause hits, make the most of these years.

Quoted wrong comment! 🫣

You make menopause sound like a death ☠️ sentence!!

Ponoka7 · 11/10/2024 23:38

Begsthequestion · 11/10/2024 19:41

Are those in peri not allowed in?? Or is it something else that stops you going due to peri? I need to know!

Most women find that their energy drops, their tolerance for alcohol gets less. A lot of women are knacked, hormonal, anxious and feel like shit. I'd always say get your drinking and shagging in, because things do change after the menopause.

Lizzie67384 · 11/10/2024 23:45

I’m in my 30s and love going to raves! I find they’re super inclusive and no one cares about anyone else 🤣 there’s people raving in their 60s, so you definitely won’t be one of the oldest! Also, who cares? You’re a long time dead as they say, so go and enjoy your life!

Spectre8 · 11/10/2024 23:48

Alot of the trance crowd is mixed ages actually you will be surprised they are more around your age. I know I'm one of them and go. It's a great crowd and you'll have a ton of fun.

We are all.clesry stillving out our 90s days of clubbing 😆 but it's great and I have so much fun

Bit jealous, I love Sacha's music. Never seen him play though (that I remember 😁)

You'll have a great time OP! But the "supplements" are shite nowadays

Sasha played the most unbelievable set on Hastings Pier back in May this year. There was only about 200 of us there, so he really upped his game to keep our attention. Easily one of the best sets I've ever heard him play, including the sets I've listened to online.

Disturbia81 · 12/10/2024 00:15

@Ponoka7 You sound so negative, it's bollocks. Just keep enjoying life OP 🖤

Do it. (If it's an all-nighter, be prepared for very sore feet the day after ... I find the painful feet are the only bad thing about raving over 40.)

It was the sleep routine being broken I found really hard.

I don't normally drink caffeine, so was on the coca cola to keep me awake until the dawn.

It took several days to want to sleep again at bedtime and not need a nap around 3pm.

ncncncncncnchhh · 12/10/2024 00:20

I love dance music. I try and see something each year. Earlier this year it was Carl Cox for the first time. He was a masterclass. I'm 44. I probably do it differently now - day time outdoors events. Very tempted by clubs that start early and finish at 10pm is, there's one I Tottenham I forget the name of. I used to love the Fridge in my teens. I drink zero alcohol and dance sober which feels great.

PeriPeriMam · 12/10/2024 00:20

Oooh definitely take your Zimmer frame, it'll come in handy at 4am when your legs are aching, and you can hang fluorescent stuff off it too.

KlaraSundown · 12/10/2024 00:28

Do it!

Young people mostly can't afford to do this any more, sadly, so you'll be with a relatable crowd...

Jumpingthruhoops · 12/10/2024 00:40

Surely us 40-somethings are the only demographic who are actually 'raving'? By that I mean, I don't think anyone below that age truly knows what it means! I'm 45, and wouldn't think twice about whether to go or not - if there's a dance floor, I'm on it!
As they say: 'You don't stop raving when you get old, you get old because you stop raving.'

Crushed23 · 12/10/2024 00:50

Love this thread - I've found my people 😁

I'm 35 and love raves. They're a re-discovery after coming out of a lacklustre relationship with a man who didn't like techno (I know, what was I thinking...).

I go to a rave on average once every 2 months, which is about right to really enjoy it.

Have fun, OP!

MyKidsAreTooNoisy · 12/10/2024 00:59

Can one if you crazy ravers explain what you actually mean my raving. Does it have to be chaotic hedonism in a field or a warehouse? Or are you going somewhere with 10 quid entry, a stamp on your hand and aircon. I need to know what I am missing out on.
