To go to a rave at 40...

Just that really, I've been invited to a rave with some old friends from university. I'm thinking I'm just going to look like an absolute tool arent I?

Part of me is really excited - I've not been to one since my 20s and it's so far out of my usual weekend plans but heck, you only live once right?

Aibu to go, is it a young person's game or can I still enjoy some good psytrance and a dance at 40?

Can one if you crazy ravers explain what you actually mean my raving. Does it have to be chaotic hedonism in a field or a warehouse? Or are you going somewhere with 10 quid entry, a stamp on your hand and aircon. I need to know what I am missing out on.

Perhaps it means different things to different people.

For my friends and me, it's hedonism in fields and warehouses. Very much about the music / DJs - we care who we go and see.

£10 entry, stamp on hand, etc. sounds like clubbing to me.

Christ go!!! I still run gigs, don't play anymore in fairness, it's easier 😆We're off to my gig tomorrow (Andy Farley, Hard House) now my Thursday - Sunday days are over but a few times a year? Why not

I hope you have a great time

Sasha played the most unbelievable set on Hastings Pier back in May this year. There was only about 200 of us there, so he really upped his game to keep our attention. Easily one of the best sets I've ever heard him play, including the sets I've listened to online.

My OH LOVES Sasha, he travels at least 2x a year to see him & Digweed with his pal, I'm not into it, I prefer Hard House

Also thanks I'll give him a heads up for the online set

Andy Farley is one of my all time faves, I saw him the other week and managed a wiggle down the front

My friend said I could post this pic of The Roundhouse queue last night

Typical Sasha and Digweed gig audience. Not a woman in sight in that queue. The majority crowd is coke fuelled men pilled up. My friend calls the crowd the spaced sausage factory. 🤣

Carabelliana · 12/10/2024 07:10

Go! You'll love it. Age is no barrier. Love an old skool rave :)
Just be prepared to sit down for a rest every now & then! Do report back on what a good time you had x

wulves · 12/10/2024 07:12

As they say: 'You don't stop raving when you get old, you get old because you stop raving.'

Ah, so that’s my problem.

Worldgonecrazy · 12/10/2024 07:16

Dancing is a great way to keep fitness levels up. I’m a bit old for rave music (though do love Trance). I’m off to a ska gig tonight, definitely won’t be the oldest there.

I hope I’m still dancing in my 80s.

Raving back in the day was gling to a club or warehouse dancing to electronic (edm) music which is house, techno dance, trance styles with lights (lasers) and its fairly high energy

Now a days whilst there are still clubs and warehouses its branches into festivals too, but the music style is the same anything that's under the edm genre

You wouldn't say you are going to a rave it it is rnb or drum n bass music

Time4changeagain · 12/10/2024 07:39

I’m going here soon and CAN NOT WAIT!
Last time I went I’d say most are mid 40’s+
The atmosphere was amazing 😄

I'm post menopausal and still love going raving. As someone said, we original children of the rave culture are all in our 50s now. Still avin it large when we get the chance. Great exercise. I don't need drugs now, muscle memory takes over as soon as I hear the music.

Moonshiners · 12/10/2024 07:41

Ponoka7 · 11/10/2024 19:17

Of course you can still enjoy it. You haven't got long before peri menopause hits, make the most of these years.

I'm 50 and still go raving. Peri and all! Love a dance.

JerkintheMerkin · 12/10/2024 07:49

I'm 51 and off to Ally Pally in a couple of weeks to finally dance my heart out to Black Coffee. I'll be too busy on the dance floor to wonder whether a 1 year old or a 100 year old person is there. I'll stop raving when I'm dead. You go and have fun. Seriously no one cares what age you are, just as long as you're appreciating the music and having a great time. House music all night long! 💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾

HouseofHolbein · 12/10/2024 08:00

Husbands friend is 55 and goes all over the place to raves.

We're same age and are mainly hitting metal and rock gigs 🤟🤟 no intention of aging gracefully 🤣🤣

Lucky you!

Had my on this but unfortunately I'm away that weekend climbing a mountain! Maybe I'll listen to Black Coffee on the climb 😁

Tonto2001 · 12/10/2024 08:20

Absolutely NOT

I've just turned 39 and did 4 days camping at Creamfields in August, planning Tomorrowland for my 40th next year and a year full of day and night raves in the lead up.

I absolutely LOVE trance and psytrance and go all out with the outfits too.

Proper raves are still full of the friendly amazing people (of course there are still some of the "influencer" type people but even most of them are just there for a good time).

Go, and have the most amazing time and if you get the bug I'm always on the look out for some rave mates 😂😂

That's so funny & true, same with Hard House actually, always more fellas...

It would be my idea of hell at any age. But I'm not you. You want to go. Go. Life is for living

LlynTegid · 12/10/2024 10:25

You can still enjoy it. Have a lovely time, and as for looking an idiot or awful, just walk down your local high street anyday in the UK and you will see plenty of examples.

Crushed23 · 12/10/2024 11:17

@Scorchio84 Mount Olympus in Greece! Living in London, I find that every time I make travel plans I miss a good rave or two haha.
