Should I phone in sick on Monday

Have a very bad cold, sore throat along with nausea. Went to work today (I work alongside my colleague in nursery kitchen just us two but she’s on holiday gets back to work Weds afternoon) however I felt very bad with my cold, sneezing & felt sick twice as well. I am thinking of phoning in sick on Monday to Weds of next week however I’m not sure if my boss would be ok with that as work colleague is holiday and I’m expected to be in but at the same time I feel very unwell and can’t work in kitchen the way I feel right now. AIBU to think it’s not really my issue and they would have to find someone to cover over the 3 days I be off sick? Or AIBU to actually be off sick for 3 days

Just rest up over the weekend.

KrisAkabusi · 27/09/2024 19:36

Surely it's too soon to decide? Particularly if you're planning on being off up to Wednesday.

Boidont · 27/09/2024 19:36

It’s Friday, I understand giving a heads up about Monday just incase but trying to call off half of next week this far in advance is a piss take

MissEloiseBridgerton · 27/09/2024 19:36

You can't plan sickness! You've 2 days to feel better, you likely will by Monday if it's just a cold. Honestly, this is insane.

GoodEveningMiss · 27/09/2024 19:36

How are you predicting you will still feel so ill mon-weds next week?

SomeKindOfPermanentlyExhaustedPigeon · 27/09/2024 19:37

Good Lord

You have 3 night until Monday morning. You cannot decide now that you will sick on Monday based on a COLD.

Melonportal · 27/09/2024 19:37

How do you know you'll still be ill next week?

Littletreefrog · 27/09/2024 19:37

Why would you decide now? Wait to see how you feel Monday morning.

Hercisback1 · 27/09/2024 19:37

This is crazy. See how you are monday.

Mrsttcno1 · 27/09/2024 19:37

It’s Friday. Spend the weekend in bed, rest, lots of water and snacks. You have no idea how you’ll feel on Monday and certainly no idea of Wednesday.

Pandasnacks · 27/09/2024 19:37

It's Friday, wait and see how you feel Monday, you don't decide now. I hope you feel better soon OP

ML5 · 27/09/2024 19:37

Sorry forgot to add that I was going to wait until Monday but if I still wasn’t up for it & not feeling any better then I would be off for 2-3 days

As others have said how on earth can you know now? Rest over the weekend and hopefully you feel better by Monday. Needing 5 days to get over a cold sounds OTT!

vdbfamily · 27/09/2024 19:38

YABVU to decide on Friday evening what you will feel like on Monday and Tuesday next week!!

NuffSaidSam · 27/09/2024 19:39

It's fine to be off sick for three days, but you can't decide this far in advance.

Give them a heads up about Monday, but then see how you feel. If it's a cold you'll likely feel much better by Monday.

You probably shouldn't have gone in today though.

Not necessarily, it's a cold, if it's still lingering by Monday you will probably feel ok by Tuesday.

GigiAnnna · 27/09/2024 19:40

Just see how you feel Monday, you've got all weekend to feel better. If you woke up with appendicitis Monday morning you wouldn't have been able to give 3 days notice.

How do you know you will need 2 to 3 days off? You may not need any or just need 1 day.

ML5 · 27/09/2024 19:40

It’s more than just a cold it’s sickness as well with it if it was a cold I wouldn’t even be thinking of taking time off for that

Sorry but it's Friday. How can you be planning on calling in sick next week?

I mean, if you're ill then you're ill and yes it's their responsibility to find cover and be resilient. You shouldn't feel guilty for taking the time you need to recover and not spread whatever illness you have, but this sounds like you're taking the piss.

You may well feel fan-dabby-dosey by tomorrow afternoon you have no idea.
If a staff member told me on the Friday that they'd be off sick mon-wed next week I'd assume they were skiving.

When were you last sick? Did you actually go and cook in a nursery kitchen with a sickness bug today?

Thfrog · 27/09/2024 19:41

What? Wait until Monday morning. This sounds like your planning a mini break for the weekend or something

But even sickness usually clears up in 48 hours. You could be fine by Monday and certainly by Wednesday.

You felt sick twice!

What's your sickness history in this job?

Beezknees · 27/09/2024 19:42

How do you know how you'll be feeling by then? Wait and see how you're feeling on Monday!
