Should I phone in sick on Monday

Have a very bad cold, sore throat along with nausea. Went to work today (I work alongside my colleague in nursery kitchen just us two but she’s on holiday gets back to work Weds afternoon) however I felt very bad with my cold, sneezing & felt sick twice as well. I am thinking of phoning in sick on Monday to Weds of next week however I’m not sure if my boss would be ok with that as work colleague is holiday and I’m expected to be in but at the same time I feel very unwell and can’t work in kitchen the way I feel right now. AIBU to think it’s not really my issue and they would have to find someone to cover over the 3 days I be off sick? Or AIBU to actually be off sick for 3 days

You've not actually been sick so it might not be a sickness bug. Just that you feel under the weather. You should be feeling better by Monday. Or are you one of those people who tries to reclaim their weekend if they have been unwell over the weekend?

Good Lord

You have 3 night until Monday morning. You cannot decide now that you will sick on Monday based on a COLD.

How do you know it's a cold? 🙄🙄🙄

Sorry but it's Friday. How can you be planning on calling in sick next week?

I mean, if you're ill then you're ill and yes it's their responsibility to find cover and be resilient. You shouldn't feel guilty for taking the time you need to recover and not spread whatever illness you have, but this sounds like you're taking the piss.

You may well feel fan-dabby-dosey by tomorrow afternoon you have no idea.
If a staff member told me on the Friday that they'd be off sick mon-wed next week I'd assume they were skiving.

I did not say to my boss I would be off next Monday to Wednesday of next week I said if I’m still feeling the way I am now on Monday should I phone in sick

I felt sick twice at work today I’m not trying to extend my weekend

If you still feel sick Monday, call in sick. It's just odd to say it now. Even if you are Monday, you'll likely be grand by Wednesday.

If you are sick Monday don't hesitate to call in. These things happen and you shouldn't be preparing food ill.

Inspireme2 · 27/09/2024 19:44

Rest and take some medicines to combat all those to make you comfortable.
A cold may lighten and relieve by Monday but not always that quickly.
I would contact your boss and let them know they could find a replacement so you can relax forget about work it isnt as important as your health.

Have you thrown up?

Thindog · 27/09/2024 19:46

COVID is rife. Get a test, you probably have it.

UpUpUpU · 27/09/2024 19:46

So you have a cold and felt sick twice? You wait until Monday morning to decide how you feel.
I assume you are an adult and don’t need to ask permission from strangers on the internet to call is sick.

Come on OP. Have a lemsip and an early night and get over yourself.

HamSad · 27/09/2024 19:46

You're taking the piss surely? It's Friday, you've got a cold, you've felt sick not been sick. Come on.

Yes but you might be fine so just wait and see. Are you quite anxious about health generally?

Why do you think you will need 2-3 days as well as Saturday and Sunday?

Like, why would you even imagine needing need five consecutive full days of recovery based on the fact you currently have a cold and slight nausea?

cryinglaughing · 27/09/2024 19:47

How can you know you will be ill from Monday for 3 days? 🤔
Have you got something planned that work is getting in the way of?

lopdoo · 27/09/2024 19:47

Honestly don't understand how posters like this actually function in the real world. I swear my 10 year old has more common sense.

Feeling sick is not always synonymous with vomiting.

Does your work have a policy on working with vomiting? Some places say you can't work 48 hours from your last incidence of vomiting

Pandasnacks · 27/09/2024 19:48

@ML5 yes you said you FELT sick, not that you WERE sick. Why did you stay at work if throwing up? That's just irresponsible to the kids you were cooking for and breaking all food hygiene rules. And you still won't no until Monday if you need to phone in sick or not.

Littletreefrog · 27/09/2024 19:49

Did you feel nauseous or did you actually vomit? They are two entirely different things.

AllTipAndNoIceberg · 27/09/2024 19:49

ML5 · 27/09/2024 19:46

“Felt sick” and “threw up” are not the same!

But if you actually threw up twice while working in a kitchen cooking for nursery children — wtf. Why are you worrying about your potential days off instead of what you might have given those little ones? Wild irresponsibility

Stewandsocks · 27/09/2024 19:51

You absolutely should not have been preparing food if threw up twice.

Did your boss know you vomited or did you tell her you 'felt sick' - as pps have pointed out, that means being nauseous, not actually vomiting, or 'being sick'.

Coconutter24 · 27/09/2024 19:52

I think you’re confusing people because you’re saying you felt sick…. Feeling sick tends to be just that a feeling which is different to actually being sick.

It’s quite bad you were allowed to stay at work and not go home when working in a kitchen in a nursery! So irresponsible on yours and the managers part. Rest up this weekend and see how you feel Sunday night, you might be better after a couple days rest
