Should I phone in sick on Monday

Have a very bad cold, sore throat along with nausea. Went to work today (I work alongside my colleague in nursery kitchen just us two but she’s on holiday gets back to work Weds afternoon) however I felt very bad with my cold, sneezing & felt sick twice as well. I am thinking of phoning in sick on Monday to Weds of next week however I’m not sure if my boss would be ok with that as work colleague is holiday and I’m expected to be in but at the same time I feel very unwell and can’t work in kitchen the way I feel right now. AIBU to think it’s not really my issue and they would have to find someone to cover over the 3 days I be off sick? Or AIBU to actually be off sick for 3 days

As you work with children I would advise staying at home until you are over your illness. To my mind some people leaving messages are not sympathetic. I reckon some time off would be better for you as you don't seem to be very well at the moment. You might pass your bug onto other staff and the children. I am sure no one you work with wants that to happen. I send you Get well wishes.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 27/09/2024 20:58

Why would you plan to be sick for three days?

You sound incompetent and need to grow up.

Take some pills and rest and go to work on Monday. Jeez.

DryBiscuit · 27/09/2024 20:58

Its FRIDAY!

Lloki · 27/09/2024 21:00

This is a bizarre thread. How do you know you are going to be sick from Mon-Wed next week on Friday evening?

mynameiscalypso · 27/09/2024 21:01

Am I reading this right? You prepared food for babies and toddlers and were throwing up at the same time. If I was a parent, I'd be absolutely furious about how reckless you have been.

DryBiscuit · 27/09/2024 21:01

Its not sickness !!!!

You ‘felt’ sick twice

You still have the whole weekend to get better
Decide on MONDAY Morning like a normal human !

Hayley1256 · 27/09/2024 21:02

This sounds like your trying to skive Mon- Wed off. Its not about AYBU. If your too sick to work on Monday ring in sick - it can't be helped. If your still sick on Tuesday then ring in sick again etc.

Piss-taking laziness

No you didn't read it properly. She said she "felt sick" twice. Honestly. Pathetic!!

Pandasnacks · 27/09/2024 21:07

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy don't you look silly.

MayaPinion · 27/09/2024 21:08

Sure, you’ll be fine by Monday. Couple of Lemsips if you’re still feeling rough.

When I said I felt sick I meant actually being sick so sorry about confusion
If I was to phone in Monday (if I am not well still mainly cos of sickness) AIBU for that knowing my work colleague is away

Not if you are genuinely unwell on Monday. I expect that the nausea / vomiting will have passed by Monday, so you might be fine. You’ll have to make the call on Monday morning.

She later clarified she has been sick

No you didn't read it properly. She said she "felt sick" twice. Honestly. Pathetic!!

She then posted an update to say by ‘felt sick’ she meant she was sick

mynameiscalypso · 27/09/2024 21:12

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy No, she then changed it to actually being sick.

Mum2jenny · 27/09/2024 21:13

Worry about it next week, you may feel fine by Monday.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 27/09/2024 21:18

You have a cold, it’s the weekend so high chance you will be much better by then. At most at this stage you may be thinking about whether you can go in Monday not sure why you at this stage are thinking you won’t make it until Thursday.

It’s more than just a cold it’s sickness as well with it if it was a cold I wouldn’t even be thinking of taking time off for that

Op, I had these symptoms and tested positive for Covid today. The nausea and sickness are totally new additions to my previous experiences of Covid! It’s miserable. I’m sorry you’re feeling unwell. Flowers

Delphiniumandlupins · 27/09/2024 21:21

If you have actually vomited then you should be off work for 48 hours afterwards. If you have felt sick but not thrown up you can be at work when you feel able. My colds normally last 3 days so I would expect to be much better by Monday. Also, even if you're still unwell on Monday you may be able to work on Tuesday and/or Wednesday.

ML5 · 27/09/2024 19:37

Sorry forgot to add that I was going to wait until Monday but if I still wasn’t up for it & not feeling any better then I would be off for 2-3 days

No, it still sounds like you're 'booking' your sickness.

You'll probably be well enough to work by Monday.

Maraa · 27/09/2024 21:23

I’ve been bed bound Wednesday and Thursday this week, horrendous, tested positive for covid and it’s knocked me for six, tonight I’m sat up feeling fresh as a Daisy drinking wine. Lord can change in two days

Fescue · 27/09/2024 21:24

Yes. I know you want to.

Swissvisa · 27/09/2024 21:25

You’ve got 3 nights to go yet. If you’re feeling really rough today then you’re probably peaking and will feel better by Monday. If not then of course, but seems a bit pre mediated to be thinking about calling in sick Monday - Wednesday already, thats 3-5 days away!

Jingleballs2 · 27/09/2024 21:28

Did your boss know you were sick today? You shouldn't be working with food if you're throwing up!

However.. it sounds like you have covid. But wait and see what you are Luke on Sunday at least before calling in sick
