Not my parcel so why my problem?

Knock on my door 2 days ago and a man with a large parcel told me he was a resident of a nearby street. He said the parcel had been delivered to him in error.

As I wasn't expecting anything I checked the address and it was for a neighbour 2 doors away. I told the man it wasn't mine and he said he had tried numerous times to deliver it to neighbour and he was never in. He'd put a note through the door and no one had called him and he could no longer store the large parcel.

When I asked why he was knocking on my door he said I lived nearer so I should take it. Like a fool, I did. I think I was so gob smacked I didn't react sensibly.

I have also tried to deliver it and put a note through his letterbox - I do know neighbour by sight and he has been at home as car has come and gone.

I'm also fed up of large parcel in my hallway so I'm thinking of passing it onto another neighbour. What do you think? 😀

Can you RTS it?

W0tnow · 21/09/2024 15:59

Leave it on his doorstep!

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 21/09/2024 16:00

Yep wait until you see his car put it on the doorstep

llamali · 21/09/2024 16:00

Why on earth did you accept it? I don't understand why you'd do that? Does the neighbour have a hedge you could throw it into?

Or on his car

Good shout

SpiggingBelgium · 21/09/2024 16:02

Bin it.

cocobeaner · 21/09/2024 16:02

Stick the box on his doorstep and get on with your life. If there was any record of it being delivered then it wasn't delivered to you anyway. If he was bothered he'd have come round before now.

Itiswhysofew · 21/09/2024 16:03

Leave it on his doorstep when you know he's in, then holler through his letterbox.

StarSlinger · 21/09/2024 16:03

Take it round when his car is there?

LittleGreenDragons · 21/09/2024 16:03

llamali · 21/09/2024 16:01

Or on his car

Preferably behind his car so he runs it over. But I'm petty like that 😈

CocoapuffPuff · 21/09/2024 16:03

Leave it on his doorstep when he's in and walk away. Unless it's too heavy and bulky for you to move. In that case, bang on his door and tell him to come get it or you'll be contacting the sender to get it collected by their courier.

Blast an airhorn through the letterbox

thursdaymurderclub · 21/09/2024 16:05

you would think whoever ordered said parcel would be missing it by now.. i agree as above, pop it on his doorstep and leave it.. if it gets wet or nicked then so be it.

my DH is a pain in the arse for taking in parcels (ex postie and can't help himself) does my nut in cos all the regular drivers now know if they can't deliver, old victor meldrew at 53 is happy to take them in!

Aquacitra · 21/09/2024 16:05

I'd put it on his doorstep when I was sure he was at home and just leave it.

Ooh yes. Just to keep it dry put it right under his car behind the wheel

hopeishere · 21/09/2024 16:06

Leave it on the doorstep

AD12345 · 21/09/2024 16:06

Another one for put it on bonnet of his car

Ihatethegrufflalo · 21/09/2024 16:07

Keep it. If he eventually turns up say you assumed he didn't want it so RTS it.

Bayern · 21/09/2024 16:11

Or...
Leave it on your own doorstep and put a note through his door to say it is no longer your responsibility if someone else takes it. See how quickly he appears.

Bananamanlovesyou · 21/09/2024 16:12

Any idea what is in it?

Smartiepants79 · 21/09/2024 16:19

Just put it outside his house!🏡
I don’t understand why you wouldn't just take it round if you know he’s there?

Olika · 21/09/2024 16:20

I would hate having it on my hallway so when I see the neighbour's car home I would just leave it outside his door and ring his bell. If he then doesn't take it in (and gets stolen or wet) that's on him. I am not a post office.

UrsulaBelle · 21/09/2024 16:21

I guess it depends how heavy it is?

GeraniumJenny · 21/09/2024 16:23

Tape his door ringer up so it constantly rings and leave the parcel on his doorstep.
