Get her in a talent agency, that way if she doesn’t get one of the major roles she might get more chances.

My daughter was submitted by her agency (she's new to the agency and hasn't ever been cast in anything) and we've just had a self-tape request come through the agency. Given non-agent applicants are submitting self-tapes directly not sure if this is a "good" sign or anything. Anyone else similar?

I submitted my 10 year old daughter, however she had hermione coloured long hair and bright blue eyes plus hermione's accent so I doubt she will get called as she's too close to the original hermione!

I agree with them casting on merit, I know about the play and had no problem with it. Why would I. Its only that the comment I originally responded to sounded like they were saying the producers already had a fixed idea that they didn't want a white Hermione, or they didn't want all three child leads to be white. Which seems wrong to me.
Bridgerton didn't cast on merit alone, the actors are all fantastic but that programme definitely started out with a fixed agenda to be different and create an alternate reality of Georgian England, and it works and is none the worse for not being historically accurate.

What is "merit" here?

Of course they will want children who can speak clearly and act, but there will be thousands of them. Plus, if they wanted the most proven child actors, they wouldn't run an open casting.

Which means they are looking for a type or a feel, for some kind of fit, which is the opposite of merit.

That said, I totally can imagine half white half Korean/Japanese Harry. Dark hair and a potential for a properly modern emo look for the later series.

I would be very surprised if the 3 leads were all white. I think they are looking for a more diverse casting

Hi all, found this thread from googling. What is a self tape request? I’ve submitted my kid’s tapes on the Cast It site but not up on the lingo. He has no acting experience but looks the part and likes HP so seemed like a bit of fun!

@Shinytaps there is the open call (for which you did and submitted self tapes) and the children who are represented by agents who submitted them. Some of them were asked for self tapes, but something different to the open call self tape. So two different routes which I'm sure will converge at some point!

Self tapes are just the videos you tape yourself at home!

I'm assuming they'll be several rounds- I wonder if they'll filter as they go, or wait til the closing date to start looking at them all and deciding.

But why? It's a British book and Britian is something like 82% white isn't it? And back in the 80s when the stories were supposed to be set it must have been more like 92% white.

But it isn't set in 90's Britain is it? It's set in a fantasy world or witches and wizards.

Hasn't JK Rowling said that she didn't mention the colour of Hermione's skin in any of the books?

She doesn’t directly refer to it but mentions her being pale in a few scenes and having a white face in one book (as in white with shock I think). She’s also described as being brown after a holiday. I would imagine they’ll go for a diverse casting of the main trio and not choose 3 white actors

Does anyone with any experience know how and when they're likely to make contact with people that they're interested in - dd is quite interested in the 'behind the scenes' process of this so thought I would ask as I have no clue!

I read the site was having issues but people are submitting successfully still. People having better luck with laptop rather than phone. Also check file size and that the file name isn't too long. Good luck!

Separately any word re callbacks? My daughter was submitted via her agency and we got a self tape request but nothing since. Wondering if anyone's got beyond that yet or if too early?

I’m really struggling - it won’t let me submit video without being a Pro member? It says it’s the open call link but I feel like it’s the wrong one. So frustrating! Not something I’ve ever done before.

I’ve seen people have had issues with this today.
