But yeah they did supposed open castings for the films back in the day.. but the parts all went to upper middle class kids already in drama groups. And Daniel Radcliffe was already a professional actor and his mum worked in casting so...

Tbf i think Ron was from a normal background and had answered a casting call on cbbc.

They did also do the open casting calls for Luna and Cho and picked two unknown girls who had turned up.

Daniel Radcliffe it does seem got there with a touch of nepotism though!

It will be very odd to watch when they do produce it. Some of the actors in the films were just so right.
Alan Rickman as Snape. Maggie Smith as McGonagall. Robbie Coltrane as Hagrid. They were just so right.

Alan Rickman was amazing but I’d love to see age-accurate actors for Snape, Lupin, Sirius. In the books they are supposed to be in their 30s throughout. Harry’s parents are supposed to only be 21 in the flashbacks as well. Yet they used considerably older actors for all of them.

I really hope without the constraint of fitting it all into 8 films they are able to be as true to the books as possible.

My daughter spent time preparing her audition videos and I submitted them on Cast It website but then it said after a 1 month free trial there would be a charge to continue so was it just a scam to get people to sign up to agencies?

I think your tape will be sent just fine but I don’t know if they will watch all of them. It wouldn’t surprise me if they did what they did with the films- open casting calls and then choose an already established actor.

LetsPlayShadowlands · 11/09/2024 22:04

Not sure why anyone would want their kids thrust into global fame and scrutiny tbh. I love HP, and to kids who love HP this is very exciting. But they're not old enough to k ow what they're getting themselves into.

He had worked with Maggie Smith

I think it's great, though my DS10 won't be trying for it.

I read there will be a movie on Britney Spears and I think that should have an open casting call too.

You’d think her story would put any parent off putting their kid forward for fame!

If you look up Daniel Radcliffe on Wikipedia it explains, I read it earlier but can't remember the details other than apparently the parents were reluctant at first

My 9 year old DD is going for this and is very excited. I have had to dampen her enthusiasm slightly by explaining just how many people will be applying! I think it would be grim if she was picked to be honest - I really wouldn’t want all the attention!

I’m the same with mine! Actually wouldn’t want it! All the attention, the lives changing forever. We don’t even live near London so no idea how it would even work. I really doubt she would get anywhere anyway, chances are soooo tiny.

It won’t matter what colour her hair is.

It doesn't even matter what sex ahe is so I can't see why hair colour would matter

LetItGoHome · 16/09/2024 14:11

I would love to hear how many applicants they get! But I'm sure we will not hear anything until the cast is revealed next year. Unless selected for more auditions of course.
This process would be brilliant for a fly on the wall documentary series 😆

I don't think it charges you on an ongoing basis does it? I paid for the one off submission but don't recall seeing anything about a subscription? Have I missed that?

WetBandits · 16/09/2024 22:00

Ooh, perhaps I’ll apply when they open casting for Dobby Grin

Oor · 16/09/2024 23:32

My daughter now has a casting through her agent for it. She’s very excited by it. I’m very much hoping we don’t get a recall- I think it’s waaaaay too much.

sunflowerdaisyrose · 16/09/2024 23:39

Mine got a self tape request via agent (I'd written it off as saw loads had been asked last week) so one very tiny step forward but obviously not seeing it as anything realistic!).

When I told the eldest she said she'd prefer a smaller part as didn't want to give up the next 10 years of her life! But then said of course she'll do the tape so can't be totally against it.

cadburyegg · 16/09/2024 23:45

My ds1 fits the age criteria and loves acting but there's no way he'd do it - he's too anxious and highly strung. Ds2 is too young which is a shame!

As an aside, I'm looking forward to eventually seeing the show - I wasn't really a fan of the movies.

I didn't pay anything at all. It is free to submit an open casting call. The charge was if you want the other benefits such as searching for jobs. I just registered for a free account. I can log in and can see my account and the 2 audition tapes I submitted. I just can't use the other parts of the site.

Dancingqueen2023 · 17/09/2024 08:06

DS is just old enough next year and wants to have a go. We've warned him he probably won't get very far but he wants to have a go for the experience. He has very green eyes in the right colour clothes and messy hair when long so he's hoping that helps 🤣

What have I done then? I thought I signed up for a free account too?

I very much doubt they’d cast 3 white leads but if any of them are they won’t care what colour hair they have.

But why? It's a British book and Britian is something like 82% white isn't it? And back in the 80s when the stories were supposed to be set it must have been more like 92% white.

During the process it gave me the option of paying to open up paid member benefits. I just clicked on past that bit and signed up for the free basic login which allows you to submit through the open casting link.

They must be making a fortune if some are paying 🙈😮

The London Harry potter theatre production, Hermione is a black girl. She is fantastic in it. J K Rowling publicly gave her support for the casting. They will likely cast on merit, rather than the colour of skin. Rightly so!

Look at Bridgerton casting. Their cast is amazing. They certainly didn't stick to the book.

Because that’s not how casting works and it will be watched by British children now. Diverse casting casts a wider net for talent, and means that new audiences will engage with it without feeling like it doesn’t represent them. But I’m sure you know all this and are just being goady for no particular reason.
