Mine is a white bread bap, butter, salt, vinegar, chips and ketchup. All sorts of rubbish being spouted in my office earlier about salad cream, beans, toasted brioche! How do you do it?

Yanbu- your way is the way
Yabu- there's another way ( enlighten me )

Toasted bap, chips, salt and vinager, curry sauce. The only way

Eylis · 02/09/2024 21:05

Same. But sometimes tartar sauce if I'm feeling wild.

Ihateslugs · 02/09/2024 21:05

Same as you but don’t add ketchup, might have some to dip extra chips in! Also have been known to put the chips in a bread roll if I’m feeling fancy!

Edit to add that I’ve just spotted that you use a bread roll, I prefer plain white sliced bread, Warburtons Toastie is my go to choice.

Circe32 · 02/09/2024 21:05

The only thing I disagree with is "bap" - it's "roll"
Anything else is heresy...

CurlyhairedAssassin · 02/09/2024 21:06

Never had one in a bap or any sort of bread roll. Always 2 slices of bread, buttered, lots of salt. That's all. No off piste novelty crap.

ghostyslovesheets · 02/09/2024 21:06

White sliced bread, salted butter, salt and mayo

Lovemusic82 · 02/09/2024 21:07

White bread, chips, salt, vinegar and cheese. Mayo or ketchup depending on what mood I’m in.

5foot5 · 02/09/2024 21:07

No baps. Just put the chips between two slices of buttered bread. Ketchup recommended, but optional.

Doggymummar · 02/09/2024 21:07

Same as you make a fish finger Sammie

Procrastinates · 02/09/2024 21:07

Cheap white bread, crap tons of butter, chips, salt and dipped in curry sauce.

Also in the it's a roll not a bap camp but appreciate that such comments will start a war. 😂

dutysuite · 02/09/2024 21:10

I don’t like them but my husband gets a slice of white Warburtons medium sliced unbuttered bread, stuffs salt and vinegar chips on top slathers it will ketchup then folds it in half. Eat and repeat.

Warburton's toastie makes a lush chip buttie with plenty of butter. I do like a bit of ketchup though.

SENlife · 02/09/2024 21:14

Off piste here. Warburtons toastie 2 slices, buttered, peas, gravy and chips with extra gravy to dip 🤤🤤

YellowGuido · 02/09/2024 21:26

Had the most amazing chip butties over the summer - chunky slices of white bloomer bread, proper butter, chippy chips with salt and vinegar, scraps, ketchup and mayonnaise. Heaven.

It’s a cob!! 😁😁

DaisyChain505 · 02/09/2024 21:27

A buttered bap with chips that have salt and vinegar on with a slice of plastic cheese and curry sauce.

Singleandproud · 02/09/2024 21:28

2 x slices of Warburton's toastie, lurpak, chips, salt and vinegar, ketchup same as for a fish finger sandwich.

username44416 · 02/09/2024 21:28

Two slices of buttered white bread, black pepper, mayonnaise, sprinkle of salt and chips.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 02/09/2024 21:29

Ok it’s a bun (or barm where I live now but I can’t get on board with that) and I agree that Warburtons white bread is better but you’re basically correct! Oh and it must be real butter.

cardibach · 02/09/2024 21:30

2 slices of white bread thickly buttered, salt, vinegar. No sauce.

notacooldad · 02/09/2024 21:31

I've not had a chip butty in years!!!
I used to white bread, butter and chippy chips.

Actually it's a batch!😂

AdviceNeeded2024 · 02/09/2024 21:31

Now I dislike white bread on most occasions, but a beautifully crafted chip butty calls for white bread. Preferable Warburtons toastie thick sliced 😋

Take the bread, slather in butter. Clover or Lurpack if I’m particularly flush. Drown the chips in vinegar on the baking tray, a good dusting of ground rock salt then place on the bread warm to really melt the butter. Ketchup on the side for dipping. If I don’t end up with melted butter down my forearms it’s a failed meal.

Zoflorabore · 02/09/2024 21:31

It’s a barm in Liverpool but hey ho!

mine is white sliced bread, proper butter. Loads of salt and vinegar. Nothing more, nothing less.
