Mine is a white bread bap, butter, salt, vinegar, chips and ketchup. All sorts of rubbish being spouted in my office earlier about salad cream, beans, toasted brioche! How do you do it?

Yanbu- your way is the way
Yabu- there's another way ( enlighten me )

Chips made from real potatoes deep fried in lard. White plain bread and lots of butter🥰🥰

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 03/09/2024 20:12

I haven't had a chip butty in a looong time. If I was going to make one it'd be 2 slices of thick white bread... chips and ketchup. That's it. Simple.

No butter 🤢 No vinegar 🤢 No salt 🤢

white bread bap
chip shop chips
Flora spread thick
big pool red sauce on side to dip

Makingchocolatecake · 03/09/2024 21:47

Any white bread, butter, ketchup, and maybe S/V if I feel like it.

DebateWithMoi · 03/09/2024 23:50

The ultimate is Warburtons white toastie, lurpak, chips lines up in a row, salt, vinegar, sauce of your choice, usually tomato or tartare, fold in half. If I'm feeling crazy I add no sauce to the bread and dip it in a pot of curry.

Two slices of bread buttered, add your chips topped with your sauce and water ever seasoning you like, close and eat!

boredborednot · 04/09/2024 00:08

I have never had a chip buttie…shall put it on my bucket list 😂

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 04/09/2024 00:21

2 slices of white bloomer, thickly buttered, salt. No vinegar as vinegar is the devils’ own work.

WithnailOnTour · 04/09/2024 00:24

It’s a barm cake, not a bap. Obvs.

You mean breadcake Wink

UnpropitiousNightmares · 04/09/2024 01:12

Pretty much the same as you OP.

A large soft white bap or a large crusty roll, butter, hot chips, salt and vinegar with Tomato Ketchup on the side.. 😋

I am genuinely shocked at the amount of people on this thread who have never had a chip butty! You’re all missing out please try it!

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/09/2024 08:50

Rubbery, thick white bread, thick butter so it melts and runs down your fingers, which you then lick off, and a sprinkle of salt.

MrsGusset · 04/09/2024 09:35

I'm a traditionalist so - cheap white bread buttered so thickly you can see toothmarks when taking a bite. Piping hot chips and a good sprinkling of salt. Perfect.

But if I'm feeling a bit bold & frisky I soak the top piece of bread in Worcester Sauce which, in my opinion, is the only sauce fit to go anywhere near a chip butty. None of this vinegar or ketchup nonsense.
