To ask how you make a chip butty?

Mine is a white bread bap, butter, salt, vinegar, chips and ketchup. All sorts of rubbish being spouted in my office earlier about salad cream, beans, toasted brioche! How do you do it?

Barmston are better than sliced bread they hold together better.
Barm lots of butter black pepper, proper chips ( I still have a chip pan ) sometimes a bit of mayo but nothing else .

Brioche is a hard no. The only acceptable alternative to thickly sliced white bread is a lightly warmed pitta. Chips can’t escape see.

At school on the 80s. We used to go to the chippy across the road and get a chip butty - chips in a floury bap. I only ever had salt on mine but the bap was buttered. 60p if I remember correctly. We used to take them to school, open a fire exit and sit on the flat roof of one of the blocks to eat them.

I’ve never had a chip butty since I left school.

It’s nice if you add a few secret squares of CDM to that, salt, vinegar and all. Honestly.

Is this made with crisps or chips? I could maybe tolerate crisps and mayo but the idea of chips in a sandwich or roll sounds disgusting.

just white sliced, ketchup and chips, though a bap instead would be OK, but butter and ketchup together is just wrong

The very softest white bread roll, lashings of butter. Salt and vinegar on the chips and then a layer of mushy peas. Hungry now!

White bread, preferably from an unsliced loaf but sliced will do. Lots of butter, salt and vinegar on the chips and HP sauce! Though HP doesn’t seem to taste as nice as it used to. Hate tomato ketchup,

Same as you but chipshop gravy instead of ketchup if it’s chip sop chips

Two slices of bread, with chip shop chips in. Obviously the chips have salt and vinegar on.

Chips in breadcake are fine, but not a chip butty. Ketchup has no place on chip shop chips (mushy peas are fine), and French fries are not correct for a chip butty.

Cheesy chip cobs are just 🤤. Only if I can be arsed to throw it under the grill or air fryer til it gets a bit melty crispy though. Otherwise it's just lots of salt and vinegar, I can't bear ketchup so that would ruin it for me.

Chip butty: 1 slice white bread, thickly buttered! Chips, salted & vinegared , loaded in and then fold over slice and take a delicious buttery bite! Sometimes I'll put ketchup, mayo and a drizzle of HP but usually that's for the 2nd butty. 1st one is savoured in the pure form! 😋

But I take your chip butty & raise you: a fried egg sandwich!

TWO slices of thickly buttered white bread, hot fried egg - set white, slightly runny yolk! Salt & pepper to taste, smidge of ketchup & drizzle of HP.

Cut into triangles and dig in!

One slice of warburtons toastie bread
Loadsa proper butter so it drips off as the hot chips go on
Chippy chips with loadsa salt and vinegar
Fold the bread in half

Oh now we're talking - fried egg, runny yolk salt n pepper between two slices of bread and proper butter 😋
