What's to explain?

It's BBC PIDGIN.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 28/08/2024 21:25

You've got the language set to pidgin.

Skye109 · 28/08/2024 21:29

Oh! Wow. Didn't even know that it was a setting option.
Thanks!

It isn’t a setting option per se, BBC Pidgin is the World News Service’s West African site.

Berga · 28/08/2024 21:30

I can explain it to you. It's written in pidgin English, which is understood by millions of people. You have chosen to access the pidgin English version of this article and you do not understand it. You would be better accessing an English version of the article.

AlwaysKindaKnewYoudBeTheDeathOfMe · 28/08/2024 21:32

I absolutely love that you were quietly seething about the state of British journalism 😁

It's still readable though anyway.

Biffbaff · 28/08/2024 21:38

cupcaske123 · 28/08/2024 21:40

Thank you OP, I had no idea. I’m absolutely thrilled having read that.

HyggeTygge · 28/08/2024 21:50

Sorry OP but this is hilarious.
Reminds me of people writing to the papers to complain about over-the-top TV narration when they have their Audio Description accidentally switched on Grin

ncgfryhfdg · 28/08/2024 21:50

I kinda like the pidgin talk!

Abitlosttoday · 28/08/2024 21:51

I think I actually prefer this version of BBC News!

LittleGreenDragons · 28/08/2024 21:54

I had no idea this existed. How would you even access it if you didn't?

Tattletail · 28/08/2024 21:57

Oh so that's pidgin English! I honestly thought my mum had made up the phrase to bereate my enunciation with 😆

Overtheatlantic · 28/08/2024 21:59

I don’t understand.

Sarah2891 · 28/08/2024 22:00

I can't stop laughing!

I'd never seen that on the BBC before either OP.

SwedishEdith · 28/08/2024 22:00

This is brilliant. I didn't even know you could change the language like that - never needed to look.

Gagaandgag · 28/08/2024 22:04

Now I’m hooked!

MrsPostmanPat · 28/08/2024 22:05

I thought it was 'pigeon English' soooo..... 🤷‍♀️
