Is that poo poo story not the plot for the opening episode of Colin from Accounts?

Think it's been around 6 or 7 years now?

I have to read it in a weird accent in my head, in order to understand it 😁

I seem to be reading it in the voice of Nana from Bluey when she reads Bandit's old letter he wrote when he was five (in one of the mini episodes). 😂Compounded when I read the Oasis article referencing Noel's 'Broda'.

I'd heard the phrase 'Pidgen English' before, but never really knew what it meant - seems fascinating and very useful.

Bluey Minisodes, Episode 4 | Letter

Nana reads an old story that Bandit wrote when he was five.

This is brilliant. 😃I LOVE reading this! Smile

In Meet Joe Black, I think Brad Pitt is speaking Jamaican Patois. It's a different language to Pidgin English.

Ah I did wonder. It did sound Caribbean like. Thank you!

Namechange8463 · 28/08/2024 22:31

As an aside, when I first read the title, I thought you were going to be complaining about the blatant bias in BBC reporting, but I did wonder how that applied to Mariah Carey's sad news...

LittleGreenDragons · 28/08/2024 22:33

@Another2Cats thank you for that very informative post.

More than 75 million people are thought to speak the language, either as their primary or secondary tongue.

Whoah 😮

Demonhunter · 28/08/2024 22:34

This is absolutely the only way I'm reading BBC news from now on! It's like the news and a word puzzle all on one! Now this is what should replace those annoying adverts for "whats your brain age"

HappierTimesAhead · 28/08/2024 22:35

This is the best description of the Oasis bust up that I have ever seen:

Di band officially scata for 2009 afta kasala burst for one Paris festival.
Noel tok say during argument, Liam bin try nack am wit guitar.

God that's hilarious 😂 😂

HauntedBungalow · 28/08/2024 22:39

God the BBC is great isn't it lads.

Rollercoaster1920 · 28/08/2024 22:39

I knew BBC pidgin existed. But it did come up on my Google news feed recently which is weird, and wasn't immediately obvious.

I suspect some SEO or algorithm gone wrong recommending it to people it shouldn't.

So lay off the OP a bit people!

🤣🤣

I had no idea this was a thing either! I can't help but become Patrick Trueman in my head whilst reading it... despite knowing he's not African 🤦‍♀️

Tulipvase · 28/08/2024 22:18

Have you seen the cookies bit at the bottom?
‘No Cari me go settings’

That has tickled me.

Is this the same as the old lady in the hospital in Meet Joe Black? Or is that something else?

Yes the same. I know a few people who speak it and they speak fast. I do sometimes struggle to keep up. And then they say words I've never heard and I take an age to catch on what they mean.

HappierTimesAhead · 28/08/2024 22:42

The stuff you learn on mumsnet!

Mojodojocasahous · 28/08/2024 22:46

290 MILLION POUNDS , a grant from the government to translate these languages on the BBC.

Not sure it seems so funny now.

Blink282 · 28/08/2024 22:58

This happened to me too yesterday, with the same story, after i googled “mariah news”- it just comes up on google search results as bbc.com and I was also so confused till i realised! (And have now wasted half of today reading more :D)

AdviceNeeded2024 · 28/08/2024 23:00

What is the meaning/translation of ‘Tok’ struggling with that word!

Fiddlemetimbers · 28/08/2024 23:00

Oh, wow. I didn't know that version of BBC news existed. That's brilliant. Coming from a culturally diverse area with a large number of people who speak the lingo I can not only understand it but can hear it in my head as it would be spoken. I heard my neighbours voice, from when I was little, in my head.

"Soft power" is the idea of spending money on things that will make other countries like and respect yours. (Heaven knows the UK needs that...)
