Really weird stuff people do that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Someone I know puts hotel TV remotes in plastic bags before using them, because she once heard a standup comedian talking about men wanking on them while watching porn.

WTAF?

What weird things do people you know do that make absolutely no sense at all? Anything as odd as that?

I wouldn't call that weird, it's well known that hotel remotes are often filthy. Many people either clean them or use covers

PrimitivePerson · 18/08/2024 17:17

Well, unless you're planning on licking them, I don't see what the problem is.

Oh this is going to go well... 😑

GreenPoppy · 18/08/2024 17:19

I'm not a germ freak but TV remotes in hotels are the most repulsive things, second only to the carpet.

GalileoHumpkins · 18/08/2024 17:19

There are videos on IG of people who take a whole load of cleaning supplies to hotels and deep clean the room/bathroom. Bonkers behaviour, and I say that as someone who lives in a very clean house.

StarryDance · 18/08/2024 17:20

I never give this stuff a second thought until I read it on MN.

Teanbiscuits33 · 18/08/2024 17:21

Some people won’t use hotel kettles as apparently people piss in them or worse. Don’t know how true but it wouldn’t surprise me 😂

BobbyBiscuits · 18/08/2024 17:21

My mum eats her dinner with her knife upside down. I'm not sure if it's BC her eyesight is crap or if she's always done it?!

Someone I know told me they voted reform.

I have a family member who's a multimillionaire, but still chose to rip me and two of his best friends off for tens of thousands of pounds?! (In total, for me it was about 1k)

Thank you! As far as I'm concerned, life is FAR too short to worry about this stuff. I'm currently staying in a very nice hotel, and as I'm not planning on eating the remote, I don't see what the problem is.

I wouldn’t say that behaviour makes no sense. It may not be something you would do (and it isn’t something I would do) but the reason they’re doing it does make sense. Hotel TV remotes carry lots of germs and they don’t want to get those germs on their own hands. Perfectly sensible, if a little obsessive.

theywenttoseainasievetheydid · 18/08/2024 17:21

I know someone who dilutes squash and leaves in a spare bottle in the kitchen to be used because it ‘saves time’ ……
i have been known to cover the radio remote in the kitchen with a plastic bag to keep it clean but my daughter objected

PaperBee · 18/08/2024 17:22

I am not the most clean and tidy person but I did just stay in a premier inn and while almost everything else seemed clean, I was revolted by the tv remote and washed my hands after touching it!

That makes sense, though, kitchens can get messy and stuff can get spilt.

I think the squash idea is sensible! We used to make a jug of squash and leave in the fridge so people can just pour from it. Why is that weird? 😂

What on earth are you doing with it? Using to mix batter or something?

Well, we all know how many hours it takes to make a glass of squash! 😂

😲 Does the blade not stick in her hand and cut it

Imtryingnottoworry · 18/08/2024 17:26

I must live a very sheltered life - I'd never ever given the hygiene of remote controls a thought!
Having said that I'm not a great tv watcher and don't stay in hotels much so I've probably not put my health in much danger by not knowing they are sources of disgusting germs!

TadpolesInPool · 18/08/2024 17:27

Ugh my mum uses to make up squash in a jug in the summer to keep in the fridge for me. I hated it because it tasted 'stale' with some kind of sediment at the bottom. I preferred making it fresh with cold water from the fridge....

Thing is, germs on your fingers generally don't do any harm at all unless you stick them in your mouth, or eat without washing your hands or something. If you observe normal hygiene precautions, what's the problem?

This. I can't do anything about the carpet, but I never use the remote. I avoid it. Watch stuff on my phone.

@Asherrain I think it was the ‘saves time’ that got me…
@EffortlesslyInelegant I just thought it might be a good idea to keep it clean but clearly a step too far

My neighbour goes out and moves his car 10 feet every single time someone has the audacity to have parked outside his gate - as soon as they depart, he’s out - even if it’s pissing down! Why?

redalex261 · 18/08/2024 17:35

I pass scrambled egg mix through a sieve before cooking it so there’s no white flecky bits in the finished product. (bleurgh!) Been told by everyone this is very weird.
