Really weird stuff people do that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Someone I know puts hotel TV remotes in plastic bags before using them, because she once heard a standup comedian talking about men wanking on them while watching porn.

WTAF?

What weird things do people you know do that make absolutely no sense at all? Anything as odd as that?

My sil doesn’t have a kitchen bin!!

Instead she has a carrier bag hooked over a cupboard handle, fills it and then takes it to the bin, why that’s preferable to having even a small bin is beyond me.

I must admit that I used to do this too. I had a dog that would turn a bin over and go through the rubbish, but couldn't reach the bag I had suspended on a cupboard handle.

My mum switches the oven off at the wall - the big red switch that switches the electric supply to the oven.

In her defence, it relates to something from decades ago and she knows it’s superfluous, but she still does it.

I do this every evening Grin

I do this I thought everyone does

Oh god - you two need to form an OCD support group with my mother 😂

Three. I do it too. I turn the microwave and oven off at the wall so that there are no red lights winking away in the kitchen at night. It's not OCD, it's just habit.

See a practical reason like that I can understand, but there’s no reason like that for it.

Me too. I have read that it's safer to do this, especially overnight.

MattSmithsBowTie · 18/08/2024 18:24

I think it’s ok to do odd things like put a remote in a bag as long as you realise it’s a bit odd (does sleeping in the hotel bed not bother her?) it’s when people do odd things but don’t realise it, like a friend of mine won’t let you dry your hands on a tea towel, apparently they’re only for dishes, so you’re supposed to walk from the kitchen to the loo to wash your hands if you’re cooking 🙄

TorroFerney · 18/08/2024 18:24

PrimitivePerson · 18/08/2024 17:51

Yup. Can't say I've ever done that.

ive never washed meat and also never washed any fruit or vegetable or salad item ever. Cannot see the point. Will knock soil off if there is a bit in there but to be honest supermarket stuff doesn’t tend to have much on. Also eat raw carrots without peeling them.

also find having a washing up bowl very weird. They are really small and the actual sink is perfectly adequate and designed for washing up.

But what if it bursts into flames during the night 😰

I have a washing up bowl. My sink doesn't hold water otherwise. No dishwasher so I wash all my dishes by hand, but the sink plug lets water trickle out and there's nothing left by the time I get to the last bowl.

ClaudineMallory · 18/08/2024 18:26

I wash fruit and vegetables, even more carefully after my small niece got e coli from unwashed veg.

Durdledore · 18/08/2024 18:26

This isn’t turning stuff off at the wall, which of course makes sense for energy use purposes; this is a big red, hard to pull down, switch. It’s an Aga Mate so no blinking lights etc.

Longlazyday · 18/08/2024 18:26

Turning electrical gadgets off rather than leave on standby- advised by brother, fire-fighter. He said he’s been called out to fires started by items left on standby.

Some people won’t use hotel kettles as apparently people piss in them or worse. Don’t know how true but it wouldn’t surprise me 😂

Well I don't go that far, but I do boil a full kettles worth, empty it, rinse it then boil again for my cuppa. I'd never trust a kettle!

cunoyerjudowel · 18/08/2024 18:28

I really don't understand the thought behind so much stuff but I am neuro diverse and find so much confusing :-/

Recreational drug use- the exploitation involved in the supply of drugs and the horrific effect on your health.

Attending diet clubs run by overweight people - to be weighed in public and advised by someone clearly not following the instructions.

Those who post cryptic attention seeking posts about their love life who are over the age of 15, despairing one day and devoting their life to him the next.

People who get absorbed by anger and seek revenge, I am very much cut people off and then I am done.

Reading the same book twice - but I can watch a film over and over

Watching sports but not training / competing yourself,

I remember a friend of mine washed her knickers in one on a residential school trip. I didn’t learn a thing on the trip other than people are gross.

I pass scrambled egg mix through a sieve before cooking it so there’s no white flecky bits in the finished product. (bleurgh!) Been told by everyone this is very weird.

I know what you mean! I use a spoon to fish them out along with any blood bits 🤮

Maddy70 · 18/08/2024 18:36

I wipe mine with anti bac befire using

lazyarse123 · 18/08/2024 18:37

We have both a tea towel and hand towel in the kitchen. I never understand when people say they don't. I don't think I have any weird habits. I do switch the microwave off at the wall but that's because we don't use it very often.

Whothefuckdoesthat · 18/08/2024 18:37

Teanbiscuits33 · 18/08/2024 17:57

Yep, I use them without a second thought but went away on a break with a friend once who remarked ‘’Eurgh, you don’t want to use the kettle, do you? Have you heard what people do in them?’’ 🤣

Having worked as a chambermaid in the days when they were still called chambermaids and not Housekeeping staff, people are disgusting.

However, it’s the cups and glasses that would make me shudder to use them, not the kettle.

cookiebee · 18/08/2024 18:39

My dad has always switched everything off at the plug or even unplugged it, I think it comes from his mums mistrust of anything electrical, if I ever stay over il go to switch the spare room lamp on, only to realise he’s unplugged them all. Or get in the electric shower, which only gives out freezing water, then have to get out and realise he’s turned off the isolator switch for it, this can go on for most things, I’m surprised he hasn’t unplugged the bloody fridge 😂

Another was my mum, there were certain radio programmes she didn’t like on radio 2, so I told her other stations she could switch to, then switch back when someone she likes comes on, but she wouldn’t in case she couldn’t remember how to get back to the original station, she had literally been using radios her whole life, but now she wouldn’t dare touch it, so I got them an Alexa, had to explain you need to talk quicker with your request and don’t have to say please and thank you! Alexa kept giving up at their long winded declarations of ‘Alexa, could you please play for me…….’

usernother · 18/08/2024 18:39

I used to do this because my kitchen was so small I had no space for a bin. I actually preferred it, meant I didn't have to occasionally wash a bin.

NetballHoop · 18/08/2024 18:40

Those of you who turn the oven and microwave off at the plug, doesn't it mean you have to reset the clock every day?
