This has just appeared in my news feed and I feel so upset and disillusioned. I was a labour voter, thinking we voted the bad guys out but I'm now really scared about what we've let in...what on earth have we done...? https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/08/17/education-secretary-bridget-phillipson-private-school-tax-r/

Agree, think freedom of speech being eroded

Mothermummymum · 17/08/2024 20:15

If you thought voting labour would rid you of the bad guys then that was your first mistake.

Dufrise · 17/08/2024 20:15

Do people in her position even need facebook pages. All seems a bit infantile. They will attract hateful comments so rather than delete just dont have a page in the first place.

safetyfreak · 17/08/2024 20:15

Yes, they do appear to be censoring free speech.

I voted in Labour but I will take my vote away, as will many others if they go to the extreme left.

DinnaeFashYersel · 17/08/2024 20:15

Whoa lashings of hyperbole there OP

NAndJIsLockingDown · 17/08/2024 20:16

Yep - they're curtailing free speech and denouncing those who didn't vote for them as "far-right thugs".

coastingcoffee · 17/08/2024 20:16

She's removed my comments asking politely what reassurances she is giving to parents who cannot get their children placed into local schools.

I didn't vote Labour. You were warned. There will never be 6500 new teachers. It's all lies.

Jjiillkkf · 17/08/2024 20:17

You were warned.

ladydeedy · 17/08/2024 20:18

Not a subscriber to The Telegraph so cant read it but assume certain comments are being removed. This is not uncommon practice from public pages such as this.

DinnaeFashYersel · 17/08/2024 20:18

I don't believe a single one of you voted Labour.

NAndJIsLockingDown · 17/08/2024 20:19

The only saving grace is that they're almost certain to be a one-term government.

In fact I doubt they'll even last that long - I can see Sir Starmer being forced into a snap election in a couple of years time.

pointythings · 17/08/2024 20:19

Meh, Facebook page owners have always had the right to remove their comments. That famous right wing icon Elon Musk does it too. I can't get worked up about this - plenty of other online spaces to discuss education policy, inclusing Mumsnet.

Musk is 1) not an elected representative, and 2) owns the entire fucking site.

It is not a common practice in a democratic world

I hope so. I feel betrayed and so scared

“Social media being used for PR” shock.

Grow up. ‘Government censorship’ 😃

I didn't vote for Elon Musk. I voted for people I thought were honest and had integrity. This is what they told us. They said they were different, better. This is not right.

This happens all the time look on your local MPs Facebook page. It usually says 30 comments but when you look there are about 4 all positive. It's been happening for years.

You're not alone, I saw that Sir Starmer's approval rating has dropped like a stone. And it's not as though he was very popular in the first place.

safetyfreak · 17/08/2024 20:24

gamerchick · 17/08/2024 20:21

Me neither

Pssh, I did vote Labour as I hate the Tories and what they done to this country.

However, I have concerns about immigration and women rights being restricted. I was hoping Labour was more in the middle, but hey seems they want go far left. Good luck with that.

I voted Labour and have zero regrets.
