TW - Upsetting information: XL Bully attack *edited by MNHQ

Another xl bully attack, this time it was in my home town last week.
An xl bully ran out of the house down the road and attacked the nearest dog it saw a little dauchshund ripping both its legs off, it took 4 men and two women to get the xl bully off the other dog. The other little dog is alive thanks to the bravery of other people there at the time , however it had to have both legs ( what was left of them ) amputated.
Its extremely sad. The owner of the dauchshund is an elderly lady who was out walking the little dog ans she is utterly traumatised as expected.
The dog has been seized and owners will be prosecuted we have been told.
The reason I'm posting this is because I feel prosecution and dog being seized hasnt really solved anything has it? What is being done to prevent what happened in the first place? Nothing?? These dogs are still attacking / killing animals and children/ adults
Am I being unreasonable in thinking enough isnt being done to get rid of these hurrendous dogs?????

They should be banned and the people who own them should face serious jail time.

XL Bullies are banned, and owners do face serious jail time.

It doesn't stop it happening though unfortunately, just reduced the likelihood.

blossomismyfriend · 10/08/2024 23:49

Mass euthanasia is the only solution. Anyone refusing to hand the creature over should receive an automatic jail term. If vets refuse to do it, employ a police marksman to do it instead. The wretched things need to go.

Reddog1 · 10/08/2024 23:49

I’m a dog lover but I think that all of these particular dogs should have been humanely euthanised by now.

I know how distressing losing a pet is, I’ve endured it recently with my elderly spaniel. But there are too many risks associated with the breed in question.

dontstopmenowimhavingagoodtime · 10/08/2024 23:51

Where was this?

Thelnebriati · 10/08/2024 23:51

There isn't a central register of dogs, so unfortunately for innocent passers by its only when one of them causes a problem that it will be dealt with.
(If there was a register, only honest dog owners would use it.)

YANBU. And I for one am absolutely terrified of them. That poor little dog and elderly owner - it's just heart-breaking.

And I am so done with the "it's not the breed it's the owner" rhetoric we all get the pleasure of hearing when this topic comes around on some corner of the internet 🙄These particular dogs are something else and absolutely more needs to be done. This situation will not stop anytime soon, I fear. There are certainly more deaths, amputations, and disfigurements to come - we know this is the case.

EatTheGnome · 10/08/2024 23:53

Ignore the breed a moment.

We're the owners good, responsible people? I'm guessing not. People are a huge part of all problems.

Where in Cornwall? How the fuck has that not gone viral round the county in a week?

Pussycat22 · 10/08/2024 23:55

blossomismyfriend, ditto the owners!!!

Of course they weren't. No good, responsible person owns an XL in the first place.

They all need to be euthed. This half-assed 'ban' where people can apply for an exemption is pure nonsense when we still have them roaming around mauling other pets and sometimes people to death.

It was another Tory fuck up. There's been deaths and serious disfigurment since the 'ban' but they won't happen were MPs etc live, so it's all good.

Hopefully there is assistance to get the injured dog a set of wheels ? if it's the back legs.

Winston's Wheels are one, Pumpkin and Friends ( on Facebook ) is another.

Um... nice try ... no I wont ignore the fucking breed a moment , sick to the back teeth of comments like this! Ignore the breed? Ignore that this breed has lock jaw so strong and huge body weight and strength behind it as it is an xl bully that it took 4 men and 3 women to save the dachshund??? And you what want me to ignore the breed ? And do what? Pretend it was a spaniel or something? Get a grip now and stop making excuses for these vile creatures.
One of the women there is close to a friend of mine and she said it was the most horrific thing she has ever witnessed in her life.... that dog was not letting go and was shaking the dauchshund like a rag doll so no we will not pretend that this dog was another breed!!!! Jog on

They should be all euthanised. These days I get intrusive thoughts thinking what if one attacked me and my baby whilst walking out and about.

Euthanase the lot of them; if vets don't put healthy dogs down, get the army to do it for public safety. I'm also not sure how, 20 years after the DDA, there are still pit bulls that the owners have exemptions for. Any breed bread to fight and with huge power should be required to be neutered with no exemptions after about 15 years and XL bullies should go immediately.

ButtSurgery · 11/08/2024 00:06

If the dog was so aggressive, I'm astonished so many adults were willing to approach it to remove the smaller dog from its jaws.

Seems very odd indeed that Cornwall Live, The Cornishman, D&C Police etc haven't made any requests for witnesses / CCTV or followed up on any Facebook posts about it.

Then see the video I just posted of a similar attack. It happens.

Karmaisac4t · 11/08/2024 00:08

I’m glad the police are prosecuting. One attacked my dog when my partner was walking him, came running out of an unlocked garden and dragged my dog out of its harness and was shaking him. Thankfully my dog just had bite wounds. The police told me “it’s just what dogs do”

Yep, and that made the national press.

Cornwall is a small community - I'm very surprised something so nasty has gone down, has a Just Giving page up and running, and yet there's nothing at all on Facebook, Twitter, Google or the local news agencies at all.

It happened. Are u implying it didnt? Cornwall live and the police do not need witnesses the owner ran out and couldnt control his own dog, he admitted fault. The 4 men and women were the witnesses if need be and the elderly lady! Its hurrendous... but not odd. The only strange thing is that they havent yet reported it? And I'm really not sure why? Maybe they will over the next few days.
