Another xl bully attack, this time it was in my home town last week.
An xl bully ran out of the house down the road and attacked the nearest dog it saw a little dauchshund ripping both its legs off, it took 4 men and two women to get the xl bully off the other dog. The other little dog is alive thanks to the bravery of other people there at the time , however it had to have both legs ( what was left of them ) amputated.
Its extremely sad. The owner of the dauchshund is an elderly lady who was out walking the little dog ans she is utterly traumatised as expected.
The dog has been seized and owners will be prosecuted we have been told.
The reason I'm posting this is because I feel prosecution and dog being seized hasnt really solved anything has it? What is being done to prevent what happened in the first place? Nothing?? These dogs are still attacking / killing animals and children/ adults
Am I being unreasonable in thinking enough isnt being done to get rid of these hurrendous dogs?????

Do dogs kill more people than guns in this country?

Probably.
Bull breeds are definitely over represented in the killing and maiming of adults , children and other animals.

Somebody will be along, if they haven’t already, with “but there are x million dogs and only y deaths; fatal dog attacks are very rare”.

The trouble with that is that it doesn’t recognise the thousands and thousands of serious non-fatal attacks and it’s irrelevant anyway: there are millions of cats but there’s no problem with cat attacks. There shouldn’t be any deaths or serious attacks because of dogs.

Bull breeds - other than toy ones, if they exist - ought to banned outright, as you imply.

People with an XL bully and child or children in the same home should be prosecuted. It is appalling parenting.

This is an interesting point - a child would be taken away from a house full of drugs, weapons or a violent person by SS

If the dog is deemed too dangerous legally to be in public unmuzzled then where do we stand with having it in the house with children

I was once attacked by a feral cat ( he went to attack my young dog that I had in my arms as could see cat meant business!

The farmer knocked the cat off and covered him with his Barbour jacket

The local GP thought it was a fox attack ( Still got faint scars from bite and claws)

A cat can attack, but as long as antibiotics are taken, they are unlikely to kill someone.

Farmer said cat was found dead a few weeks later after increasing aggression to humans he knew-
Possibly a brain tumour.

( Cat lived on farm as was a formidable rat 🐀 killer)

There's an update on this attack:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c05j0z7yv8lo
Two dogs seized when a man died of bite injuries in a back garden were proscribed breed XL bullies, police have confirmed.
On Tuesday, police named the man as Nicholas Glass, 32. He was found dead near a relative’s property on Hereford Close in Rubery, West Midlands, during the early hours of 21 August.
It is thought up to four dogs were present at about the time he was attacked. Two animals were seized by police shortly afterwards, with two more found two days later.
"Tests have now concluded that two of the dogs were XL Bullies, which are a banned breed. Neither have a certificate of exemption," West Midlands Police said.
[....]It is thought Mr Glass had been looking after a relative's dogs when he was attacked. One of the dogs was found with an injury to its head.
Police said the dogs had been living at the property near to where Mr Glass was found although he had been living elsewhere.

A man wearing a khaki baseball cap worn backwards looks into the camera. he has a bit of a moustache and is holding his thumb and forefinger together. He is inside a property which has a black and white wallpaper pattern behind him.

Dogs seized over man's death in Rubery were XL bullies

Sorry but he does look like a typical idiot who would own a devil dog. RIP.

True - it doesn’t really make sense does it, to say a dangerous dog can be unmuzzled at home around children where most deaths occur.

Good to see the update of the two dogs being found before they injured anyone else. I don’t get why they’re being held in secure kennels and not immediately PTS.

It’s of course sad this man died but sadder still this family endangered everyone’s life and flouted the rules on this. Glad no-one else was killed as a a result of their actions.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 28/08/2024 06:46

I don’t think all 4 were bull breeds. I wish they’d use better pictures. Sometimes they use adorable pittie pictures where they look like Labradors. Other times they use the monster photo. Doesn’t help people understand which dogs are the issue when they use such inconsistent photos.
