TW - Upsetting information: XL Bully attack *edited by MNHQ

Another xl bully attack, this time it was in my home town last week.
An xl bully ran out of the house down the road and attacked the nearest dog it saw a little dauchshund ripping both its legs off, it took 4 men and two women to get the xl bully off the other dog. The other little dog is alive thanks to the bravery of other people there at the time , however it had to have both legs ( what was left of them ) amputated.
Its extremely sad. The owner of the dauchshund is an elderly lady who was out walking the little dog ans she is utterly traumatised as expected.
The dog has been seized and owners will be prosecuted we have been told.
The reason I'm posting this is because I feel prosecution and dog being seized hasnt really solved anything has it? What is being done to prevent what happened in the first place? Nothing?? These dogs are still attacking / killing animals and children/ adults
Am I being unreasonable in thinking enough isnt being done to get rid of these hurrendous dogs?????

I disagree the people breeding these dogs should have some sort of regulations put in place. Anyone can breed. Take a loom at the dog owners. Iv seen these dogs be gentle as anything. They are big dogs they need to be trained. If u cant handle the dog dont have it. Its down to the owner the breed is getting a bad name and its not the dogs. Look at the owners!

Your post is incorrect. The breed's bad name is entirely deserved and these animals are not suited to being kept as domestic pets.

CoconutSky · 11/08/2024 00:53

Oh bore off about training
Every single time one of these dogs attacks someone, be it the owner or a randomer/other animal they trot out the same shit “never shown any signs of aggression”
So what’s the answer then? Why is it that any other large breed, Newfoundland, St Bernard’s, Boxers, Dogue De Bordeaux don’t attack like these things do. Why is it ONLY ever XL Bully’s you see snapping.

Inlaw · 11/08/2024 00:55

It’s sad. But I agree. They should be euthanised.

How many dogs, children, people need to die before we decide that probably is the best option.

AInightingale · 11/08/2024 00:57

One at the bottom of my street penned up in a garden and I am so terrified one of my cats might jump over the fence one day. It did get loose about eight months ago and attacked a little spaniel, similar to the case you describe OP. Men dragged it off and hit it with poles, one got his hand so badly bitten he had to be taken to hospital. The other dog was ok thankfully. The police weren't informed. (It's that sort of place.) These dogs are dangerous and the owners are selfish stupid cunts.

No, I'm actually quite intelligent and I don't need to resort to slinging insults to get my point across.
I try to evaluate, process and form an independent opinion, even if you don't agree with it. That's what this platform is about, or am I mistaken?

Well the only thing I can suggest to you then is that you keep trying.

Youcantellalotofthingsabouttheflowers · 11/08/2024 00:59

Every single one of them need to be exterminated.

shuggles · 11/08/2024 00:59

The "Bully XL" is a chav dog. It is owned by people who think that a dog is an accessory, or for "protection," rather than a companion.

Right on cue, along comes one of aforementioned idiots.

HermioneMakepeace0 · 11/08/2024 01:00

Horrible story. The people who intervened are very brave. A lot more brave than me. Because no way would I have taken on one of these dogs unless it was going for one of my children 😬

HermioneMakepeace0 · 11/08/2024 01:01

honestly why is this country as soft as shit? Why are we not euthanising these monsters?

oakleaffy · 11/08/2024 01:03

Woman who was an ''advocate'' for XL ownership ''I don't give a fuck what you think'' was ripped apart by her own dogs.

Notgivingup54 · 11/08/2024 01:07

I think those who are defending the breed have missed the point. An XL bully has ripped off the back legs of another dog. Several people & dogs have died or been mutilated by the breed. Irrespective of how responsible or irresponsible the owners are this breed and this breed alone needs to be looked at again. There is no defence for mutilating or killing a defenceless animal or human being. If it were a person we would all be demanding justice.

oakleaffy · 11/08/2024 01:08

From a vet:

Call for ban on XL bully dogs in Ireland
Speaking to BBC News NI, James Madden, who is also a vet and a member of the working group examining dog control measures in the Republic of Ireland, has advocated for a ban similar to the one currently in force in the UK.

"It's the potential to inflict injury that makes these dogs so dangerous, they're incredibly strong and the force of their jaws have the ability to cause serious damage," he said.
"We are seeing more and more XL bullies in the Republic as the sale and breeding is not restricted here and more and more people want them so there is a market here."
Mr Madden also works with training dog wardens and said he is hearing more and more reports of XL bullies being aggressive and attacking members of the public.

I wondered what the sentence would be for an owner of a dangerous dog that attacks a human.

https://www.cps.gov.uk/mersey-cheshire/news/mother-and-son-jailed-after-xl-bully-dog-attack-child

Life-changing injuries inflicted onto a little boy. The two people involved were sentenced to 24 and 20 months. What a joke.

There is a numbnut that has one of these in my area. One early morning when I was getting into my car, at the time he was walking it close by, it pulled the leash out of the numbnut's hand and went for me. Thankfully I got in my car and slammed the door shut just in time.

These dogs need to be euthanised. It's not the owner, it's the dog. It is in their genetics.

As someone who LOVES dogs…what’s in a breeds nature is in breed’s nature, do I believe they are ALL aggressive, no I don’t, but the vast majority will be as it’s what is bread into them…though the owner also plays a big part in it. For me it’s difficult, but unless passing some sort of exemption test they probably should as a breed be humanly euthanised. However, I don’t think MN is the best place to raise the issue as there is a massive hate for dogs (for some unknown reason) e.g. I have a collie and if she was to bite anyone it would be her last day (she’s fantastic with adults/kids/dogs) and gets walked off lead but there’s 1029338484838 people on MN who would say no dog should be walked off lead just because they have no “right” to be off the lead as they don’t approve.

Notgivingup54 · 11/08/2024 01:13

You can't ignore the statistics, they speak for themselves unfortunately.

Heretotalk1207538 · 11/08/2024 01:16

I do think the owners should face jail and questioning dogs are animals at the end of the day if u cant control it dont have it. If your dog is vicious whar do we do as owners? We train and we take them to dog trajners? Its down to the owners. Dogs arent like this naturally its mix breeding bloodlines genetics breeding these mongrols and then blaming the dogs for erratic behaviour. There needs to be regulations in place. Look at when covid hit every man and hit dog started breeding because everyone wanted a dog? they dont know what they are doing.

Please change the title of this thread it’s extremely graphic and distressing.

Totally inappropriate. People need to have a choice to read something this distressing.

Reading a title of a post is distressing? OMG.

To be honest, I really only came on here to see what would happen if I expressed an opinion in opposition to the main argument and the people on here have not disappointed me.
You've all been as aggressive as the dogs we're discussing so does that mean euthanasia all around?
I think a rational head and unemotional logic will get us farther towards a solution to this issue than mass hysteria and bringing out the pitch forks.

Indeed! I think the title should stand, we should not avoid facing the threat posed by these animals.

Ignore the breed a moment.

We're the owners good, responsible people? I'm guessing not. People are a huge part of all problems.

If irresponsible people owned corgis there still wouldn’t be the shit show and maulings that occur with XL bullies.

Agree. The more publicity the better

Mummyindublin · 11/08/2024 01:41

Would someone ever set up a zoo for these nasty creatures. Let the xl bully lovers go enjoy them there and spare the the rest of us

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 11/08/2024 01:42

ButtSurgery · 11/08/2024 00:06

If the dog was so aggressive, I'm astonished so many adults were willing to approach it to remove the smaller dog from its jaws.

Seems very odd indeed that Cornwall Live, The Cornishman, D&C Police etc haven't made any requests for witnesses / CCTV or followed up on any Facebook posts about it.

Why do you think it’s odd.Are you trying to say it never happened.

Agree, could've just been called "XL bully attacks another dog" we don't need distressing graphic details of the extent of the attack in the literal title.

A friend of my brothers has one of these dogs. I remember her showing me pics when she'd just got it and all I could think was "the same breed that killed that 10 year old boy?" as it was right after that attack. Been so so many since then. I have no idea how she's coping with it now, she has other smaller dogs too. At one point I heard she was struggling for money so I have no idea how she even affords to keep it. She seems like a nice lady but prone to very bad decision making. I have no idea why she got it.
