TW - Upsetting information: XL Bully attack *edited by MNHQ

Another xl bully attack, this time it was in my home town last week.
An xl bully ran out of the house down the road and attacked the nearest dog it saw a little dauchshund ripping both its legs off, it took 4 men and two women to get the xl bully off the other dog. The other little dog is alive thanks to the bravery of other people there at the time , however it had to have both legs ( what was left of them ) amputated.
Its extremely sad. The owner of the dauchshund is an elderly lady who was out walking the little dog ans she is utterly traumatised as expected.
The dog has been seized and owners will be prosecuted we have been told.
The reason I'm posting this is because I feel prosecution and dog being seized hasnt really solved anything has it? What is being done to prevent what happened in the first place? Nothing?? These dogs are still attacking / killing animals and children/ adults
Am I being unreasonable in thinking enough isnt being done to get rid of these hurrendous dogs?????

Starmer needs to do the right thing and order an immediate cull. Owners have one week to take their beast to the vets to get some pink juice, failing that, armed police to shoot on sight. Prison for anyone who doesn't take the dog to the vet.

Sorry to just quote yourself when I'm sure many others have posted similar, but I think the issue lies with the definition of an XL bully. Since it's a type not a breed, what about those dogs that are just unfortunate enough to fit into the category, ie American bull dog, certain staffy X's, at work we even have a french bulldog X who fits into the category. These dogs could be 8 years old or whatever and never caused a single issue yet then would suddenly be culled? The owners seem to be doing the right things by muzzling with appropriate training and getting the exemption certs etc as they are scared their dogs will be taken and PTS, these dogs if not true 'xl bullys' with the poor breeding from killer kimbo or what his name is/was shouldn't pose a risk?

I truly don't care that a few borderline-looking dogs get culled alongside the actual XLs - what's a few fewer dogs compared to the life of a child mauled/maimed or killed by one of these beasts? I also think all bully breeds have a higher propensity to attack, so they can all go to hell, afaic. Just because the smaller ones don't do quite as much damage as the bigger ones, doesn't mean they deserve to live, and risk the rest of us getting attacked.

Starmer definitely needs to take immediate action. I agree with a total cull of this breed. I would like to see a massive clampdown on dog ownership in general, it has got out of control, it was never meant to be this way.

I completely agree.

Viviennemary · 21/08/2024 23:15

Lets get rid of those dangerous animals once and for all. No ifs or buts. I'm not interested in why they are killers. I just want them banned.

OonaStubbs · 22/08/2024 00:26

Dogs should be for people in rural areas, and safe breeds only. Dogs were never meant to be kept cooped up in small city flats.

I hear you but you do also realise that housing isn't as binary as remote barn conversion in the wolds and tower of cramped flats in the city don't you?

A lot of these XL bullies live in the in between and in the countryside.

I wouldn't allow people to keep full-sized pigs as pets. Only minipigs.

Weren't they a scam? Lots of teacup pigs growing into full size pigs.

oakleaffy · 14/08/2024 22:29

This is a video put up by a breeder of these dogs....

They interviewed the owners of the dog who killed the little girl. ''Like a demon posessed him''

It tells of how the XL Pit was ''her dog''..''a completely sweet dawg''- til it wasn't.

A lot of these are in UK. Same genetics.

That breeder pisses me of.
Yes, they are being responsible by drawing attention to dangerous bloodlines, keeping a record of them. If they are really being careful to avoid those traits in their own breeding then good for them.
But they undermine that somewhat with their "our dogs are really safe" messaging reinforced with a tiny child sprawled on top of their massive dog. An actually responsible dog person wouldn't be advocating for that or insinuating that their dogs are "safe" for small children to ignore their personal boundaries
It undermines their whole message.

Also "I know you love the dog. You wouldn't spend 2 grand on a dog to treat it like crap". That really isn't always true is it.

Micro pigs were a total scam.
They were tiny piglets sold to the gullible.
All piglets are born tiny and pristine-
and hand sized, covered in silky smooth hair
They are very sweet.
But they grow massively.

Thank goodness the fashion for pigs as pets waned.

Lovely intelligent animals, doubtlessly many were kept by ignorant owners.
Pigs as pets if one has land and facilities and knowledge is different to a domestic pig in an urban home.

I nearly fell for it, but doing my research discovered they were subject to movement orders. You had to register their walk route, and couldn’t go anywhere new.

I knew the size issue- that wouldn’t have been the problem 🤣

Amberpants · 22/08/2024 08:39

Apparently the man that has been killed in the last couple of days wasn’t actually the owner, he was looking after the dog for someone. It’s near me and his daughter has commented on the police post 😢

I’m a massive animal lover, a vegetarian, but I agree these dogs need to go.

I am vegan, and I want these dogs exterminated. Humans come first, we should not be risking our lives for animals.

Lorapots · 22/08/2024 11:33

The irony is the majority of these xbully idiot supporters would claim they are more of an animal lover than you despite the fact that IMO vegans are actually the definition of a true animal lover @Watermel

Does anyone watch love island? One former love islander called Faye who came third or 4th in the final a few years ago (and was very explosive on the series) has made various posts in support of Xl bullies telling us we just don’t understand the breed and showing videos of her running around a park with one and that the upcoming ban is cruel 🤦🏽‍♀️ I don’t follow her on instagram but stumbled upon her page somehow

Indeed. I have been vegan for 25+ years and the number of times I have had to hear that the UK is a nation of animal lovers, when the statistics for animals killed in the UK alone merely for consumption proves otherwise, is exasperating.
Dog- and cat- owners especially, think they are animal lovers, yet they are responsible for billions of other animals being killed, to feed their pets.
I am looking forward to more people making the connexion.

I’m not a vegan but I totally agree with you. I don’t think it’s fair to say we are a nation of animal lovers. We’re a nation of pet lovers. There’s a difference.

My ex didn’t have any pets, and wasn’t keen on them but he was a vegan out of principle. That to me a true animal lover.

Oh that's awful 😞🤬
When I saw the photo I did think he didn't look like a typical owner.

The UK is a nation of animal lovers.
Translation: the UK is a nation of people who love to eat animal flesh and also love to indulge themselves with pet animals.

CoconutSky · 22/08/2024 12:53

My mum used to always say. The UK is a nation of dog owners not dog lovers.

It seems reasonably likely that they were his own dogs?

BlackShuck3 · 22/08/2024 14:05

In the news reports of the first killing it said that the dog had to be shot to prevent further injury which suggests it was still in 'killing mode' / in a state of extreme arousal.
I'm thinking it's likely that these two dogs are behaving similarly, I hope they are caught and destroyed as soon as possible. Have people in the vicinity been warned to stay indoors?

I read that a brother was looking after these killer dogs.

I saw a hideous white, tiny~ eyed nappy rash faced ''American Bully'' pulling it's puny owner off his feet the other day- it was choking itself trying to reach an old woman's innocent passive small dog- These dogs really do appeal to the tiny penis brigade.

Oh no, not another one. When will people learn?

Do dogs kill more people than guns in this country?
