They are absolutely not protesting. I'm local and grew up in the 80s with football hooligans at Roker Park. Football cleaned up it's act and became too expensive so these thugs have just moved on to something else. I'm deeply ashamed but know that it's still a minority that have done this (and many involved weren't locals) and the majority of our wonderful community are absolutely disgusted with them. It's raining now so hopefully they'll bugger off home but I can still hear the police helicopter over my house.

We do not have a right to riot, which is what these people are doing.
They seem to be on a Grand Tour of Britain atm.

It’s a bunch of racist thugs, some from the area and some who have travelled up.
There is a picture circulating of a man with a swastika tattoo and he’s been identified as being from Stoke on Trent. The arsehole has travelled up intent on causing bother.
A volunteer clean up operation is being organised for tomorrow if anyone is local and wants to help.

It's just a big excuse for a fight. Breaking shop windows and looting. A taxi set on fire and a police car smashed up. Police provoked and attacked. It's disgusting. Some of them look so young, too - mid teens. I really hope the police can identify them and bring them to justice.

These riots/ thieving/ rampage always seem to happen in hot weather.
Nothing to do with those poor families in Southport who are grieving and worried about those still in hospital — just criminals.

Disgusting - it's mass hysteria, fuelled by social media, coke and self-regarding grifting racists like Farage and Robinson - whose organisations should be proscribed under anti-terrorism legislation.

No mosques in easy reach of me (very rural, nothing here) but if there were, I would want to get down there in solidarity.
