The news coverage is being very carefully curated, I assume to minimise potential social contagion. Deprive the arseholes of oxygen / exposure. Which could go either way - either they'll get bored or they'll double down. Given that the police and judicial systems are underfunded, undermanned etc they have to get it under control somehow because the knock on effects are going to cost alot if money, not to mention the emotional cost and community disruption.

Cocaine and alcohol are quite the potent mix. Add in the heat, long nights, the history of riots through the ages (I'm waiting for a knowledgeable Mnetter to discuss the 1780 Gordon Riots) and rioting on any pretext is to be expected, even in the UK. With a side-order of looting.
