Trying so hard with my twitching

Terrifiedshakes · 01/08/2024 00:46

See my other threads. I'm at a loss

I'm trying so hard to sort out why I'm twitching. I'm taking Kalm tablets now and I'm trying hard with breathing techniques

Yet I still continue to twitch all over my body. Every few mins there is a twitch and it can be anywhere.

I'm bow trying to fall asleep but I keep getting woken up by a massive twitch that feels like it's coming from my head. I'm terrified it's a seizure that I can't go back to sleep.

I am so very anxious though about these twitxhes. It's a vicious cycle. If they are anxiety related how do I break the cycle and why are they coming from my head and waking me up with such a jolt..

Please be gentle with me with your advice as I'm so scared I've got MS or a brain tumour or MND I'm sat here trembling with fear and the trembling is fear , the twitches are muscle.

You run excessively, and never rest your body.
You don't sleep well and you're highly anxious and extremely tense...

You do not surprise me in the slightest that you're experiencing involuntary muscle twitching and hypnic jerks as you nod off.

Find a way to deal with your anxiety and tension and stop driving your body to exhaustion. That is your actual problem, and they are symptoms of you not looking after your body properly.

Hypnic jerks vary massively, mine feel almost like ive been dropped head first off a tall building, my partner seems to have massive ones and barely ever notices them but when he does, he says its like he's been shoved from behind (he's blamed the dog a few times for kicking him until I've pointed out the dog isn't behind him!).

Terrifiedshakes · 01/08/2024 05:22

That's interesting that people experience hypnic jerks differently.

Before this twitching I used to experience them but it just felt like they were coming from my shoulders or if I was falling.

Now they come from.my head like a full on thrust with force.

It may be myoclonus jerks I get these for which my GP prescribes clonazepam which totally helps I also experience sudden jerks at sudden noises, I literally ‘jump out of my skin’. For me this started after a major trauma, for me, when my daughter completely cut us out of her life, for no real reason. She has a coercive and controlling husband. You are not imagining these, nor are you attention seeking. You have my full sympathy. I also, have acute insomnia. I think you should go back to your gp and maybe ask for a neurological opinion. I wrote it all down when I saw the neurologist.*99£ luck! It is a debilitating condition.

But what if this isn't health anxiety. What if I'm having a seizure in my sleep.

I can't go back to the drs again, this will be the third time in 4/5 weeks.

But they don't know I'm still twitching..

What did they say was the cause of your twitching. Did they suggest medication. Or counselling for your anxiety.

That is a bit unkind - if you don’t want to help fine but no reason to say something like this to someone with severe anxiety.

ittakes2 · 01/08/2024 06:11

Have you tried accupuncture?

Terrifiedshakes · 01/08/2024 08:51

I managed to get to sleep in the end and had about 3 hours. No more jerks in my sleep thankfully.

Hopefully this will the the case tonight and I'll sleep soundly.

Acupuncture, strongly, my brother is being a bacholors honour(?) in Acupuncture. I've never thought about it until my mum told me the other day he's studying this.

OP posts:
Terrifiedshakes · 01/08/2024 08:53

Dr didn't say anything about my twitching. Just

"Let's run some blood tests" (normal)

"Could be anxiety" (it began while I had an exam looming)

"Medication isn't needed as you arnt anxious all the time, only when you have symptoms to worry about".

OP posts:
Fimbledore · 01/08/2024 10:08

I have myoclonic jerks whenever I relax and have been told by psychiatrist it is possibly from SSRi use.

thecatwiththesilveryfur · 01/08/2024 11:12

Oh OP. You're managing so much, it's no wonder you have anxiety. Please go to a doctor and tell them about your whole situation. Flowers

Some of the posters on this thread should be ashamed of themselves.

Terrifiedshakes · 01/08/2024 17:51

Well I've just looked over my blood results. I've never, from what I can see, been tested for magnesium.

I'm a long distance runner, train in the gym and attend a gym class 5 days a week. I sweat A LOT. I'm wondering if I'm.deficent in magnesium as I just can't see any results. I can see normal results for potasium.

Fimbledore · 02/08/2024 06:53

Can you afford a private neurologist? Initial consultations where I am are £250, then £80 for follow up appointments.

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 02/08/2024 07:20

Try the magnesium.

But most of all, talk about your son. Are you having that opportunity as a carer? A support group of some kind?

The change in tone of your posts after you speak about him, and have had a cry, felt noticeable to me.

Crying literally removes stress hormones from the body. Holding it back is not productive- better to seek out Christmas adverts and soppy films and get a full Sobfest underway.

Address your stress- it’s become another stressor in itself. 💐

I don’t mind reassuring someone who’s struggling, which she clearly is. Twitching is scary, I have it myself and I go through times when I feel absolutely terrified. Your mind runs away with you and you need someone to talk you down with logic and facts.

I think that what some pp are trying to say is that there's no reassuring Op, however many posters spend time trying to do so.

I'm a ball of absolute nervous energy and I can't snap out of it

Yep, being an absolute ball of nervous energy will absolutely make you twitch!
I've commented on all your other posts. All that's left to say is please seek help for your health anxiety.

Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 00:59

I think I'm on the verge of a breakdown

I've had a good day for muscle twitxhes. The odd one here and there but I've been dreading bedtime incase I twitch in my sleep and it feels like a seizure. So I'm.teyong to fall asleep before and yep my twitxhes start and my arms jerking in my sleep so now I'm awake..I'm terrified again I've got MND. All my muscles around my neck shoulders and back are creaking really badly like they are weak but I'm holding them so tightly. I've got very bad stomache pains tonight too but this could be becuase I'm on about 5 different vitamins..vit b complex, magneisum, potasium etc. There all on my stomache

Op, stop trying to go to sleep. Get yourself a book and read until your eyes are really heavy. Google some relaxing breathing techniques. This is anxiety.

Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 01:04

I honestly feel like ive had enough of this shit.

I've been Windermere on a boat ride. Had a pub lunch etc with about 10 twitches, if that all day. Then I try and go to sleep and my arms throwing its self up, while I'm nearly asleep. My feet are twitching. My tensori tapi ear mycolnus what ever it's called its starting to make a buzz again. I've got the shits from the iron tablets that I don't need but I'm taking just incase. I'm rattling I've got that.many vitamin tabkets inside.me. Amazon's profit margins are sky high as I'm ordering new vitamins, sprays, pillow sprays for relaxation, every single day.

My DH is sat uo woth me now, terrified I'm going to OD as I'm.an absolute ball of adrenaline. Someone knocked the back of my calf.today with a pram and I buckled slightly. Could be brisk reflexes due to nerves, or I'm.incredibly poorly. Google won't answer me even though I've googled about 8 different questions about reflexes.

I'm jumping out of my skin.at minor noises. I watched a peter rabbit show today and the actor came.from behind. I nearly flew off my seat into the stage i was that jumpy. Kids and toddlers never batted an eyelid. But my eyelid fuckng twitched.

I can imagine. You don’t need to put up with it though. I do understand, I’ve suffered very badly with health anxiety and it can become all consuming and you think nothing and nobody could ever help you. But that isn’t true.

Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 01:20

Something in the house just cracked and I jerked my head like I had a tic. Well I am ticked off. I just want to sleep.

I am reading a good book atm, I'll.go get that. It's that or a breakdown. I can't keep.googling MND and People stories. It's heartbreaking as well.as terrifying..
