Trying so hard with my twitching

Terrifiedshakes · 01/08/2024 00:46

See my other threads. I'm at a loss

I'm trying so hard to sort out why I'm twitching. I'm taking Kalm tablets now and I'm trying hard with breathing techniques

Yet I still continue to twitch all over my body. Every few mins there is a twitch and it can be anywhere.

I'm bow trying to fall asleep but I keep getting woken up by a massive twitch that feels like it's coming from my head. I'm terrified it's a seizure that I can't go back to sleep.

I am so very anxious though about these twitxhes. It's a vicious cycle. If they are anxiety related how do I break the cycle and why are they coming from my head and waking me up with such a jolt..

Please be gentle with me with your advice as I'm so scared I've got MS or a brain tumour or MND I'm sat here trembling with fear and the trembling is fear , the twitches are muscle.

Just read your updates. Wow, sounds exhausting. No wonder you are twitching..

EatMoreFibre · 04/08/2024 06:22

OP I have been where you are with all the exact symptoms. I was convinced I was imminently going to be diagnosed with a serious neurological condition.

I was going through an incredibly difficult period in my life but once the big stressors were gone the twitching disappeared. A clear mri scan was fundamental for me to be able to move on. I also took sertraline for a few months - not great as you say the adaptation period, side effects and withdrawal are BAD. For people with the symptoms we have a course of diazepam for a couple of weeks would be far better - truly breaking the cycle of anxiety, insomnia and physical symptoms while anxiety treatment starts. But doctors can't prescribe it.

I know your life is objectively stressful and that won't change any time soon. Please have a chat with a doctor to discuss the pressures of caring for your child and the effects on your mind and body. They can help and you can absolutely feel better - hell you can feel GOOD.

Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 08:26

Why can't drs diagnose diazepam?

Also, I'm thinking of ordering an audio book.

I haven't a clue how to though.

Do you listen to them on your phone through headphones? Do I need to download an app in order to download them? Pay a subscription fee - which I don't mind doing.

OP you can listen to Dr Claire Weekes on YouTube. Or if you go on Audible and get a free trial you can listen to 2 of her 3 books for free. Or you can read the full book at the internet archive for free.

I have also been told that mine could be my body's way of releasing tension. I find them violent and sometimes physically painful but afterwards I relax and feel better.
Homedics percussion massager can help. Used daily to iron out tension

Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 08:26

Why can't drs diagnose diazepam?

It’s very addictive. Have you tried any medication for anxiety?

Mabelface · 04/08/2024 11:04

You sound like your body is in permanent fight or flight response, with high adrenaline and cortisol. You never allow yourself to rest or relax and your muscles are constantly tensed. Couple this with being on high alert for your son and I'm not surprised your muscles twitch constantly. You're exhausted.

Anxiety can do horrible things to your body. My suggestion to you would be this. Speak to your GP about treatment for anxiety. Be completely honest that it's not just now and again, and yes, you can have panic attacks in your sleep. Try medication for a good period of time.

Cut down on the excessive exercise.
Allow your partner to take over being on alert for your son for periods of time so you can rest.

Being treated for your anxiety doesn't mean that you have to stop investigations for other things, but you may just find that if it's dealt with, and you finally get some rest that the twitches will stop.

You have a lot going on in your life. It's really important to those you care for that you also care for yourself. I can't stress this enough.

You can get through this, with the right help and support.

Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 11:59

Thanks I was watching a very good person on you tube before,.someone recommended her on here and I thought I'd give it a shot. I've never actively done anything like that before and it felt strange taking responsibility for health anxiety. She spoke a lot of sence and ill listen to her again.

What she was saying about health anxiety and behaviours really hit home.

I managed to fall asleep before but I was woken to my shoulder rippling. When I woke it stopped. This wouldn't happen with MND would it. I couldn't just stop it could I.

OP take your pulse. I guarantee you it's racing. Dead giveaway that you're dealing with an anxiety attack. That wouldn't happen with MND either. It's pure adrenaline causing these twitches, your body is permanently in flight or flight mode. It doesn't know there is nothing to be scared of, its screaming at you Run. Run. Danger.

Try going for a run, not a steady run either, proper sprint across a field or something, really get your blood pumping and keep it up until your energy crashes. Adrenaline exists for a purpose, to allow you to flee or fight. Use it up and it could help your symptoms.

Leanmeansmitingmachine · 04/08/2024 12:14

Normal bloods is encouraging. It could well be caused by your hypervigilance and completely unmanaged health anxiety.

Please, before your life is totally destroyed by the anxiety, seek help for it.

I have got clinical weakness.

When I try to do a crunch on the floor my torso is shaking and vibrating as a come back up. It's been like this for weeks.

This could be ALS couldn't it. Or maybe a deficency that's causing my muscles to be weak.

I'm definitely not dropping anything and I can hold and carry very heavy things but my torso vibrating is worrying. Or could it be that tension is causing my muscles to be so tense in my back and middle that they are going weak. The top of my back is feeling very creaky and it's aching like I need a massage.

I've not ran or exercised for 7 whole days now and I've never gone this long.

Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 12:22

Like when it's quiet I can almost hear my muscles in the top of my back and shoulders, deltas creaking and they feel week

Omg I'm panicking again I've got als. I wish it was a Monday as I could go drs

OP posts:
KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 04/08/2024 12:22

Bless you. It sounds a bit like a whole body version of restless legs. Irritating but fundamentally not dangerous in anyway. Breathe. Choose to behave differently. Choose to get better by behaving differently.

I’ve had a radical lifestyle overhaul to manage anxiety and pain. It makes a huge difference. You can do it.

Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 12:24

I've just done 20 quick push ups. I'm vibrating in my back and delts but I pushed up strong and fast.

OP posts:
KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 04/08/2024 12:24

Tell me, if they diagnosed you with something that wouldn’t get worse, would you feel better? To give it a name? Then you could treat it and manage the symptoms. Would that help?

Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 12:28

If they said MS I'd crack on with it.

I'm terrified of going drs and waiting firna scan and waiting for a result and hearing the voice of a Dr talk and tell me they have found something on my brain or spine. I'm terrified of that second pause before they tell me what they have found. Incase its a brain tumour.

If it was MS I'd crack on with it and take what life throws at me..if its ALS I'd walk off the motorway bridge. I can't let my kids see me like that.

OP posts:
Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 12:33

So if I sort my breathing out i can come back down from a crunch much steadier with less vibrations from my torso.

If I come back down from a crunch and I'm panicking then my whole torso vibrates terribly.

Can the Dr definitely not prescribe diazapam? Or some CBD oil. Or laughing gas or weed or an IV drip of vodka or gas and air. Something?

OP posts:
Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 12:34

Nope when I come back down from a crush I'm shaking like a shitting dog.

It's ALS.

OP posts:
Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 12:37

Why be so nasty ? This person has obvious mental health issues. Is being unkind going to help ????

KeirSpoutsTwaddle · 04/08/2024 13:28

You know what it is. Take some responsibility.

Give it a name. Call it Fight or Flight syndrome. Treat it by managing your anxiety with yoga/meditation/taichi etc.
get a massage if you can afford one.

Stop taking iron if it upsets your stomach and you don’t need it.

And buck up. You don’t want your kids to see you with ALS, well it’s no fun for them with you like this, either.

My good friend has ALS. Stop appropriating her very real condition and sort yourself out.

Kindly.

OP you don’t have clinical weakness. You wouldn’t be able to do a crunch at all. You’re misunderstanding what clinical weakness is.

Terrifiedshakes · 04/08/2024 14:00

I do need a slap.

Reading my book now. Calmly.
