Trying so hard with my twitching

Terrifiedshakes · 01/08/2024 00:46

See my other threads. I'm at a loss

I'm trying so hard to sort out why I'm twitching. I'm taking Kalm tablets now and I'm trying hard with breathing techniques

Yet I still continue to twitch all over my body. Every few mins there is a twitch and it can be anywhere.

I'm bow trying to fall asleep but I keep getting woken up by a massive twitch that feels like it's coming from my head. I'm terrified it's a seizure that I can't go back to sleep.

I am so very anxious though about these twitxhes. It's a vicious cycle. If they are anxiety related how do I break the cycle and why are they coming from my head and waking me up with such a jolt..

Please be gentle with me with your advice as I'm so scared I've got MS or a brain tumour or MND I'm sat here trembling with fear and the trembling is fear , the twitches are muscle.

Why are you all awake at this hour anyway?

If you all tell me its because you have been woken up by a head jerk , then I give up. :)

Same as you OP. Worried because I’ve got pain and twitching. Trying to believe those things my doctors told me about it not being serious.

FumingAintTheWord · 01/08/2024 02:12

Op I had this and I had a disregulated vagus nerve. A proper daith piercing ( not from a salon ) from a migraine clinic put enough pressure on my vagus nerve to stop loads of anxiety based symptoms I was having - migraines and twitching. Give it a look into.

Terrifiedshakes · 01/08/2024 02:15

I think I can eventually accept its not MND. It just doesn't fit.

I've said it. And I won't go down that rabbit gone again.

MS, I'm not convinced. I do know when the Dr tests my upper reflexes. They were good apparently but this was for something unrelated to my twitches. It was an appointment for an insurance claim. Nevertheless he tested my reflexes and they were normal.

That’s good and very reassuring. Just try and think about this whenever you get a negative thought, just keep telling yourself this

Zusamenn, what are we like. Its horrific feeling like this. I'm guessing we could have a dance off with our muscle twitches of Micheal Jacksons thriller. Subconsciously. My shoulders and arms love to twitch on their own.

This is how I started with fibromyalgia. Odd twitching, then itching ( thankfully that wore off after a year or so) Then the bloody pain and sleeplessness set in. And is still here, hence why I’m awake at nearly 3 am. Again.

oneniltothem · 01/08/2024 03:10

Cherelle thinks on YouTube have a look at her muscle twitching video

I can only hope you listen this time and go and get help - whether that’s further tests or mental heath support.

If the op gets her twitches sorted, she won’t need mental health support 🙄

I honestly have no idea why you’ve picked on that particular comment, it made sense. That and the eye roll just makes you look a bit silly.

Because there was no need to talk about mental health when the problem is clearly medical. It's why so many medical issues for women are dismissed by doctors as stress/mental.

EatMoreFibre · 01/08/2024 03:49

You have a lot on your plate OP and in your circumstances medication like sertraline would help

In the meantime Flowers

I can't fall asleep for fear its going to happen again. I keep getting a weird sensation in my head as I'm nodding off so I wake myself up

Oh I’m sorry, I had no idea you had access to op’s medical records.

Don’t be ridiculous. None of us have any idea whether these issues are medical or psychological. Which is why I covered both scenarios in my reply. Just stop.

Just ignore that poster op. They know nothing.

Itneverrainsinsocal · 01/08/2024 04:03

@Terrifiedshakes if this is anxiety related, which it sounds like it is, then you are trapped in a loop of looking for the cause, when actually the cause is a massive backlog of adrenaline floating around in your system. You can’t sit around waiting to find the magical cure - you have to accept that it’s anxiety and then gradually symptoms will reduce as you start living normally. I’d really recommend downloading the Kindle app and downloading a book called At Last a Life by Paul David - it really helped me to approach the anxiety the right way and to just get on with life, rather than anxiously waiting for a “cure” or “reason”. It contains lots of reassuring information about anxiety symptoms, both physical and mental. Excess adrenaline can absolutely cause all sorts of weird symptoms that make you feel as though youre about to die. The other thing that helps is getting heart rate up - a gentle jog or fast walk, to burn off the adrenaline you’re creating with your anxious thoughts, this helps to break the cycle, even though I’m sure exercise is the last thing you want to do… but it really can help here.
its an awful feeling but this book could help you change your mindset… it really helped me from a place I never thought I’d recover from. You do sound as though you’re under great stress and you owe it to yourself and your son to work on your anxiety. I hope you feel better soon.

MrsMorrisey · 01/08/2024 04:03

You sitting there stressing out is not going to help.
You need to calm down. If you are unwell then you'll get treated.
I have had breast cancer. I got better. I shit myself when diagnosed but then thought okay let's get on with it.
Stop being terrified of being sick otherwise you will get sick.

The don’t focus on falling asleep. But do put your phone down. Have you got a book or something handy? The more you focus on falling asleep, the more anxious you’ll become.

Terrifiedshakes · 01/08/2024 04:06

Yes I've got a book on the go at the moment I'll get that out. X

I've been like this since I was 18/19. I think the point of anxiety finally taking its toll and making me have physical symptoms and becoming sick with them, age 34. It's caught up with me probably, all these years feeling and behaving like this.

MrsMorrisey · 01/08/2024 04:09

Okay just read about your son. It's stress!. You are extremely stressed! Guilt, fear, frustration and everything else. You need to get help for your stress and you'll find the physical symptoms will subside.

Salumthecat · 01/08/2024 04:29

Do you take any medication? I have twitches due to mine.

My best friend has fibromyalgia and believed for a long time that twitches similar to the ones you describe were down to that, she reduced medication (especially opiates) and looked for ways to reduce anxiety- therapy, meditation, avoiding social media or looking things up online etc… and the twitches have almost gone.

i understand what it’s like to have health anxiety but the more you focus and worry about certain things the worse they can seem. Stop assuming the worst and don’t try to sleep unless you are actually ready to so you don’t lie awake worrying.

Improve your sleep hygiene and stay off your phone, read a book or even listen to an audiobook on a timer so you are focusing on that and not your internal worries. Get up early and try to be as active as possible so when you go to bed you are exhausted.

I used to have panic attacks the minute I closed my eyes to sleep, my mind would start racing and I’d get myself into more and more of a state.
I now don’t go to bed until I know I’m ready to sleep and I leave my phone turned off. I often read as a distraction if I’m feeling anxious and often wake up with my kindle next to me where I’ve fallen asleep and dropped it.

I use aromatherapy oils which don’t work for everyone but I found useful, if I’m feeling very anxious or stressed I have a bath with a lavender bath bomb and aromatherapy essentials oil, I put it into my diffuser and use pillow spray. DP wasn’t amused to start with but he admits he sleeps well now!

I use an Alexa with rain or wave sounds and try to focus on that instead of my breathing so I don’t hyperventilate.

If you really feel you have a physical condition then go to your GP and show them the multiple posts you’ve made about how much you are worrying, at the end of the day no one on mumsnet can diagnose anything and people with similar symptoms could have them for different reasons so it’s impossible to compare yourself to anyone in the hope of getting answers.

It sounds like you have a a lot going on that you are struggling with, anxiety presents itself in lots of different ways.

I hope you get some answers and feel better soon, try to find some real life support and see your GP as soon as you can. Definitely look into if it’s side effects from medication and avoid caffeine and maybe try herbal tea? X

you tube sleep hypnosis.lie down, play n do what says.dont think bout it n make it your choice.

Terrifiedshakes · 01/08/2024 05:05

I'll have to do this tomorrow now. I've not slept and every time I tired my body would jerk in some place and wake me up. It was the top of my back just now that slightly lifted and stopped me from going under into sleep.

My son will wake up in an hour now anyway.
