Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

Bex5490 · 30/07/2024 22:18

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

I think all of you on this thread have had enough internet for a while. And so have I.

PandoraSox · 31/07/2024 10:35

Mumsnet needs to just take all these threads down. So many lies being spread and so much Islamophobia.

This has been going on for years, not just since brexit.

But before Brexit, we had no control over who could come in But now we do but we need the workers otherwise we wouldn't allow them in.

WHY won't the government acknowledge there is an issue with grooming gangs? Why is that being swept under the carpet? Why aren't they deporting people that break our laws or don't want to live by the laws of this country? Why did they pay 217K to silence people over one syrian 'boy'? Why won't they allow questioning of the grooming issue?

Wha has any of that to do with the murder of three little girls in Southport?
**
They are allowing us to become 2nd class citizens in our own country

I ask you again, who are “we/us”? The murderer is British.

Just have the courage of your convictions and say exactly what you mean if you believe you’re right.

CantDealwithChristmas · 31/07/2024 10:41

It often goes this way unfortunately.

With the Black Lives Matters protests in summer 2020, initially it was peaceful citizens simply exercising their rights to protest, then Antifa turned up, and the fire and destruction started. Same with the Occupy movement in the late 2000s. Something similar will have happened here.

I absolutely support people protesting peacefully against whatever ideology led to the heinous massacre committed on Monday.

Mumsnet needs to just take all these threads down. So many lies being spread and so much Islamophobia.

Racist and bigoted language/rhetoric is not allowed on MN. These posts will be deleted.

However, this is a free society and people must be allowed to discuss current issues.

No debate- is a tactic used to shut down those with moderate views and only results in those with extremist views being heard.

People should be able to discuss issues with respect. Calling for a thread to be deleted is playing into the hands of extremism

@pillofy

The violence last night in Southport was disgusting. But it was also inevitable. Plus, people strongly suspect they aren't being told the truth about certain things, and reactions are being carefully managed. Again, that's going to provoke problems.

What has any of this got to do with a murder spree having been committed by a British citizen?

What are people “not being told the truth” about? The perpetrator’s identity is being obscured because he is underage. There’s no conspiracy about this, all we know is that he is 17. Under British law perpetrators of crimes who are underage can’t be identified by the media until a judge deems it to be in the public interest. This is likely to happen in due course because of the public interest but you know very well why it’s not in the public domain for now.

All we know is that this individual was born in the UK, grew up in Wales and was of Rwandan heritage. He has been here for his lifetime.

Are you saying the fact that his parents migrated here 17 or more years ago is the most material point here? What evidence do you have for this?

If you applied that logic in the case of another horrendous child killing, the James Bulger case, you would be saying that the fact that the killers’ families were from the UK was the most important factor.

Is that what you’re saying? There’s a total lack of consistency and logic to your argument.

Unless you jump to the fact that what you’re actually saying is that this is inevitable because he is black.

Well if he is, then I wish the police would hurry up and say so.

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 31/07/2024 10:45

If you are really interested in the grooming gangs I suggest you read the Jay report. LadyCrumpet.
It is a detailed investigation into what happened with a large number of men who systematically abused vulnerable girls in Rotherham. There is no conspiracy or cover up, the reason it happened and abuse of girls and women still happens is patriarchy. It s not a simple answer with a simple solution.
I was angered and sickened when I read it, and despite being old and hardened by my job I couldn't finish reading the case studies as it was so upsetting.
Professor Jay who researched and wrote the report is literally in my opinion super human, I have no idea how she did it. And she says clearly in the report no one knows the ethnicity of those involved because the police didn't ask their origin, these were the abusers stopped by police with the children in their cars. Clearly as previous posters have pointed out the one thing we do know is 100% true of the abusers is that they are men.

CantDealwithChristmas · 31/07/2024 10:45

Gettingbysomehow · 31/07/2024 10:32

Its nothing less than a lynching.
We still dont know why the killer did what he did, we dont know what religion he is, whether he,s insane, nothing.

Well his real identity has been out online since last night because someone started circulating coverage in the local paper from a few years ago. I think the horrible yobs and vile hooligans who were rioting last night probably used that as a pretext. That plus the guy who turned up to the vigil with a machete, fortunately he was quickly arrested, but that's what got the mob there. It was horrible. A peaceful vigil up to that point. What the hell was the guy with the machete planning???

Shakeoffyourchains · 31/07/2024 10:45

pillofy · 31/07/2024 10:12

It's not the Spanish, Polish, Jews or Hindus running around with machetes, blowing up kids at pop concerts or stabbing passersby, is it?

There is a pattern and people can see it. If you can't discuss the problem, how can it ever be solved?

Maybe some demographics are more prone to mental health issues. Maybe there are cultural issues. I don't know. But we're not going to find out and fix things by yelling 'racist!' at people who want to ask questions.

This dogged refusal to face facts is now starting to lead to real, ugly social unrest.

The violence last night in Southport was disgusting. But it was also inevitable. Plus, people strongly suspect they aren't being told the truth about certain things, and reactions are being carefully managed. Again, that's going to provoke problems.

Lucy Letby, Ian Huntley, Ian Brady, Myra Hindley, Fred and Rose West, Derek Bird, Dale Cregan, Peter Sutcliffe, Harold Shipman, Thomas Cashman, Henry Long, Wayne Couzens, Anthony Burns, Louise Porton, Stephen Hardy, Cliff Mitchell, Katie Tidmarsh, etc, etc.

It's not the Spanish, Muslims, Jews or Hindus running around murdering and raping is it?

There's a pattern and people can see it.......

Or maybe, just maybe, race/religion are immaterial and some people, from all walks of life, are just monsters.

SerafinasGoose · 31/07/2024 09:11

Three children have been murdered.

This is not the time or the place for a discussion about racism. It's also (yet again) a clear demonstration of the sheer ignorance and stupidity of the EDL/far right thugs. Firstly, capitalizing on someone else's tragedy to fuel their agenda is unlikely to win them many friends or influence people. Secondly, they are targeting the emergency services and first responders who were lauded only hours ago for the work they did to help the victims. And thirdly, as has frequently been pointed out, the suspect's parents came here from Rwanda, a Christian country that only has about a 2% Muslim demographic.

Do we see them attacking churches in retribution? Of course not. Because they're ignorant, myopic and completely lacking in emotional intelligence or intellectual capacity. Islamophobia and racism are not the intelligent response. Nor is exploiting a horrific tragedy involving innocent children to make a point which is barely, if at all, connected to that tragedy.

The question as to why successive governments have (strategically and deliberately) failed to address public concerns about immigration is one for another thread. The easy, short answer is because it doesn't suit them and they have their own reasons for this.

The rioters are ignorant, racist thugs. Not sorry.

Anyone can have any any discussion any any time they want. No random person on the internet gets to decide who can say what, when.

Sorry I wasn't talking about asylum seekers, I was replying to the person blaming politicians for immigration.

But you are right about asylum seekers, they are not allowed to work so we don't know if they would if they could.

Elopelo · 31/07/2024 10:49

It really doesn’t take long for the classic anti- Muslim venom to be projectile vomited out by some posters…

Immigration is not a problem unless you’re Muslim it seems- blonde hair blue eyed Ukrainian? Most welcome- we support you, our governments will give you billions to fight the Russians, we will open up our homes for you and guess what the government will even pay us for doing so!

Muslim from Gaza/Iraq/Afghanistan? (countries where historical and current British/Western foreign policy has basically destroyed any hope of normality there)- sorry not interested, you’re all evil, your religion is evil, you hate women, you’re all mass murderers, you all deserve to be hated and it’s understandable why you’re the rioters number one target.

This is total hypocrisy. But humans have always had a tendency to be hypocritical. The fact that posters are trying to defend this in their faux sincere posts is what’s really alarming.

I love this country and have always seen myself as a British Muslim and not from the Muslim counties my parents come from- but it seems more and more everyday that I’m not welcome in my home anymore.

AvarusNothi · 31/07/2024 10:55

The EDL are nothing but the football hooligans of old - looking for any reason to descend into violence and agression.

They are violent, angry and stupid and that is never a good combination.

Last night has sod all to do with the awful attack on children, nothing at all to do with immigration and everything to do with the kind of dickhead men that believe the world is their fucking punch bag.

limegreenheart · 31/07/2024 10:58

Ask why, despite repeated warnings, the corrupt politicians in this country have failed and refused to do anything about the rapid change in people’s surroundings, neighbourhoods, cultural experiences and assimilation impact.

"People" demanded that the UK leave the EU in order to address these issues. The UK has now left not only the EU but the ESM, and took extra steps to isolate itself completely unnecessarily. It's been almost five years. So I don't think "man on the street" critiques of immigration policy have led us in the right direction.

The "man on the street" in any random UK city, if he's an EDL leader or supporter, does NOT have better policy prescriptions than the government nor does he have better intentions than the government (and that's not an endorsement of any recent UK government - they haven't done a great job either). Rioting to get what you want should not be normalised. It doesn't help embattled communities or the victims of crime, and no reasonable person wants a society where the government caves in to threats of (or actual) political violence.

While racism is obviously unacceptable, if its repeatedly people of one particular religion who are by and large the main perpetratos of these types of attacks, is it not reasonable to start a conversation around it?

How do you know the religion of the murderer?

Where did I say I knew the religion of this particular murderer?
