Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

1000 replies

Bex5490 · 30/07/2024 22:18

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

Doesn't matter what colour he is or where he was born or the racists that started rioting there... the common theme I'm seeing is that they are males commiting violence.

We have a male violence epidemic, it's everywhere and I'm sick of it.

Agreed

The problem is none of the above concern is aimed at white migrants. Let’s be honest, it’s Muslims that people have a problem with. When you start targeting a specific group of people that is when it becomes dangerous, as you can see with these “riots” (thugs). People are becoming more and more comfortable spouting their racist views (it is racism, regardless of how you try to gloss over it) due to populism. It is fine to have a conversation about immigration, I don’t disagree with you on that. It is not fine to be prejudice towards one particular religion.

Beth216 · 31/07/2024 09:57

The EDF are a disgusting bunch of racist men who just enjoy destroying other people's things. They are just a vile mob.

I absolutely agree with you. To be honest, I'm feeling quite frightened by the anti-Muslim feelings that are being so blatantly spouted by people these days. Recently it's started spilling over into violence. As far as we know the Rwandan man was not even a Muslim yet Mosques are being targeted.
I think the right wing media is deliberately stirring up hatred along with many others on social media such as Lawrence Fox, Tommy Robinson. There is a huge negative focus on Muslims and never any positive reporting.
I'm white British but live in an area with many Muslims. What I see in the Muslims I know is just a million miles away from what I read in the press and on social media. I can imagine that if I didn't know any Muslims I might start to believe some of the rubbish I read simply because it's so wide spread.
I just can't imagine how Muslims who live here are feeling - seeing such vitriol and violence spouted towards them every single day. It's very sad and pretty scary.

LaeralSilverhand · 31/07/2024 10:03

The rioters have abused an elderly couple who protested having their garden wall torn down for missiles to throw at the police. They have set fire to residents’ cars and looted shops. That’s how these people are ‘defending’ the country they profess to love so much.

Lilysgoneshopping · 31/07/2024 10:03

People have just had enough. Last week rioting in Leeds over a child safeguarding issue. Where the hell were the riot squad?
No charges being brought against those who attacked and injured police at Manxhester airport. Why, does the law not apply to skme people?
3 little girls murdered in Southport. Regardless of race or religion of the perpetrator. Man arrested for bringing a knife to the vigil. Why?
We have been silenced for long enough.
Time for change now

Feeling heart broken or outraged won’t help.

We need to ask why. Because all of these events have a greater propensity to turn into a protest against mass migration. Irrespective of whether the issue is immigration related or not, this is what is in danger of happening.

You can shout racist and dismiss the people doing it. But it doesn’t make the problem go away. This is how far right movements take hold. Do not sweep this under the carpet by calling people names. Ask why, despite repeated warnings, the corrupt politicians in this country have failed and refused to do anything about the rapid change in people’s surroundings, neighbourhoods, cultural experiences and assimilation impact.

There is nothing racist about calling this out. Burying your head in the sand and namecalling is utter stupidity and makes the problem worse.

The reason that we have mass immigration after we left the EU is because there are too many people on benefits who don't want to or can't work.

The politicians don't want immigration because they know the issues it causes.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/07/2024 10:10

Man arrested for bringing a knife to the vigil. Why?

What?Confused Don't you want the police to be vigilant against knife crime? Isn't that one of the main 'somethings that need to be done'?

pillofy · 31/07/2024 10:12

It's not the Spanish, Polish, Jews or Hindus running around with machetes, blowing up kids at pop concerts or stabbing passersby, is it?

There is a pattern and people can see it. If you can't discuss the problem, how can it ever be solved?

Maybe some demographics are more prone to mental health issues. Maybe there are cultural issues. I don't know. But we're not going to find out and fix things by yelling 'racist!' at people who want to ask questions.

This dogged refusal to face facts is now starting to lead to real, ugly social unrest.

The violence last night in Southport was disgusting. But it was also inevitable. Plus, people strongly suspect they aren't being told the truth about certain things, and reactions are being carefully managed. Again, that's going to provoke problems.

This has been going on for years, not just since brexit.

So the people who have 'had enough' are fine to go out rioting. looting and destroying peoples property after being whipped up by false allegations on SM?

Is that what you mean?

I don't think the people rioting in Leeds were attacking or threatening a completely unconnected group of people.

AFAIK, the men who attacked the police officers in Manchester have been charged and are currently on bail.

People seem to think they have the right to instantly know what is going on even when the police/authorities themselves aren't sure. A lot of information isn't made public for a variety of reasons. Even when it is, some people obviously don't pay any attention and go on what they read on X.

Last night's events were totally disgraceful. There is no excuse at all.

Flibflobflibflob · 31/07/2024 10:17

The last thing anyone needs is shit and burn marks all over their streets. There would have been families with children having to put up with all of it.

I loathe rioters, selfish selfish people.

Absolutely this. While I strongly condemn the rioting and mindless thuggery and racism, the government do need to start looking at the things you've mentioned.

Here we go. A sixth form Marxist rant to explain a complex issue.

Why are you calling for a “reasoned debate” and then insulting and belittling anyone who disagrees with you?

PandoraSox · 31/07/2024 10:25

There are a lot of far right accounts on Twitter pushing the narrative that the Manchester airport thugs are not facing criminal charges. I am guessing @Lilysgoneshopping has perhaps been been misinformed by those accounts? Because I am sure they wouldn't come on MN to spread far right lies.

So a bunch of drunk and violent middle aged white men attacking the police is an understandable backlash to the events you have mentioned is it?

'we are sick of the police and kids being attacked so let's try and kill some police'

Everyone knows this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

Three children have been murdered.

This is not the time or the place for a discussion about racism. It's also (yet again) a clear demonstration of the sheer ignorance and stupidity of the EDL/far right thugs. Firstly, capitalizing on someone else's tragedy to fuel their agenda is unlikely to win them many friends or influence people. Secondly, they are targeting the emergency services and first responders who were lauded only hours ago for the work they did to help the victims. And thirdly, as has frequently been pointed out, the suspect's parents came here from Rwanda, a Christian country that only has about a 2% Muslim demographic.

Do we see them attacking churches in retribution? Of course not. Because they're ignorant, myopic and completely lacking in emotional intelligence or intellectual capacity. Islamophobia and racism are not the intelligent response. Nor is exploiting a horrific tragedy involving innocent children to make a point which is barely, if at all, connected to that tragedy.

The question as to why successive governments have (strategically and deliberately) failed to address public concerns about immigration is one for another thread. The easy, short answer is because it doesn't suit them and they have their own reasons for this.

The rioters are ignorant, racist thugs. Not sorry.

Amen!

I would argue that all religion is misogynistic in nature,
so your argument does not hold up.

Its nothing less than a lynching.
We still dont know why the killer did what he did, we dont know what religion he is, whether he,s insane, nothing.
