Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

Who has been silenced for long enough?
It is definitely not those vile racist thugs marauding around in Southport , causing distress to innocent people living in the area.
The racists are so stupid that they fail to see the irony in their disgusting behaviour. They accuse immigrants, Muslims of being violent ,but then go on a rampage destroying police vans and attacking mosques.

All we really know for sure is that the perpetrator of the attacks in Southport is 17 and was born in Wales. It is thought that his parents were from Rwanda, a predominately Christian country where 2% of the population are Muslim. We know nothing about his motivations or his mental health so far.

So what "ideology" are you talking about?

The vast majority of terrorism-related deaths (well over 3000) in the UK have been as a result of the actions of Catholics. Would it be reasonable to 'start a conversation' about the Catholic religion, as you so put it?

But it isn’t repeatedly one religion, that is the issue. Hate and violent crime occur daily, committed not only by Muslims. If we are discussing terror offences they are committed by extreme radicals, they don’t represent the majority of Muslims. In the same way serial killers who propose to be Christians don’t represent the majority of Christians.

If anything we need to switch the dialogue completely and instead of focusing purely on religion start discussing why men commit such violent acts. It is always men.

Also, they haven’t confirmed whether the Southport perpetrator is Muslim. The thugs are just assuming he is.

This inquiry is long long long overdue.

I would really like to see those convicted of rioting having to pay for the clean up. We should have some way of putting leans against these people’s properties and assets. They not stop unless it causes them financial pain. It’s the only thing that works.

Their faces and names should be widely publicised.

After two days of the most horrendous news this genuinely made me laugh out loud so thanks for sharing. It could almost have me believing in karma.

Anti Muslim/ Asian etc. is certainly cycle du jour.

But before that was anti Eastern Europe legal EU immigration. It’s not always ‘non whites’ that the far right have kicked off about. Which wasn’t the reason necessarily for the anti immigration brexit part of the vote - by that point farage had pictures of mass immigration ques across Europe (of mainly non white people). But it certainly ‘set the stage’ for anti immigration sentiment so to speak.

And I don’t think that people saying they ‘understand’ how it happened mean they are defending it. We need to understand how and why it’s happening to be able to stop it happening.

Funny enough I didn’t take a missile to the head yesterday as I wasn’t antagonising riot police in Southport. These ‘English’ men are always the worst bloody example of the stereotype. I’d rather send them off in the dinghies and take my chances with the migrants on their way over.

I suspect this will result in the EDL being put on to the banned list and Tommy Robinson will soon be HMP Belmarsh's newest guest. He's already got a warrant out for his arrest and seems to have done a runner on the Eurostar - not sure why there wasn't a marker on him to stop him at the border but he does have two (at least) passports so maybe they screwed up.

Muslims are the current favourite target of the far Right but it has been and could be again Sikhs/Hindus/anyone black/Eastern European/Jewish (not an exhaustive list)

Basically, anyone who doesn't conform to their narrow, blinkered definition of "white Britishness" and provides the excuse to hate and riot. This stuff is not new and has not just been going on since 9/11.

What religion?

We don’t know for sure what religion (if any) this person followed. On the balance of probability based on what we know of his heritage he is most likely to have been Christian. Are you therefore saying it’s usually Christians who commit these types of attacks?

Like most of the other people rushing to judgment and stirred up by bigotry you don’t know what you’re talking about do you?

On the plus side - Southport residents are responding admirably with people turning up to help clear the mess and make good the mosque - including free work from specialist tradesmen such as window replacement.

That's how you build a community and a future country to be proud of.

Sorry I can't quote your post but you're spot on. There's no sign here (or at 99% of other protests of this nature) of any women. At what point do the men stop and wonder why the women aren't there and is there a possibility that the protesters are wrong?
