Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

Bex5490 · 30/07/2024 22:18

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

"So in terms of directing anger, why on earth are people seemingly more annoyed with the protestors than the murderer?"

Lazy thinking.

I can be appalled by the atrocity.

And refuse to accept that rioting is the right response.

Literally what I just said then?

LarkLane · 02/08/2024 00:30

Thanks Errol. Can't read your link it won't let me see what is written.. To clarify, I wasn't claiming they were random people. It was an organised bussing in of various extreme groups. We know exactly who they were and what their agenda was and it wasn't to support local people.

Mothlike · 02/08/2024 00:30

Starting fires, arson, carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. Like murder. It’s a serious crime in England and Wales.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/08/2024 00:31

So in terms of directing anger, why on earth are people seemingly more annoyed with the protestors than the murderer?

People are all appalled by what the murderer did. But we don't yet know why anyone would do anything so incomprehensible awful, so there's not really that much to meaningfully discuss at their point in relation to him.

The 'protesters' otoh are all too comprehensible, that's something that we can engage with.

What would you prefer? Take him out behind the bike shed? Capital punishment? Is burning down the shop of a Sikh shopkeeper achieving that?
He most certainly won't be let out in ten years.

So because of this (which is doubtful) should we be okay with our houses, shops etc being smashed to pieces? I don’t see the correlation.

Edited

As I said, I don't agree with buildings being smashed and burned. But direct your anger at the right place.

Lentilweaver · 02/08/2024 00:41

I dont see what anger directed against the murderer can do. On the other hand, tough anti rioting measures will stop more mosques being burnt. Unless of course people want to see mosques burnt.

LarkLane · 02/08/2024 00:42

We have a s.60 order in place here now due to these thugs coming into our town.
"Community Inspector Doug Chadwick said: “Section 60 orders are an effective tool in our efforts to protect the public from the violence and destruction the town saw on Tuesday, allowing us to stop and search people suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality"

mommatoone · 02/08/2024 00:42

I'm not condoing the riots that happened in Southport . Far from it. But, these thugs caused havoc the other night. Didn't see them outside court today when the murderer of these children turned up? No protests then?

Yes, can’t think why men behaving violently and erratically is unnerving and threatening can you?

shuggles · 02/08/2024 00:43

@Lentilweaver I dont see what anger directed against the murderer can do.

And what about the millions of other degenerates, delinquents, and "thug-life" scumbags across the country?

Lentilweaver · 02/08/2024 00:45

What about them? What would you like me to do about them precisely?

ErrolTheDragon · 02/08/2024 00:46

But direct your anger at the right place.

We can multitask at that. Stop pretending that people who are upset about mobs disgracefully hijacking a tragic event for a very nasty purpose are the ones who don't care about those poor little girls.Hmm

Lol @ thug life…

Whatever could you possibly mean?

Is thug life a new racist word for (dare I say it?) black?

Well yes, I think you're right that you wouldn't be able to do anything.

Imagine searching for racism in a comment that contained no racism, and then being more outraged by non-existent racism than 3 dead girls.

Bex5490 · 02/08/2024 00:53

@shuggles

I’m so confused. Our anger is directed wrongly towards the ‘protesters’ because it should be focused on the murderer.

But it’s okay for it to be on random thugs as long as they’re not the protesting type (I’m assuming you mean brown thugs instead of white ones) that have no relation to the events in Southport?

OP posts:
Bex5490 · 02/08/2024 00:53

Then who are the thug-life scumbags?

There has been a huge outpouring of grief and anger in relation to the attack, including on Mumsnet (although various of those threads were deleted, largely due to a multitude of posters - some longstanding mumsnet users, some probable trolls posting far-right-originating disinformation).

This is the sole thread (so far as I have seen) relating specifically to the riots and, obviously given the title and context of the thread, it is going to contain people's thoughts on the riots.

I can't see any good reason for a decent-minded person to question the anger being directed at the violent thugs committing racially-motivated violence (based on racist lies) across the country, particularly in a thread about that specific topic.

It feels like an attempt to excuse or brush off violent racism and certainly adds nothing of value to the conversation.

Well, I think we've found the issue here. It's people who are not concerned about societal problems, and instead prefer to create fake racism inside their heads.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/08/2024 00:59

Quite so, @WildLemur

Well , this is why these threads keep getting deleted. Once someone offers a difference of opinion on this matter, all hell breaks loose!.

Some of us are the families and friends of these children and adults. I can't begin to describe how we feel about the person who has killed and maimed our loved ones. One of the first persons to go to help and face the attacker was a man of colour.

Grief doesn't stop us being angry about those who turned up the following evening to smash up our town and frighten a neighbourhood already traumatised.

And it makes me more angry when I see idiot posts claiming that these thugs turned up on the back of a peaceful vigil to " protest" in a vile exhibition that terrified local children and adults even further.
